On my trip to VA, I got an opportunity to fly along in the pilot seat in a private jet; The cessna citation ii also known as the citation 550.
This particular aircraft is a 1982 model and it is owned by a good friend who flies it for business and pleasure. The jet is well equipped with a Garmin 700 and 730. Cabin is also spacious and luxurious.
The Cessna II is a light jet and it’s certainly not the fastest jet out there. It will seat up to 9 people comfortably, go up to 2,000 miles at 400 mph and you’re burning roughly 200 gallons of fuel per hour on both engines.
This particular jet was purchased for about $500,000 and then another $200,000 in upgrades. Viola you have a pretty neat private jet for short hops in comfort.

he uses both hands to rotate because when you hit V1 (your decision speed) in a multi-engine jet, you take your hands off the throttle to reinforce the idea that a rejected takeoff is no longer an option
Mike, the Citation 2 is not nose heavy and is pretty light on the controls. The reason he has both hands on the control is because when you reach V1 you are committed to continue the takeoff, you take your hand off the thrust
levers and put them on the control yoke because you are past the speed that you would abort the takeoff if you had any problems.
I agree with RC Flyr...the Citation II is not nose heavy...after passing V1 the pilot flying puts both hands on the control wheel simply because you are committed to flight now...pull back with both hands to rotate.
Guy, Mojo Mike pitches the videos for wannabe flyers. if the pilot puts two hands on the steering they can understand that because "its heavy nosed", they cant understand complicated stuff like V1 that isn't for non pilots. Mike brings life and energy to his videos you don't need boring specific facts, images and imagination work.

I like Mojo Mike and sub to his channel, I flew the Citation II in my first pilot job in 1983. Yes many wanna be pilots watch his channel and there are many levels of people who watch the videos. Some people watch the video to learn more about aviation and at some point may even jump the gap from being a wanna be to actually going out and starting a flying career. I am pointing out information for the people that are interested in learning a little more about how it works. If you watch a video of a 2 pilot crew with audio you will hear the pilot not flying the aircraft making speed calls such as , airspeed alive, 80 knots, V1, rotate. When the pilot flying hears V1 then he is no longer going to try to stop the aircraft if there is a problem such as an engine failure ect. He will continue the takeoff, that is why the hand on the thrust levers comes off and onto the control yoke so he won’t pull the power. Most airplanes don’t need to be muscled off the ground with 2 hands as they have a pitch trim systems that allows you to trim off any nose heavy tendencies. UA-cam is a great place to learn from the comment section, I have learned lots from watching and reading comments.

Thanks for responding. I read a lot of comments about Mojo Mike's videos. They criticise the lack of research and the factual accuracy. The criticism are accurate and fair. I like facts and accuracy so to me it seems wrong that Mike just says things that aren't true. But he means well. He does the best he can to his ability. His subscribers are people like him, who don't care about accuracy, maybe they have overcome adversity to achieve like Mojo has. They just want a good story. Its You Tube
@@scottmcdonald3019 My $.01 (blame it on quantitative easing): I'm not a pilot but my two best friends are airline pilots and I've been in the right seat a number of times with them on smaller aircraft. After my kids are through college I'd love to get my license. So Mike's videos are great because he doesn't assume that I know a lot. I appreciate that. At the same time, I appreciate more knowledgable pilots commenting and adding to the base of knowledge for the community. So, to @RC Flyer and others, thanks for adding value to the channel! 👍🏼

Speaking of two hands, at Brand X we are taught to rotate with both hands but to then immediately get your throttle hand back on the power levers.
The Flying Pilot shoves the power-up, the A/T takes over and fine-tunes the setting, and the Non-Flying Pilot verifies that the correct, planned power setting has been achieved. The Captain then puts his hand on the thrust levers till V1 since he is solely responsible for all rejected takeoffs. Rotate at Vr and your throttle hand goes right back to the power levers. It's considered poor form to leave both hands on the yoke and the instructor pilot will point it out. The real benefit to using two hands on the power levers at rotation, from MY point of view is if you lose an engine at or just above V1 the last thing you want to do is induce roll. Keeping the bottom of the yolk horizontal across your legs is the key and using the appropriate rudder to keep the wings from level to slightly banked into the operating engine, depending on the airplane. Rudder, not roll. Roll induces too much drag, especially with spoilers which are common on transports in addition to ailerons. I learned that while transitioning to the 727 my first jet and it served me well on every type I flew afterward. The key to a decent V1 cut in everything I ever flew was a smooth, slow rotation to the absolute proper pitch and keeping the wings level. You've got one shot to get it right. With proper technique, there is nothing to it. Even at max gross weight.

