I get what he is saying, i tend to feel that way, there's certain albums that are so grandiose and amazing that you just have to pay attention if you play them. What he may feel with this record is that it is a bit easier to just play and "casually" listen to it.

This entire album shows a huge evolution in HANL's voice, in my opinion. It seems it's only gotten better and better from Deathconsciousness, to Giles Corey, and The Unnatural World. Burial Society is easily my favorite song, personally, but whereas you highlight on the sound I feel that the lyrics play an important role. The spacey guitar seems to emphasize the lyrics in a rhythmic, steady wave of awesomeness beyond the peak. I see the vocal noises he makes around 4m as being somewhat bold and experimental and maybe even nonchalant. But they certainly don't ruin the song. I think this experimental nature is reiterated by the trailing reverb towards the end.

  • @rebreb1714

I was a bit skeptical at first of this album. For one, there is a trend in rock music to throw as much reverb on the track and it creates a huge wall of separation. Unfortunately, most bands don't have songs that are worth the attention to parse through it all. But upon second listen of this album the songs became clear and I love them now. Occasionally, I think they get a little to close to bands like Joy Division, Tears for Fears etc but there unique recording style and production techniques coupled with an understated ability to write memorable melodies and lyrics is what really separates them from the pack. I think the needledrop's rating is perfectly fair.

I went into this knowing that it wouldn't be the monster that Deathconsciousness is so, while yeah I would have like another hour of material, I wasn't super disappointed with it's length. But I mean other than that I'm really really enjoying this album. I was surprised that, at least to me, it lives up to Deathconsciousness. I would have never guessed that going into that album. Hopefully it wont be another 6-7 years between albums this time. Also, maybe review the new Alcest record.
