The Panekiretanga o Te Reo is well known in amongst Hawaiian language scholars. The program has begotten much attention here over the past few years as word of its success and the resulting success of the students spreads through the Pacific. Whenever we in Hawaiian discuss the Panekiretanga o Te Reo, we always wonder what one would look like for us. I finally had enough with wondering and decided to act on it. On the 17th of February 2016, I organized a symposium where Tīmoti Kāretu, Pou Temara and five Panekiretanga and Matapunenga graduates discussed the programs. The symposium had minimum publicity, but over 100 people showed up-even flying in from other islands. By the end of the evening, it was apparent that our people wanted a Panekiretanga-like program. Knowing very well that our situation is different from those in Aotearoa, it behoves us to design a program that is tailored to our needs. In this talk I will lay out a plan that I have been tossing around over the last few weeks that will illustrate how we will begin the design process.