I think maybe we like Mike for a some of the same reasons, his enthusiasm and passion he has for Aviation is what I enjoy. I think I’m almost as excited for him as he is about building his Sling. My comments are not to be taken as criticism , only to correct a factual error. Mike is young and relatively new to aviation and I’m sure he will will continue to put out even better videos as time goes on.

Saw a Citation splattered across the runway at Bahia San Ignacio, Baja California in the 80s. They came in a bit low and tore the gear off, then piled up. Everybody walked away, which is a good thing because there’s no fire or rescue service down there. The body of the Citation was all crinkled up like a tin can. I’m really surprised they got out. The aircraft was owned by a Las Vegas casino and the owner was flying down to take over driving the second leg of the Baja 1000 in the casino sponsored race truck. Baja is unforgiving.
That was my bosses airplane. Happened before I started flying for him. Fuel leaking from the wings, good thing there wasn’t a fire.

The avionics looks like dual Garmin 750's to me which is the most common GPS upgrade to this aircraft. Our Citation II flight simulator has a Garmin 750 and a 650 installed. But this one looks like two 750's were added.
The Citation II requires two pilots. Your pilot has an SP Type rating to fly single pilot. Where I work we give SP training for pilots wanting to fly the II single pilot. But otherwise the II by default needs two pilots if neither has an SP Endorsement.

The small size and curb weight of this jet just blows my mind, so light. Is it hard to fly with 7 people on board and full of fuel? First learned of this jet when Joe Lara put one in the drink.

200 gallons per hour... Kentucky to Montanna 4 to. 5 hours. 1000 gallons per trip one side.. Price per gallon is now 5 $ per gallon jet fuel... That alot

When it's such a costly plane new, isn't it worth updating the interior when that's the only thing that really looks aged on a jet. Must have much higher appeal for customers.

Drop the music next time. These videos are about hearing the plane and radios. The Citation SII does around 475 mph. 40,000 ft. They are one of the least expensive to maintain per year but it still adds up to around $400k-600k a year in total operating costs. I'd do a TBM 900 series over this. One less engine reduces costs a lot.

All depends on your location, just like auto fuel prices.
By me it runs $4.29/gal.

Modern avionics are great, but if it costs 10k/hour to fly, you’d better spend another 2 million and upgrade the engines, then fly the wings off it. :)

Fuel burn is 200 gph. Aprox $1200/hr to operate.

Hey mike nice job as always my man bro nice Jet yes good size and all family cheap to buy but man 200 hundred gallons an hour aiii what is the price of jet fuel per gallon these days anyway ? So if at say $5 bucks a gallon that's a grand an hour just to fly it let alone all other stuff wow hm kind of pricy gotta be a rich dude to own one of these and it's almost 40 years old

The Citation is not nose heavy, if you use your trim correctly no aircraft is nose heavy. Mike, get it right before you post, don't speculate or assume when the correct answer is out there. The conditions determine the take off roll maybe you were including getting stopped if you abort take off before V1, again be clear in your reporting. What would be the need to go upstairs at 3,000 ft per minute, so don't expect that request from ATC. Fuel burn per hour is determined by altitude mainly, higher altitude less fuel burn. I offer my knowledge and I'm sure others will as well but you need to get it right, respectfully submitted sir.

Yes. Not trying to be too technical but some Citation II aircraft were certified single pilot out of the factory and they were designated C551. The majority of the production was 550. Most if not all Citation ll 550 aircraft can be flown single pilot with the appropriate pilot single pilot type rating and certain FAA paperwork for the particular tail number you are flying. To be clear in either the 550 or the 551 you need the single pilot type rating.

Yes. But you would need to break the flight into several legs. Say Newfoundland to Greenland. Then Greenland to Iceland. Then Iceland to continental Europe.
