New subscriber. Spent four months in Chiang Mai, Thailand in 2013. Then two months in Siem Reap in 2017, followed by four days in Bangkok. (Took the Giant Ibis bus from Siem Reap, to Poipet, to Bangkok)
Got a nice apartment in Siem Reap for just a bit over $100 a month. Never used my air conditioning. Used fan only. In two to three weeks my body had acclimated to the heat. (I had done the same thing in Chiang Mai….acclimated to the heat instead of using the air con.)
Saved a whopping lot of money on my electric bill. And didn’t suffer any more in the heat once I was acclimated.
Loved Angkor Wat and the temples. Just ate at little local mom and pop restaurants. Cheap and good food. Avoided the money traps on Pub Street.
Thank you for your videos. I’m 70 now. Coming back to live the rest of my life there. Getting a year long pass for Angkor Wat Archeological Park this time. 🙏🏼 👍🏼 🌴 ☸️

@@mikemiller5445 Well….one thing’s for sure. Use air conditioning, don’t dress properly for the climate, overfill with meat and alcohol and biggie size your meals, and not drink enough water, …you will never acclimate.
Especially air conditioning. Alternating between air conditioned home or hotel room and hot outside, and it only confuses your body. Your body will never acclimate.
When I learned that, I stopped using air conditioning. I haven’t used air conditioning now in almost 20 years. Open screened windows and fans only during the summer or in the hot tropics. Thin, summer weight material quick wicking button shirt with roll up sleeves, thin summer weight material zip off leg cargo pants. My shirts and pants one size too big, to allow air circulation between clothing and skin. Ventilated medium brim hat, bare feet in good sandals with proper arch support and heel strap. Smaller meals, mostly fresh fruit and vegetables, only small amounts of chicken or fish. Always carry a bottle of water. Go on walks each day outside.
I acclimate in only two to three weeks if I do all those things.
I actually reach the point that if I am exposed to air conditioning, I find it very uncomfortable and unpleasant. Even if it is 105° F outside.
I’m of northwest European ancestry, born and raised in Canada. Yet I can still acclimate to hot, humid tropical climate.

The prices are amazing, you couldn't even come close to that in the US. The government right where you are doesn't seem too bad either. Great information James, thank you!

Your accent is somewhat posh. In brief, what is your background?
