  • This video will describe the design, manufacture and testing of a Roller Bearing Assembly that mounts on the side panel of the Tormach 8L Lathe. This Roller Bearing Assembly encompasses three roller bearings that reduce vibration and enables the turning of bars up to 30 inches long on the Tormach 8L lathe.
I will be making two versions of the Roller Bearing Plate - one out of Delrin Plastic and a second version out of Aluminum. I decided to make both of these versions out of ½” thick plate each 6” x 6” square. By using the ½” thick plate I will be able to cut grooves ¼” deep for the roller bearing bars.

I think you solved your problem John! I was wondering if those bearings would heat up at that speed? Thank you for sharing!

I had not thought of that. They are stainless steel roller bearings with Delrin sleeves. If it turns out to be a problem, I could go to a larger roller bearing. I will need to some testing when I actually start making some parts. Thanks for the heads up.
