Singkamas .."Turnip" in English.... One of the bests thirst quencher ... Pag nagustuhan mo ang lasa. Masarap yang isawsaw sa suka na may konting sugar.. black pepper or chili.

I know it felt so good to be with your parents in your new home in the Philippines, after a long time, isnt it? I do feel homesick here in California because it’s been 12 yrs I haven’t visit my family in Manila, especially my twin sister, but I don’t have my parents anym re, both are deceased more than 10yrs ago. At least now you enjoyed a few days in El Nido and Coron with them an I’m sure they had been very happy with you and Jonathan. See you on your next blog.

Susie, we slice the singkamas, sprinkle with vinegar, red chili, and salt. Place it in the bowl with cover and shake it to blend all ingredients together. Somehow, it taste good. I learned this from my friends. Be careful of the chili and salt. You don't like it too hot and salty. Experiment it first. You can control all the additives the way you like it. 😊

@Susie in the Philippines I hope you like it. You can do the same to the raw mango. Preferably Indian mango. The other type of mango is good too, but some people love it with shrimp bagoong. 😁

I believe Susie’s parents practice more vegetarian diet, occasional pescatarians. So that is why no balut, & Susie explained in a previous vlog that’s why she doesn’t eat balut either though she eats other Phil. eggs. Like the red ones, century eggs I think they’re called.

Singkamas is Jicama in English. It is from Mexico, brought over by the Spanish (we got its name from the ancient Nahuatl name for it - Xicamatl). Jicama is a vine, turnip is a leafy vegetable. They are not closely related at all, although the jicama is sometimes called "Mexican turnip."
