I was a Brakeman on the "J" when I worked the Porter line/East job. It was a good run I worked it regular for a while. Until it was pulled off and abandoned. Porter was our away from home terminal. The Conductors and Brakemen slept in our Caboose. The Porter run originated and terminated in Joliet IL.
Very nice. It's easy to forget how rural most of the line was.
I worked as an engineer trainee for two trips on the Porter line about 1976-77 and stayed in the bunkhouse they provided.
I grew up by the Porter Branch. By the time I went to work for the “J” it was already gone. Great memories.

I recall seeing the power tied down by the bunkhouse in the late 1970's-early 80's.
