- In August 2012 we were lucky enough to have Tommy Emmanuel perform here at the Australian Institute of Music (AIM). He also brought 2 very special guests Frank Vignola and Vinny Raniolo from New York.
Here Tommy and Frank perform a great medley including "Here, There and Everywhere", by the Beatles and Django Reinhardt's Nuages.

Emmanuel's unique style - he calls it simply "finger style" - is akin to playing a guitar the way a pianist plays a piano. While Tommy has many imitators, few approach his mastery. He even has his own annual guitar festivals, "Tommy Fest," in Newport News, Virginia, Louisville, KY and Dortmund, Germany.
Jazz legend Chet Atkins was one of the first people who inspired Emmanuel to pick up a guitar. Decades later, Atkins himself became one of Emmanuel's biggest fans, and is responsible for declaring Emmanuel a "Certified Guitar Player" - an honour shared by only two other people in the world (Jerry Reed and John Knowles). "I think he's probably the greatest finger-picker in the world today," Atkins said a few months prior to his death in 2001. "He's inventive, fearless and has a flawless sense of rhythm. You can't watch Tommy perform and not feel happy."
"I've spent my whole life from the age of 4 playing music and entertaining people. I never wanted to do anything else," says Emmanuel. "Playing the guitar is much more than a career for me. It's a passion ... my life. The best thing in the world is to make people happy and bring them together through my music. Because I'm touring so much these days, the whole world has become my home."
In his storied career, the Grammy-nominated Emmanuel has set sales records that have yet to be broken and performed alongside hundreds of other musical legends including Chet Atkins, EricClapton, Sir George Martin, Hank Marvin and Joe Walsh. Olivia Newton-John, Al Jarreau and Sheena Easton have also recorded songs written by Emmanuel.
The consummate musician was voted Rolling Stone (Australia) Magazine's "Most Popular Guitarist" for two consecutive years and has earned four Platinum and three Gold albums. When his album "Dare to be Different" went Platinum, it was the first instrumental album to do so in Australia in more than 25 years and has not been topped since its release.
In Australia, Emmanuel's music and life are legendary. He began playing guitar at age 4, learning to play by ear without any formal instruction. Emmanuel and his brother Phil were child prodigies, starting their professional career in the 1960s when Phil was just 7-years-old and Tommy a mere 4. The Emmanuel Quartet, The Midget Safaries and The Trailblazers (with siblings Chris on drums and Virginia on slide guitar) are now part of Australian musical history. Emmanuel toured the Outback with his family, playing for audiences across the vast continent. He and his siblings worked hard to create the family's sole income for several years. Check out more info on Tommy on his website.
Tommy brings an unabashed joy to playing guitar, whether solo, in a duet or combo. The mutual admiration between him and Frank is a joy to behold.
Sweet harmonies and superb skills by both. And as always, amazed at the melodic quality of McCartney's songs.
The thing i love the most in those amazing musicians is how they get so much joy by playing music...
We need more collaborations between these two magical musicians.
Beautiful arrangement. “Here, there and everywhere” might be the most underrated Beatles song
Mr Emmanuel you are a friend of mankind! Keep it coming our way!
Frank is a true master, who deserve way more recognition.
With a stunning Django-approved tone.
Amen. An amazing talent and a real gentleman.
All the great artists blend in with Tommy. There is no other way for them.
Beauty is not just what the eye can behold but very much what the ear can hear. This is just plain simple listening beauty. Love it - you guys are Gods gift to His world of beauty.
A duet of utter perfection in every way, Anyone who could a thumbs down to this must be totally tone def !!

Tommy and Frank put such Beauty to "Here There and Everywhere " !
wow I need to practice more. I love their sense of timing and knowing where the other person is at all times
It's a wonderful gift you both Tommy and Frank has presented us. Thank you very much.
I saw Tommy and Frank on stage together last week. Truly amazing guitarists. Closest thing to a religious experience that I've ever had.
