Stats don’t mean everything in all star voting. Fans vote for a variety of reasons including who would just be more fun to watch. Gimenez has been having a great year and deserves to be an all star. But I don’t think that population won espinal the votes over him
2:08 There's also fans in the USA, mostly citys near the Jays, especially Buffalo (Bison's Triple A and New Hampshire (Fisher Cats Double A). As a resident of Buffalo, almost everybody supports the Jays.
Its not just Toronto, it is the entire country. As a former Seattle resident, I can tell you that Jays fans from BC are fervent and travel a long way to take over T-Mobile Park every year.
Gotta be honest bro, this is legitimately the first time I recall ever paying the slightest bit of attention to the name Andres Gimenez. Put that on the Cleveland promotion team. More out of market baseball fans only hear one thing about the team this year and that is the name change. Their social media presence has no reach out of market and they are letting down the players of what is obviously a good ball club. This is about popularity, and of course The Jays have an entire country behind them as well as fans in every US city. But a big reason for that is that the ball club knows how to sell the teams image. The All Star game is for the fans, so obviously it makes financial sense to go with the bigger numbers.
It's not the fault of the Cleveland promotion team if the national media borderline ignores you for half the season. The amount of omissions when talking about them and sloppy journalism from MLB & ESPN this year got to a point where I'm nearly screaming tinfoil hat bias
It's also because the Jays were the most hyped off-season team on every network and a lot of those US fans are recent on the bandwagon. The club sure plays some role and could do better but media in every beat, from sports to politics, serve as gatekeepers of information
Considering Bichette made it over guys who have name recognition on clubs that can promote (Boagerts) suggests he's equally just victim to Jays ballot box stuffing
the thing is, in the past there have been all star games with only 2-3 Jays. The big issue it seems is a bandwagon developing for Toronto. I'm a Jays fan too. But my god, we don't need 6 starters in the AS game. This has happened with about one team every year too
For NL third baseman, Austin Riley has a 2.0 war, Justin Turner has a -0.6 war, and Eduardo Escobar has a -0.1 war. Ke'bryan Hayes has a 3.1 war, and is somehow not even on there. I probably would put machado and arenado above them, but Hayes not getting third is proof how much market sizes warp results
This is coming from a jays fan so take it with a grain of salt but I think the jays players are leading because they are so fun and entertaining to watch gimmez is better but he is not as fun to watch as Espinal and the jays players. Maybe I am wrong but that is what I think. You are right.
How much of Gimenez have you watched? Gimenez has like 2 walk offs this year. I've watched at least a half dozen full Jays games and don't see the evidence that Espinal is more entertaining
And Gurriel? He's boring as hell. The team vibe is fun, sure but so is the Guardians tbh. Josh Naylor easily is way more fun than Gurriel and is also a better player stats wise. Naylor has a great personality (and he's Canadian, y'all should be ashamed lol) and he's the most clutch player in baseball
Josh Naylor is Canadian yet Gurriel is having a worse season and got in and Naylor wasn't even close to sniffing the top 5. They need to learn to actually support their own
I’m a blue jays fan and I agree that phase 1 is a popularity contest but at the same time that’s how it is and people are gonna vote for their favourite players. Look at tatis who hasn’t played a game and he’s got so many votes for the ASG and hasn’t played a single game all year
As a reds fan, I know our team has been absolute garbage this year but Brandon Drury not being top 5 is a disgrace, and Tyler Stephenson also got snubbed, he’s a .300 hitter and an above average defender, but along with Cleveland, our population is also about 300,000 and only a small percentage of those people are still dedicated to the franchise after the fire sale in the spring.
The Blue Jays have a huge disadvantage in free agency. The fans have top show players that if they come here, they be heavily supported and make $$$ outside baseball. This is strategy if nothing else.
I live in Toronto but it’s stuff like this that ruins all star games Espinal, Bo, Gurriel are good players but none of them deserve to be in the all star game I lowkey hope the MLB steps in and let’s the players that deserve to be in actually make it
Toronto vs Cleveland This just reminds when Zaza pouchulea made it to the all stars because he had a hole country right behind him and the nba made a rule change saying players that makes it doesn't mean they're playing they have to earn it
Fuzzy, I recall you were highly critical of the trade in early April which sent Austin Meadows to Detroit for Isaac Paredes. You blasted the Rays for being too cheap and said the owners shouldn't own the team if they couldn't shell out the big bucks for Meadows' contract. Has your opinion on this trade changed based on early performance of the two players involved?
Agreed. At the same time, I definitely voted for them on less than half my ballots bc outfield is deep with options. They both got about half my votes but I mostly voted for both Buxton and Trout & threw a couple homer votes to Naylor/Brantley

I voted for Bo and Espianal because I like them more then Andres and others that prob should get it, I vote for players I like over the state fans just shouldn’t have such a big part in the voting
Same man
I vote for the most exciting player
I cannot believe how ADAM DUVALL GETS VOTED OVER KYLE SCHWARBER ABSOLUTELY PISSES ME OFF
Finally someone that agrees with me
WHERE IS TAYLOR WARD?! What are we doing? This makes no sense!
