This is almost unbelievable ... in as I am amazed at 2 things and not how it is constructed but 2 other things. One is the tow driver. What on earth were any of the people involved in this RV's towing thinking about when making their decisions on how yo bring it in off the road?!? The other is WOW .... finding a full front cap with all the fixins is pretty amazing to me. No grafting, splicing or dicing. Don't know if that is SOP or dumb luck, but dang....pretty cool.
Reading the video description and viewing to timestamp 0:18, my first thought brought me back to my childhood, where I witnessed a truck camper being blown over at speed on the highway. The camper exploded like a house of cards. Though there were injuries to the occupants in the camper, none were life threatening. Soon after witnessing the accident, my Dad traded in our beloved truck and camper for an Open Road Class A, which touted a steel safety cage. FYI, we never had the chance to test the safety cage structural integrity and Open Road's safety claim. My wife and I will retire in 2 years. Viewing the channel has educated us to the build quality of diesel pushers. We are considering a Prevost XL based coach, a late 90's Newell, or a HDT RV Conversion and a stacker trailer with living quarters. We do not plan to full time RV. Rather, we plan to return to homebase mid November through early March. Recommendations or comments?
James, love your show. Are many of the wires in the Tiffin Red you're rebuilding individually labeled every few inches as they are on my 2005 Beaver Monterey ?
I’m at a loss for words why they towed it like that. They should be held liable for that damage. Totally unnecessary. I was on a simple motorcycle crash once. A HD Roadking. Guy basically rolled off the bike at slow speed, medical issue. The bike was on the front and rear crash bars. Just sitting there. Cops called a tow truck. I asked why. I put the kickstand down, walked it back and set it on the kickstand. Started it. Drove it to the shoulder. Yes, I ride. His buddies asked if they could drive it home. Officer???? Ok I guess it’s fine. Yes, it’s safe to ride. 🤦🏼. They rode it home. They should have drove that RV off the road. Use a wrecker to wheel tow it. Good luck 👍🏼
Maybe the tow company thought it was totaled, but that does not excuse the damages. I just hope they have good insurance. Well good luck on the rebuild, keep us fans posted on progress.
@@AZExpert the only loophole would be if the damages were not noted on the bill of lading. Then they could claim they did not cause the damage. Good luck
When they tow wrecked vehicles they don't hold liability for damage, so this can be a good example of a driver who may not of cared or didn't have a lot of experience.
People who are looking to buy a bus/rv should see this video. I drove an MCI for years and in an accident you destroy the front of the coach back to the front wheels
I'm going to guess this is around 60k for the repairs if not more. cheaper than replacing a new diesel pusher also with covid rv values have gone up making it harder to total these things.
Definitely would like to see updates of this. It’s amazing how they prefab the floor.. would have not ever thought they would do it like that.. good info.. thanks for the inside look.. This is part of the reason I own a Wanderlodge.
I would imagine this would be an electrical nightmare once completed things usually are not the same after being wrecked like this but your work is great definitely spot on
Looks to me a drunk woman got tired of waiting on a bay to get repairs and ran it through the bay door. She should checked if there was another coach in the that bay.....lol
So glad you shared this, really look forward to following the rebuild. I am renovating and rebuilding a 94 HR Navigator. Really interested in videos like this! Thanks again, look forward to the next one 💯
Wow, that is a monumental repair. Had to have been a write off. Interesting to see that even a coach of that name brand still could use a better build quality. I noticed that the aluminum frame work was just tacked in tbt corners. Can they not run a bead of weld ? Like come on people..
I think that's the thing that scares me about a pusher. There's not much to absorb impact from a crash. At least with a super C you have a lot of engine and frame in front to help absorb impact.
The ratchets could have been easily covered to protect the coach.... What a shame. I had to be towed out because I slide off the road in winter. Had to sign a waiver for damage liability. Tow truck driver proceed to connect to a rod on the multilink suspension. I told him he needed to wrap it around the rear suspension craddle. He said he has been doing this for a decade and and expert. I had to threaten to get another driver for him to correctly wrap around the rear suspension cradle. He later said it was a good idea, since those links he attached to bends after pulling the car out because they are weak but easy to get to 😒. Hopefully, this non towing novice taught the expert something that day. 😆
What a mess. Wires and hoses everywhere. Glad you’re involved James. Maybe you’ll take us along when you can. I’m guessing 50k to 70k in repairs. Am I close?
Wow! I'm trying to wrap my head around how they tied it down on the trailer. Should've just chained it at the frame and axles to the deck. It's not a seatainer, you don't throw straps over and cinch it down like a box, unless you like to crush things. smh
Not news to you but those tow truck straps are heavy duty and ratchet down with some incredible force. From the looks of that damage I would be very concerned about wall structure damage now. Wonder if that coach will now have a rebuild title? You know it will be sold as soon as you finish it. The next guy could be clueless of the past major damage if not. Thanks for the video. .
What an incredible project! I would love to see occasional updates from you, please. Maybe just once in a while, you have enough on your plate already. Thank you so much!

Yes, the monocoque shell is the best and worse feature of buses. Best for build, comfort, strength but worse for repair. Thanks!
Boy I'm surprised the insurance didn't total that, that has to be like atheist 60k worth of damage.
Great vid James, why didn't the insurance company just total it out?
I'll try to explain

Wow , WOW!!! What a mess, I hope no one was hurt. That's not a big job, that's a career.....
I don't think anyone was hurt. Sometimes it's fun to do projects like this....but sometimes not too!
Including the paint job and the interior work I can't believe the insurance company didn't consider it a total loss. Crazy.
I will try to explain in the next video.
The value of the Tiffen dosen't campare to the cost of repairing it. The tow company should be responsible for the paint on the sides.

They are beautiful coaches
They are my favorite diesel pushers and manufacturer.
Did he strap it down like lumber? I would be checking roof for cracks. What a hack