GawdOfThunder cool

FANTASTICO... GRAZIE UA-cam...!
Cette version de Nuages est une beauté à l'état pure. Une entente magistrale entre ces deux immenses musiciens. Django aurait été tellement fier !
Just...wow. I have no other words.
Would love a Tommy/George benson thing like this with George’s vocals...heaven
Here there and everywhere was the most beautiful thing I've ever heard EVER! there I've said it.
I'm absolutely, most assured, beyond all doubt etc.,etc., that Django would approve.
Absolute perfection...
Woww both TE & FV so excellent
Duas feras 👏👏👏👏
Just absolute magic from these two great players. Tommy always brings a smile to my face and his playing with Frank is just the perfect fit.
A big thank you on behalf of my ears & spirit.
Beautiful playing!
These guys work great together!!!!
Just heaven to listen to those two gods of the guitar
Noël Kelleher ii
Two craftsmen at work - feel, tone and timing are faultless.
Amen!
Magnificent
I always love listening to these two
The genius of this is that two very different guitars can be made to sound exactly the same or, completely different, at whim.
WOW.. What a Show.
Томми уже дедушка,но такой живчик с ужимками и гримасами,как волшебник дарит нам наслаждение прекрасной музыкой!
hearttouching ... two masters at work
breath taking sounds
wonderful!
As usual for Tommy, absolutely great guit work...
Lovely. Can't get ebough.
I really think Frank V. is a great artist, able to blend with so many others including Tommy E. and Joscho S. He is coming to CA soon and I plan to go to see him even though he might not play Chet Atkins style.
Minimus self-affection, maximum music
Che brividi!
Ik ga er naartoe: Nieuwe Luxor Rotterdam 30 september 2016, Joepie........
Genioooooo
Perfection . . . with NO cracks ! If guitar playing was a "gloss" their SOUND would be Blinding . . . WHAT ?
beautiful .......what is the songs name this two greatest artists playing
The Beatles song is 'Here, There and Everywhere'.
@@lupcokotevski2907 thank u
I see tommy play with other people and it doesn't work out so well but these 2 gel so good together.
yeah, for sure it doesn't always work out for another great guitarist to duet with Tommy I mean, Frank's a renown jazz player, whereas Tommy is something very different, something I believe the world's never seen before. I see his references far more from pop music of his era, Beatles, whatnot, just beautiful music to him, but he's definitely not a jazz player, he';s a different thing all together. I know they lump him in the finger style guitarist category, but that's people needing to categorize everything]. He's just this magnificent original
I've never seen a guitar master who so obviously loves what he does more than Tommy. There is pure joy in every note picked, every chord played. The man was born to play guitar. I never tire of watching him play.
waht a melody~!
This is muy likeable
agree!!
Vriendelijke groet, Lex
Wow! x3
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Anybody know who built Frank's guitar? Looks a bit like Linda Manzer's stuff, but it's hard to say. He plays this one almost exclusively now, or it seems, and I like that - it's what makes a great, awesome guitar: play the holy sh*t out of it.
Can you feel it???
Can't forget Les....he was monster too
Guitarmony!
Does anybody know the guitar which Frank plays?
Nyyydelig - Beatyfuuuuul
sweeter than sugar
What model is Frank using? I love the way it sounds.
+Farid M Its one he got made for him by Ryan Thorell, you can get them but they are slightly different and about 7 grand
David Murray Ah alright. Thank you for your answer. :D
+Farid M it's not about the instrument, it's the artist
+Георгий Левинсон Naw, he's just got one of them fast guitars!
(smiles)
What's the name of the first song? :)
Here, There and Everywhere
They are so in sync
I guess I got to smash another guitar tonight.
SHOULD HAVE DONE A BOBBY MEDLEY !
Да....
Here, There & Everywhere is one of the Beatles most beautiful songs and it was played with such feeling and respect. These are two guitarists who go together well.
