- Maschinen Krieger Weathering Gunk Wash for the Scale Model Lunadiver Stingray. Hi guys, here’s my Ma.K Lunadiver Stingray kit all painted and weathered up. It’s an armored strike fighter used to spearhead the assault on the Strahl’s Luna Bases, taking out the defenses with it’s powerful rail gun to allow the follow up forces to to land and take control. My finish is trying to replicate how it might look towards the end of the re-entry burn back to earth and I’m thinking of calling it, “That was Bumpy!”. What do you think?
In this video, I will share with you how I ruined and then un-ruined it and tested out a bunch of new steps.
It was a little scary but loads of fun too!
I’d like to give a grateful shout out to 2 stores in the USA who are carrying my new book locally there for you, Burbank House of Hobbies and Michigan Toy Soldier. They also both have Ma.K Kits, paints and accessories too. I checked on their websites. No, not a sneaky promo at all, just a free shout out for good stores selling cool stuff as a heads up for you awesome folks watching this.

Just want to say that I have frequented Burbank House of Hobbies for the entire duration of my modeling career and have never had a bad experience. Absolutely phenomenal store with great people
That’s excellent to read something so positive about them, good stuff Marshall 😊👍
Thanks Lincoln, you truly are an exceptional artist!
Maschinen Krieger is so cool. Glad people still like this. I know this is strange but I actually like the box art of the models and just design because it makes it look like the models are actually made from their world not ours. love the suspension of disbelief I get when I go over them
Yes Ma.K seems to be a growing in popularity now! More kits are available as well as fresh publications. Totally agree, it’s really good stuff!!
Spectacular! Watching you expertly dirty up a white ship is inspiring me to build an X-Wing!
Disgustingly beautiful man. Love your process, it's very similar to how I work. I have a plan and then play until I get the look I want. It's a very freeing and relaxing way to work.
Haha, yes this seems the more enjoyable way to work doesn’t it? Many thanks Matt!
I just picked up your book yesterday in Canada. It's the exact kind of guide I've been hoping to find. Haven't been able to put it down! Thanks for sharing your Insite
Awesome, thank you Jonathan! Please also check out my website for more good stuff, www.paintonplastic.com
I think you nailed it with the question "Is it right?" Doesn't have to be "right" just has to be what you are happy with. This was a good one, thank you Linc!
Many thanks and yes it feels right 😊👍
Love it Linc, the engines turned out great.
Oh cool, very happy you like them!
Great Video!!! Thanks for sharing your techniques.
Most welcome Michael 🙏
Excellent finish. Totally has the re entry feel.
Hey thanks Franco, happy to get it close to right! 🤩
Just got your AK sci-fi book all the way from Spain and diving straight in! 10/10 quality and content, beautiful photos and tons of insights! Also how did you get Zemekis on the forward?? Good get, Linc!
Thanks for being a constant source of inspiration and for the always-up vibes!
Oh excellent!! Many thanks always @apudhimself, really hope you enjoy it 😊👋
so great , thank you.
Thank you too!
Simple Jack approves of the bulldog sauce and another great paint job.
haha, perfect response! Thanks Haven, so happy you enjoyed it. ^^
This must be what Rinaldi spoke of.
Hahaha “it’s a feature” still love Humbrol though
Does the gunk wash ever dry? I have had trouble with oil paints coming off weeks later.
Nice!!
Hi mate when you've completed the oil gunk wash what varnish do you seal everything in with ? Thanks mark
I like to use Mr Super Clear Mark!
Hi Linc, did you varnish the model after painting, and before proceeding with the weathering sauce? I love using lacquers for basic painting but I am not sure if I can use oil weathering techniques on top of them without reactivating the lacquers with the oil medium - without a varnish first (varnish acrylic or lacquer would be best?, I wonder). The problem with varnishes that I have is that you loose the nice variation in shininess and specularity (ok same thing... 😊 ) you can achieve using matte, glossy and satin lacquers together.
Hi Manos, yes there is some clear lacquer varnish here over the decals but before the weathering sauce. The mineral spirits will attack the water slides. I chose semi-gloss so that it doesn't stain the surface too quickly. Hope that helps!!
@@PaintonPlasticbyLincolnWright thanks for the quick reply Linc! Yes, I understand, this makes sense. Cheers!
Bumpy is a great name.
We better hang on ‼️😂
@@PaintonPlasticbyLincolnWright hold on to your tare!
😂😂
Cool
Thanks 😊
@@PaintonPlasticbyLincolnWright I recently copied the bace coat from this on a GW model, I think your can a racing white had more left than mine. I'm also stuck trying to decide if I want to paint it or not, the two tone white looks really nice.
Ps I haven't actually had a chance to watch this yet
What about clay based gunk wash?
Wow, I’m not familiar, please show me! 🙏
Nice! Are any shops in Oz going to stock your book Linc?
Yes so far I have seen The Combat Company, BNA Hobbies and Metro Hobbies 😊👍
@@PaintonPlasticbyLincolnWright Excellent hope it’s stocked soon(:
