- Kakamega Crying Stone is a cultural site in Kakamega County, Kenya. The stone is located at Ilesi, just near Kakamega town along Kisumu-Kakamega Highway. Crying stone is called 'Ikhongo Murwi' in the local language. The stone was formed as if a head was resting on the body, and it is about 40 metres tall.
Great piece on this crown jewel of Kakamega. As a little boy I was mesmerized by it whenever I passed Ilesi. Great that she is still standing.County should rehabilitate the entire stretch leading to the stone.It should also purchase the land around the stone and develop it - put up recreation facilities to attract tourists.
The county is actually in the process of purchasing the land