Tommy and Frank are amazing. It's like they've played together all their lives they are so in sync. Love it. Not just here.
Emmanuel brings such joy and brilliance to his playing. He makes me smile just to witness his love for his instrument and music.
This is food for the soul. I love it when Tommy plays ballads downtempo . Here There and Everywhere has a melody that is beyond sublime , and Tommy did it justice . Frank shined on the ode to Django . It surprised me when Tommy ,and Laurence Juber played together . I had no idea at the time that both were into Django, but they are. It’s those high notes with vibrato that are unmistakable. This was a joy to watch, and an even greater joy to hear .
I use to think I was a very good guitar player till I bought my computer. I found out that there is so dam many good ones with different styles AND you guys are in the top list .I love it cause I learn from you all.Nice sound enjoyed it.
Where have I been that only today do I find out how much had passed me by; and through sheer chance?
Consummate mastery and feel.
I never get tired of watching this video. These two guys are amazing on their own, but when they get together they create pure magic! They combine musical virtuosity with passion, sensitivity, humor and respect. It can't get much better than this!
The first of two times I saw Frank and Vinnie open for Tommy in SF, they were introduced as "two guys from the old country.....Brooklyn." They were great.
My guitar teacher. A great guitarist in Niagara told me " you love to play some of the greatest musician/writers of our time. Practice scales and make the playing your own. Mr. Emmanuel, Poco, Al Demiola, Carlos, Mr. McLaughlin nail it. The planet & mankind are better for them all.
Thanks folks
Невозможно словами выразить восторг от исполнения и техники игры! Маэстро!!!
NOW THAT IS TRUE MUSICAL COMMUNICATION!!! And yes I'm YELLING IT OUT!!!
Очень красиво, молодцы!
Totally wonderful, such magic...
Two incredible musicians at the top of their game....
TOMMY EMMANUEL ? : 'est un "Grand...Grand GUITARISTE" et c'est vraiment un "guitariste". Il a une conception de la guitare auquelle j'adhère complètement. La "sonorité, le feeling, les phrases de son CHORUS" sont remarquables . Rien à dire !
I wish I could see them in concert. Billy Strings is another musician I saw play with Tommy. Makes me smile !!!!!
Some artists just click together. Tommy has worked with a lot of different artists but i think the best shared performances i have ever listened to him perform have been with Frank Vignola and his friends. Awesome.
After watching this, my guitar literally laughing at me..
wonderful playing, they are great together. great touch and feel for the music.
This type of treatment makes it clear what a great piece of music that old Lennon McCartney tune is. These are two of the planet's all time greats. Beautiful Nuages at the end.
Those guys are amazing... true artists...
Wow frank and tommy together😩😩🥶🥶😎
I saw Tommy in concert three years back where he played the whole gig with a broken wrist in plaster. Never missed a beat. Incredible guy and he is so good interacting with an audience. Brilliant! www.musicmoves.org
I saw them last night in Baton Rouge, LA. I have been to a lot of concerts over the years. But, I have never seen that much talent on the stage at one time.
This is so beautiful
Frank is such a professional.
Bravo aux vous 2
Our generation's Django.
Just love the they both play together- beautiful piece of music.
Удивительно красиво! Исполнители заслуживают бурные и продолжительные аплодисменты (местами переходящие в овации)!
Fantastic perf! By the way, it would've been nice to mention Frank on the vid's title...
Very classy Beatles' ever...Here there and everywhere.Richard Tnp
Empathy and trust, pure joy. We do not talk any more about faster, higher. We talk about fun and humor, and the basis. Mature Technique without being selfish.
Pure Class from two of the great masters of guitar - effortless, humorous, beautifully played.
In a world of manufactured music = god bless Tommy Emmanuel and all others like him.
Every time I hear the first couple of chords to this I'm reminded of "Longer than there've been fishes in the ocean
....Higher than any bird ever flew...." 🙂
ФЕНОМИНАЛЬНО !!!
