I bought the Interstellar Pilot Day Date two years ago and just picked up this Murph watch to complete the collection. My initial reaction is: beautiful, attractive watch. Two downsides to this watch I noticed immediately. There is not ARC on it and I just don't understand why they didn't, esp. at this price point. Second is the stiff band - not so much the 42mm case size. I think this would feel better on the wrist if Hamilton packaged this with a softer band. I'm going to swap it out for a NATO strap. For those dads out there - FYI - my youngest is off to college in the fall. she's my film enthusiast, and she is going to get this watch on dorm move in day. we will be a long ways apart, so with these Hamilton watches she'll know we will always be connected through time and space. Gotta thank Nolan for this one.

Way late, but in case you haven't already purchased, all signs point to Hamilton releasing a smaller version of this watch sometime in the next few days. They have a countdown on their website titled "Something SMALL is coming" and have hinted strongly it is related to this model.
Swapping in a NATO band on this is a fire move. Gonna have to grab this now.
A very nice watch but way too long lug2lug and a bit too large, a shame cause it would have sold like candies if in 39mm or 40mm. :(
After years of dreaming about it, I finally bought one today! Interstellar is my all-time favorite movie, and it feels special to own this watch. While it's quite a substantial watch, it's very light and slim. 38mm would probably fit a bit better on my wrist, but 42 is the OG - it's the watch they used in the movie and EUREKA is something special that 38mm doesn't have.
Such a beautiful piece. If it had a 38-39 mm case I would have already bought one.

I love the Murph! As Interstellar is my favourite movie, I just had to have both the Coop and the Murph. Both are in my regular rotation.
Great review Teddy. I saw Interstellar a few days ago and was blown away by the film, I love this watch, yes it's on the larger side but as the band drops right down from the lug this may not be such a big issue as some may think. The case size of 42 again on paper gives the impression of a larger watch but the black dial it actually may wear smaller. Once lock down rules are relaxed I suggest trying one on if you are unsure about the fit. I know I will be.
Just got this watch from your site and I do not regret it one bit. I love this watch so much no AR coating does suck but i dont mind it one bit and it fits just fine on my wrist.
I just bought the classic khaki field a few weeks ago...I was considering the murph since I find its dial more beautiful and its style more dressy and serious but its almost double the price so I am happy with my purchase since it has been in my wishlist for 4 years!Maybe someday I will upgrade to murph!!
I have a 7 3/4in wrist and the 42mm looks great on my arm. Love this thing. I have had some other nice watches, but this one has become my favorite. I think I just like the simple, classic look that is has.

Teddy, I'd like to compliment you for your thorough honesty in these videos. (I mean, makes perfect sense, you don't want someone buying a watch from and and being unhappy).
I like the Murph. Too bad about the size. My wrist is about the size of yours. 40mm is my usual max, 42mm is ok if the lugs are not greater than 50mm or so. Seiko divers bend physics and don't count.
My largest non-seiko is a 42mm Mont Blanc 1858 chronograph. The lugs are right around 50-51. It's at the very extreme end of what I can wear, and it took a bunch of straps to find one that situates the watch in a way that I don't look like a kid wearing my dad's watch.
Finally get a review of a medium sized watch for my 7.5 inch wrist and it's mostly warnings about how giant it is. I wonder what the average wrist size is, because it seems like every reviewer in the world has 6.5 in wrists. I can't shop for watches without being told how gigantic it is. Tried this on in person and it's perfectly balanced in every way.
I have the same "problem" but I definitly consider it an advantage, as the larger watches are definitly taking a dump on the second hand market, wich means good deals for us, larger wristed gentlemans.
Not sure why reviewers use wrist size. That's like measuring feet with literal feet. Some have round wrists, some have flat wrists. I have a very flat wrist despite being short - makes it easy to wear large lug to lug watches ;)
Maybe you have larger than average wrists? Given that over half the comments here seem to be complaints about the size, I don't think his criticisms are unwarranted. Anyway, I'd say larger wrists are a good thing since you have greater choice in which watches you can wear without looking ridiculous.

@@ghostxfairy it goes the other way for me. Nearly every watch is 38mm which is way too small. Cant count how many times I've had my heart broken by a 38mm.
I love the size, anywhere between 39-43 is fine. Hamilton have really benefited from their use in Nolan's films.

Just noticed an error in this video regarding the movement. The H-10 is the all metal C07.611, not the C07.111, which utilizes some plastic components.

This a fantastic watch. Yes it is on the larger side due to its lug to lug length but still wears nicely. This looks great on larger wrists. 7 inch plus
This is a home run for me since I have large wrists. Love it!
As much as people mention how big the watch is the biggest problem I have with ownership of this watch is it's lack of AR coating, it's incredibly reflective in every environment you're in. I've had issues seeing the time in my living room at night. No idea why Hamilton didn't coat it with it's price point. Size is fine for anyone with a wrist bigger than 6 - 3/4. It really is beautiful. In 2022 you can find this watch for $750-780 easily. I don't regret my purchase at all.
I have a 6.5in wrist and own this one. Yes it's big, but to me that's the charm as it gives some presence and links to the film (which I enjoyed). Definitely a conversation piece especially talking about the morse code on the second hand.
In the movie it was worn by a kid and a woman with slender wrist. There is no charm in overhanging lugs on a male wrist.

