Although doctors assured Mouza and Majid that their baby girl was perfectly healthy, her parents still worried. Their newborn daughter had the same wiry, curly hair as several of her cousins who all have giant axonal neuropathy (GAN), a highly rare and incurable, neurodegenerative disease.
As she grew, Muna’s parents watched their youngest daughter like hawks for any sign she might develop the same symptoms as her cousins. When by age 3 Muna’s gait didn’t steady and her falls became more frequent, her parents didn’t have to wait for the genetic test results to confirm their greatest fear. But thanks to a clinical trial at the National Institutes of Health and you for making The Children’s Inn a free and welcoming support for them, Muna and her family have reasons for hope.