This pissed me off so bad!! Andres is the best second baseman in all of baseball!!
In the American League** but Andres deserves it for the AL yes.
Luis Arraez?
@@beastier86 doesn't take away from the fact he's the best hitter in the AL
@@beastier86 well because he is a 2nd baseman. That's his primary position but due to injuries he has had to play 1st but his main position is 2nd base
@@beastier86Youre right he has not played primarily at 2nd. I apologize im just upset he's not in cuz he deserves it
Altuve definitely deserves it. It’s amazing how people hate on Altuve he is clearly the best and most clutch player in his position.
Love the videos
Stats don’t mean everything in all star voting. Fans vote for a variety of reasons including who would just be more fun to watch. Gimenez has been having a great year and deserves to be an all star. But I don’t think that population won espinal the votes over him
I’m a jays fan and I voted for both Gimenez and Altuve
Bo Bichette has a .719 OPS and beating Tim Anderson and Xander Boegarts who have .850+ Ops
Dude it’s always been a popularity contest with the fan votes 😂
Fernando I know is just all the padres fans, despite he is my favorite player it’s just weird. So many people got snubbed pretty much worse than ever
Nimmo being 10th in NL outfield voting is disgusting
They have an entire country that’s why lmfao
the thing is, in the past there have been all star games with only 2-3 Jays. The big issue it seems is a bandwagon developing for Toronto. I'm a Jays fan too. But my god, we don't need 6 starters in the AS game. This has happened with about one team every year too
VOTE FOR TIM ANDERSON! Bo Bichette should be nowhere near the all star game
It’s not only jays fans voting for Kirk everyone knows he deserves to be there more than any player
For American League outfielders, I think you have to put Taylor Ward in that conversation too.
Fuzzy....the Jays are Canada's team, and it's not just Toronto area folks voting but you got votes coming from Vancouver, Regina & Halifax too
Josh Naylor is Canadian yet Gurriel is having a worse season and got in and Naylor wasn't even close to sniffing the top 5. They need to learn to actually support their own
Every team being represented in the game is the worst single rule related to anything about any all state game in any sport.
I’m a blue jays fan and I agree that phase 1 is a popularity contest but at the same time that’s how it is and people are gonna vote for their favourite players. Look at tatis who hasn’t played a game and he’s got so many votes for the ASG and hasn’t played a single game all year
As a reds fan, I know our team has been absolute garbage this year but Brandon Drury not being top 5 is a disgrace, and Tyler Stephenson also got snubbed, he’s a .300 hitter and an above average defender, but along with Cleveland, our population is also about 300,000 and only a small percentage of those people are still dedicated to the franchise after the fire sale in the spring.
worst part is that a guy with a .200 batting average and a negative war made the allstar team over guys like Happ and Nimmo
Kyle Tucker needs to be in the all star game
Why are fans allowed to vote, theres too much bias.
I mean this happens every year, idk why people even care anymore
This is honesty ridiculous
The Blue Jays have a huge disadvantage in free agency. The fans have top show players that if they come here, they be heavily supported and make $$$ outside baseball. This is strategy if nothing else.
Toronto has 3 million people plus all of Canada. So the amount of votes going his way is crazy
Worst fan voting since 2015
I live in Toronto but it’s stuff like this that ruins all star games Espinal, Bo, Gurriel are good players but none of them deserve to be in the all star game I lowkey hope the MLB steps in and let’s the players that deserve to be in actually make it
You're taking it too seriously
Toronto vs Cleveland
This just reminds when Zaza pouchulea made it to the all stars because he had a hole country right behind him and the nba made a rule change saying players that makes it doesn't mean they're playing they have to earn it
While the top 2 for the NL SS are both very good and are hitting super well, Tommy Edman has the highest total WAR in THE ENTIRE MLB
Absolute snub
Fuzzy, I recall you were highly critical of the trade in early April which sent Austin Meadows to Detroit for Isaac Paredes. You blasted the Rays for being too cheap and said the owners shouldn't own the team if they couldn't shell out the big bucks for Meadows' contract. Has your opinion on this trade changed based on early performance of the two players involved?
I can’t believe that Ward and Hays didn’t get voted in. They need to change up the voting systems
Agreed. At the same time, I definitely voted for them on less than half my ballots bc outfield is deep with options. They both got about half my votes but I mostly voted for both Buxton and Trout & threw a couple homer votes to Naylor/Brantley
Even as a kid I used to vote for who I thought deserved it. As a fan I hate to say this but we don't deserve to decide when things like this happen.
Jays fan here. jays have all of Canada behind them so they will obviously win. I don’t think it’s fair but there is nothing Americans can do when they have more teams