Nice review. I own this watch and I love it. Yes it's a little big but it fits my 7.5 wrists comfortably with no issues. My only issue with it is I am not a big fan of the strap it came on. Been wanting to put it on something different (no, not a NATO...GAG) for a while just haven't gotten around to it. For anyone considering I recommend you get it. You won't be disappointed.
I was really bummed out about this watch for coming in at 42mm because I was equally excited when they started hinting its release. The case and movement is basically what they have in Khaki King Auto so I don't get as to why they didn't release it in 40mm or under.
As someone with an 8.2inch wrist, this is perfect. I look forward to owning one someday

You mentioned that the hands don’t shine much, but you can charge them under the light of the son, if you light it for 5 minutes it will shine a lot.

I love the film, I love the watch, as you mentioned its on the large side even on my 7.5" wrist, (dial diameter).
But this watch is really beautiful, if anybody wants a smaller copy, look for Montblanc 1858 for approximately double the price! With no any connection to the film which is worthless.

52 is probably the max I can wear on my 7.25" wrist. I have a few watches that are 51mm, and it's close, but at least they don't go quite to the edges. The price on these stings a little bit, but it's not terrible. One thing I have noticed is that the faux aged lume look tends not to be as bright as regular lume. There may be exceptions. Just something I noticed. That being said, this isn't a dive watch. I imagine most people will be using it if they're transitioning into/out of a dark area or in a car at night where it should be bright enough to see. It's a nice watch, and I'm glad they came out with it. I'm personally more attracted to the "Murph" Khaki Aviation model from Interstellar. It's on my short list for watch purchases this year.
I love the style and size, I have a Tissot seastar it’s comfortable to wear
42mm is undeniably big, but it can still work. The downside of this is the enormous lug to lug - need to have a VERY big wrist to pull this off. I have a couple of larger Seiko’s but the lug to lug makes them wearable. Drop the lug to lug to under the magic 50mm and it would undoubtedly fit more people - mind a 40 to 41mm diameter would also be better...but not absolutely needed.
The lugs are to blame. I have a Pan Europ (42mm as well). But I can wear it, as the lugs are very short.
I own this watch and love it! I wear it everyday and don’t have any complaints.

Loved the movie, love the watch. Went instore, they had it in stock. Great. Tried it on and was gutted. The 52mm lug width is huge on small wrists. It looked like I was wearing a satellite dish. I love Hamiltons, I'm wearing one now, but I have to wear a case size down from every other brand I own due to their nuts sized lug to lug. Really frustrating

Ignore the naysayers - I have a 7.5" wrist and have watches up to 48mm and they are all fine. This is a great watch - Hamilton at its best.

Teddy once again an excellent review. You and TGV are the best of the Best, although my wife just loves your vidoes since I got her into watches. Turns out that was an expensive mistake as she now had an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 32 on order. OUCH.

That’s a nice looking watch. It’d be even better as a handwind imo, like the field mechanical. I like the clear dial and no date combination.
But automatic wouldn’t stop me or anyone else I guess, so I see why it’s auto.
The Murph is an auto but you can also handwind it. I love that feature.
That lug to lug is so absurd, considering that spring bars are allocated that close to the case.

My big wrist needs at least 41mm , so I'm happy with the Murph being 42mm.
I think Hamilton really dropped the ball by not using an AR coating on this masterpiece. More often than not I find myself maneuvering my wrist to see the time.

It's just funny how this more expensive version of the Khaki Field looks much more like the Alpinist that it's often compared to. It's like Nolan himself had always been torn between the two watches, and decided to commission one that mixes elements of both.
Too big for me otherwise I would find it alongside my Jazzmaster GMT and Khaki field auto (38mm).
If they made it with a 40mm case and 46-47mm lug to lug, I'd already have an order confirmation email.

I own the Murph and on my 7.50” wrist, it hugs the wrist. It is so versatile ... from casual to field watch to dress watch in a heartbeat. I agree with Teddy that Hamilton lume is not the best, but I feel that most reviews miss the point on luminosity ... check the watch in the early morning when it is still dark. If the hands are still visible, the lume is good enough.
any recommendations that has almost/comparable dial like murph?
im looking for a watch that shows the full 1-12 numerals but with screwdown crown just to be safe. im looking at nodus sector field/pilot but they are 38mm.

I discovered your channel last fall after I got re-introduced to mechanical watches. I have an odd question, how much is too much to pay for a watch running a ETA 28XX or Seiko NHXX/4RXX movements? With luxury brands, you tend to get an in house movement but there are watches that range from $100 to $2000 that use the work horse ETA/Sellita, Miyota, or Seiko 7SXX/4RXX movements. I guess my real question is, where is the REAL value in a watch... the movement or the fit/finish?
I have nothing against any of these movements, my watch box is full of Bambinos, Seiko 5s, Islanders, a couple of ETAs and a few Soviet era Vostoks.

I was really looking at this to be my first watch but my wrist is 6.7". Could I get away with it or look for something smaller?
This would be a cool gift for a daughter graduating high school/college. Also - you used ‘catherdral’ as an adjective which is interesting because Nolan/Hans Zimmer used organs for much of the soundtrack to add a sense of spirituality to the movie. I wonder if that detail in this watch was intentional.
