Just read some the comments about the song's origins. It's based on the Phrygian mode - musical modes have been mentioned as far back as Ancient Greece (both Plato & Aristotle discussed them) - and it's highly unlikely that this was the first time they were used. Every musician throughout history has been influenced by something, a process that goes back far further than anyone can chart. Arguing about a song's origins in silly - if you don't like it, go and listen to something you do like.

And by the way, the argument about this being a Turk/ Greek song is particularly silly, the dominant Phrygian mode is modern & is mostly used in Romanian & Ukrainian folk music. I believe the melody was taken from a Ukrainian folk song and also, as far as I'm aware, the song isn't about praising God, but rather about celebrating the Balfour Declaration.

Sorry the lyrics are a bit squashed up but I had to trim it down to fit the space!
One of the best examples of this song to learn the lyrics is by Matt Monro (The Man!)
Can`t find it on YT but I found it quite by accident on Spotify. In fact that was the first time I had ever heard it. I was looking for other stuff by MM.
Please note: The digraph ch is pronounced like the German ch after a back vowel,as in Bach [IPA: /x/].

What do you mean "Why does it matter where he/she is from"? that's the whole basis of his/ her arguement isn't? He hates people from Turkey.
Quite why I don't understand, but each to his own...
What if I hated people from America? (I don't) Then what? Is that ok?
I suppose if people are allowed to rage on turks, then they're allowed to rage about americans right?
