I've seen Gordon Lightfoot a few times starting in 2013. He's one of the best singers/songwriters I've ever heard. I wish I could have been alive around this time when his voice was in prime shape. Thank you for this glimpse into that experience.
Besides the inherent greatness of this post, I just love the haunting pedal steel work of Pee Wee Charles. It's interesting, both the sound quality of the recording and Pee Wee's wailful steel playing give this music an almost dreamlike quality for me, and in an ethereal way it brings me back to those days when I was a young man. A cry, a call from the past, so to speak. Thanks so much for making this available.
Rationallogo i chatted with pee wee in 86 i asked him why he had been toning down the steel. he told me gord told him to. mistake i said. then i tried to tell gord but he wouldnt listen. he wanted to talk about his upcomming canoo expedition. man i wish i could have gone on that trip.
Cool story, Patrick. Thanks for sharing. You have validated my thought all these years that other than on "The Fitz", Pee Wee's playing was never really showcased. Still sounded great, though!
I was far too young to attend this in 1975 and so it just puts a deliriously crazy smile on my face to listen in now almost like I’m doing something I shouldn’t be doing. What a kick it would have been to be at this show so thanks for sharing it. Thanks for the music, Gordon.
Yes you are correct. I loved it when Dylan inducted Gord into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in Toronto in 1986. Bob Dylan and Gordon Lightfoot are some of the best songwriters in the history of music.
This would have been so amazing to see. I always loved Gordon’s music but never got to see him in person. I have been so lucky to see Bob Dylan two times. I can visualize them in mind though. 💜💜
Man, I was THERE. 'Obstructed view' seats right behind the stage. Close to everything ( Ramblin Jack Elliot roping chair cowboy-style backstage). Fantastic.thanks for posting this.
Were you sitting by the guy that threw up? I swear it was green. There were so many greats there that night. Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell. Love to go back again...even if it means getting green barf on my shoes.lol
Love the photo. That was the same night Joni was singing "Coyote" with R. McGuinn and B.Dylan and GL was wandering around in the background. I wonder if there is any other video from that night????
Lucky to have any recording of this great show that I was very fortunate to attend. Seeing Dylan put his arm around him and show his love in front of his hometown was unforgettable. Concert of a lifetime!
Dylan pretty much adores Lightfoot's talent, and it's mutual.

Thanks for the music, Gordon.
I was there that night. I was 27 years old at the time. The whole concert was just amazing!
I always admired the mutual respect between these two great artists.
Thank you for sharing this! 💜💜

Shame none of Gords performance was in the Netflix doc!
I've always liked watchman's gone, a lot of charming pathos
Great set!

History
rip Lightfoot.
Sounds like he is using a 6 string on “Race Among the Ruins”. Maybe the Dove in the Pic? Either that or the recording isn’t that great.
great version of the Watchman with PeeWee
One can sing while the other can’t.
Crappy sound, why even put this on UA-cam.
Because its history, dork !
