+Channel Orange (Orangelovin) so true. I freaks me out when the music I used to hate now is so precious. sounds like your parents are still alive. I am now 55 and both of mine gone. I feel like a orphan. call them every day to tell them you love them my fav is time in new England. it constantly surprises me that a song that was wriiten in the sixities are getting so many hit on u tube
Sad thing is, their sensibility is the reason that Barry’s music has always been laughed at and made fun of! lol. I’ve always loved his music but I’m afraid to tell anyone because when i have before, people roll their eyes and smile. lol
In hindsight it's the perspective of the narrator that makes song so unique. "Made it" isn't really about sticking it out - but being strong enough to stay away from one another. But the resolve is crumbling fast due to a chance encounter. Such a story told in so few words.
I always wanted to see Barry live🌹 as I was a concert buff in my early twenties. However it was always impossible as either I tried to get tickets too late or the prices were too high. However I listened to all of his music throughout the years and I just love the songs he writes. From nights in New England to looks like we made it to even now all of them is something each and every one of us can relate to because we all have one thing in common 💔 A heart that can get hurt. He captures those emotions writes them down adds music to it and bingo We are all connected. Thank you Barry for the lonely nights and days that if I hadn't been listening to your music I would have cried just a few more extra tears. You made me realize that we all have to hurt sometimes in life 💔💔
Hello I really do appreciate you for being a big fan thank you for your wonderful comments on my post it really means a lot to me.I sincerely hope you never stop listening to my music…..😊😊😊❤
Ooooh, "Weekend in New England" is my favorite of Barry's. But many more always resonated deep inside me from my teen years to now at 62. ☺️💗🙋🏻♀️ And I guess it'll always be this way ! I write my own songs and I appreciate his beautiful talent and tender love songs when the world sometimes seems a bit cold. ❤️🔥🤗😍
I grew up listening to these songs my mam loved him and these were her housework tune !! engrained in my mind and only as i got older i got the meaning to the tunes lol
I always loved this song. I loved its adult complexity. Which is interesting because I was a teenager the year of its release and like a lot of kids generally preferred the R&B, Rock and Pop of the day. Though I liked him, I felt Barry Manilow was a performer out of his time; his kind of songwriting seemed to belong to another era. Though the seventies, his most prolific and popular period, yielded a lot of hits, he was not taken very seriously by many critics of the day. They tended to dismiss his art as schmaltz. There was also, I think, a veiled homophobia in some of the nastiest of the criticism--the industry knew full well Manilow was gay even if (most of) his audience didn't then. As for who he was writing about here... who can ever know for sure. Like other tunesmiths before (and after) him it's possible Manilow was writing to and about the men in his life but knew he had to hetero-sexualize his lyrics to protect his career. He could also have been channeling someone else's experience--I remember an article years ago where Joni Mitchell scolded some of her critics for presuming that every love song she wrote was about the latest man in her life. Some of her songs, she explained, chronicled the emotional ups and downs of her friends. Anyway, great tune. Thanks for sharing.
@@MrLBDude "That vibe"? Seriously? To be clear, I don't "think" Barry Manilow is gay--he is. In 2014 Mr. Manilow married his longtime partner and manager, TV executive Garry Kief, in a secret ceremony. The news of the marriage came out in 2015 and Manilow subsequently decided to come forward, giving more frank and in-depth interviews about his life in 2017--you can still find online CNN and Huffington Post reports from April 2017 as well as a May 10, 2017 People Magazine interview where he explains he kept his real life a secret for fear the truth would disappoint his many female fans--and end his career. I believe there's also a July 8 2020 UA-cam SiriusXM clip where he talks about the challenges--especially in the earlier years--of being gay and in the spotlight. Really, the only way you could not know about this is if you simply don't want to know--the information is out there.
Still remember the chorus part of this song was my 8th grade graduation theme song. When I closed my eyes, it took me back on that day & actually brought some tears with it too.
Thats why while watching him singing or listening to his song you can feel the sadness hidden to himself but if you are a sensitive person you read him nd the way he sings nd moves ..it cant lie.😎😍

I love this song. Don't hear it often. Barry Manilow's big hit. Great. You did a great job Barry. I remember this song on a Chevy commercial back in 2012. I don't hear this often on the radio or anywhere else. But it was a big hit song in the late 70's. Great song.
Modulation is so much Barry's trademark that I expect it in every song he does. LOL Near the end of almost every song, he changes up the key. But, he always does it in an expert way! And I've never heard a song of his so far that I didn't like at least a little bit. But then, I AM a big sentimental sap. LOL

This song makes me cry for hours! I can't listen to the song without weeping uncontrollably . It's the same with many of his songs.
Very heartfelt words in all his songs. Love it.
Especially you’re there

This reminds me of my boyfriend Emmett I love him so much
Do you know how to play this song on the piano?
Barry Manilow. Real music that touches the soul. Thank God for him.
Same feeling👍. Thanks God

A very sad song for those who left their relationship to another relationship .beautiful song frm barry manilow 👏👏👏

After announcing at age 73 that he was a practitioner of same sex sexuality, it gives a stranger and grosser meaning to the song.
