I love Jared's genuine happiness when the music kicks in after he starts the game.
When Jared jumped and landed on the steps in front of Zelda, my brain felt the very reality of the universe being torn asunder.
I hope there are a bunch of these types of remakes/reimagines of retro games.

There is a Zelda link to the past rom hack that is well worth being added to this collection of retro fan made games. It's called Link to the Past: Hylian Legacy. Heavily recommend!

I've only ever experienced Zelda II from other LP channels, but this is the first time I've ever wanted to actually play it for myself. They've made so many QoL changes from the original and it looks so fun. I can't wait to see more.
I started this a while ago but never got to finishing it. I like it, though so far I'm not a hundred percent about the changes. Looking forward to this playthrough!
Was never a huge Zelda 2 fan, but this looks fun!
Point 1:Bits and Bots (red and blue slimes) in Palaces have always been tougher than the ones in the overworld.
Point 2: They also always infinitely respawn, as do bats (Aches) and Myu (the tiny spike creature you normally can only kill with downthrust).
I played Zelda 2 for the first time in 2021 and had fun before giving up to difficulty. Now we got this amazing project and I wanna play all over again!! Let's keep it going Jerd!

I had not even heard of this being a thing! This is awesome! To see such love given to the most underappreciated Zelda game is phenomenal! This actually got my attention enough that it came off of my second screen to get full attention.

Remastered Zelda II? Hell yeah! This game is my childhood and it's always bothered me that people consider it the worst Zelda game. Hopefully more people will appreciate it now
People will always hate Zelda 2 for as long as it exists.
Of course, then you also have people who enjoy action platformers and can appreciate a game even if the mainline title is a different genre.

Its my all time favorite zelda game, and is a shame that not more people know about it, especially when its so good ( I personally think its better than any of the official games that have come out in decades)

Loving this idea! Just wish maybe they had made it 16 bit rather than keeping 8 bit (i mean nostalgia aside at least, i think it would have been fine)
I believe from the Discored channel they talked about allowing graphic swaps, but not sure how far along that would be.
Looks like it does actually respect the spirit of the original which is nice, but it adds a lot too. Might be worth checking out.

All these changes and they still kept Link's knife instead of giving him a proper sword.

So, what’s the point of delaying the leveling? If you just cancel, you’re simply not getting the upgrades.
The way Levels work in this Game is that you basically "buy" them with your Experience Points, so delaying them keeps your EXP around to let you go for a different Stat first if you want to actively prioritize a specific one.
To give a made-up example, imagine an Upgrade for one Stat costs 500 EXP and 1000 for another. If you take the 500 Upgrade, now your EXP is back to 0, and you need to get another 1000 for the other Stat. If you skip the 500 Upgrade though, you still have those Points and now just need another 500 to get to the 1000 Upgrade.
When you got attacked by the shadow monsters the first time a preview of Kung-Fu Panda four popped up for me so it looked like that's what was attacking you. Like all the overworld monsters was just add interruptions. :P

Shockingly excellent execution so far! There's so much more depth to everything while still maintaining the look and feel of the OG Zelda II (which I also adore as a staple of my childhood). It's no small feat to make a retro game broader and deeper while keeping the style and fundamental experience the same. Finding more heart and magic bits in more secret places, changes to the platforming and letting you jump on more stuff, entrances to other areas within towns and castles and the FIRST PALACE, little sprite updates, the multi-tier change to how the Candle works... just astounding. I'm completely here for this! Weeks of this: yes, please!

actually true for a lot of speedrunners and pros. I love the fact Zelda games let you set your own difficulty IN-GAME, by you choosing to upgrade your health with heart containers or not. underrated brilliant feature. @@Serin9X

I'm glad it came out without a C&D. Hoverbat handled it perfectly. I would love to see the same love on games like Crystalis, Battle of Olympus, heck even Castlevania II could use a better one than all the current hacks we have... But the one game I've always wanted done right was Zelda II, and the dream has become a reality, so I won't complain if none of these other games ever gets this treatment. Because I have this Z2 remake in even greater glory than I could have ever dreamed up.
@@amerk6601 nintendo likely knew the game needed a remake and they refuse to make an official remake, so they let hoverbat finish and release this remake.

Hoverbat did such an amazing job on this version. Even going so far as to work on a linux version so it can be played on the Steam Deck without having to go through the whole step by step to get it to work.
Jared, would love to see you do a full playthrough, it's SO good.

@schwarzerritter5724 Hoverbat is working on one, but on the official discord, there is currently a workaround to get it to work on linux.

Please play it all, this remake is amazing. Don't assume you know everything. Talk to everybody, investigate everything just like if it's a new game. There are tons of new things all over.
ProTip: To play blind, use darkened sunglasses at night, with 40% screen brightness... or ya know use a screw driver. (but that has it's own set of cons)
That's an amazing amount of work, Well done to those that helped make this remaster. It looks like they did a great job.
If you get in the mood to do a top ten or a quasi-highlights reel of cool mods to old games, I'd watch the heck out of that. These modded retro games you've been playing have been amazing!
If there was a remake/reimagining of Crystalis, I'd lose my mind. Thats one of my favorite RPGs from when I was a kid.
The Gameboy Color version might be worth a play?

It definitely needs updating. QoL like the bracelets auto-equip when you equip a sword, certain items are passives, NO level gating mobs and bosses, no being vulnerable to only one sword, instead they just take extra damage from one sword while the rest just do neutral or less damage.
I am looking forward to seeing this! I’ve never played these older Zelda games so it’s always fun to watch your content 😊
