John I always put some glue on the part to be glued but I always leave 2 small spaces where I put some superglue. The superglue is just to hold the part intact while the woodglue dry.

None of my comments are critical. Hmmm that word has to many different meanings. critical as in show stopper.
Have you ever tried table salt to lessen the slide around factor?

Titebond has a Thick and quick glue that is really good.
