- Diabolical teenage girls. Pink on Wednesdays. Endlessly quotable dialogue.
Mean Girls is a modern cult classic teen flick about Cady, a homeschooled teenage girl going to public high school for the first time, where she gets caught up in a giant web of trouble thanks to her school's resident mean girls, "The Plastics." And if one movie isn't enough for you, there was that weird sequel that no one likes...
All reviews are from the site Letterboxd. (Some reviews in this video have been edited for length.)
Background music is "Built This Way" from the Mean Girls soundtrack
Say hi to me on Twitter! / joey_tonka
Thanks for watching! I appreciate you very much! 🧡
If they killed someone in Mean Girls it won’t be Mean Girls anymore, it would be Heathers
That's just what I was about to comment lol =]
Damn. Now I want to see reviews of Heathers
I'd love Heathers movie reviews too! My favorite movie ever.
I'd say Jawbreakers is a more accurate comparison
@@baxterjaye3984 Mark Waters wrote Mean Girls, and his brother Daniel directed Heathers, so they were probably actually made to be similar.
Gretchen is, objectively, the best mean girl. The most quotable, the funniest, the most stylish. Gretchen isn’t even a mean girl, she was simply in a toxic relationship and deserved therapy. Gretchen for life.
very true
Yep and Karen wasn’t too she was just recruited and manipulated by Regina and was uneducated
Do I need to bring up the 'apology' scene? Or the fact that she was the only one who still cared about being a queen bee by the end? Gretchen is an icon, yes, but she is absolutely a mean girl as well
The most fetch
Karen too. She just got mixed up with the wrong crowd.
_"Mean Girls is to cinema what the Mona Lisa is to art"_
I honestly don't know if that was a compliment or a read but I'm obsessed with that sentence.
It was greatly influential in its sphere, but the work that came after it built on it and did it better.
@@lpchambers3681 but not mean girls 2 mean girls 2 tried to ruin it.
@@Kris-wo4pj oh my god, "Mean girls 2" what a floooppp
saying that mean girls is like the mona lisa isn't a compliment, it's a fact. mean girls 2 however.. burn it. burn it. ew. ew. ew. no.
Gretchen was and always will be my favorite mean girl, also growing up I realized I'm basically Damian
Dude SAME
Same bro
Fr
Karen was my favorite, but Gretchen still good 😌
My favorite is, all of them. Not Aaron, everyone else is PERFECT.
I didn't even know there was a sequel. It looks like I dodged a bullet if these reviews are anything to go by.
@NightshadowI0W0I oh mate, you did far more than dodge a bullet.
lucky u...i'd rather choke on my own tongue than remembering this abomination of a movie
You defo did
i have unfortunately seen it, you definitely dodged a bullet
Ye same
When I took my first psychology class in high school, the teacher just showed us movies to teach us about different psychology terms and areas. For social psychology, it was Mean Girls.
Well, what terms did you learn from Mean Girls?
@@teffley2766 how to be fuckin' mean as hell
also the effect of generational trauma
@@teffley2766 and possibly group mentality?
Like, how a person can be manipulated/changed by the people around them in a familiar feeling setting
Edit: that's not Grease
Edit 2: oh, also it's based off a teenage girl psychology book
same then we had to do a project on cliques in our own school like the lunch room scene. and i'm just like these people move the fuck around too much for this bs and just made shit up.

Stop ☠️ at 2:30 when she said “I don’t think my father, the inventor of toaster strudel would be too pleased to hear about this” I was literally going to make myself a toaster strudel- HOW DID THEY KNOW????
It was your destiny, you are now forever entwined with the mean girls, and therefor, are, a, mean, girl.
@@Sir_FireFox xD thanks for telling me this important information, I will treasure this information till the day I die.
The actual reason Cady put foot cream in the face moisturizer container is because putting foot cream on your face clogs up your pores, and since regina said she has huge pores, her clogged pores would be visible
As every day comes and goes, as the sun rises and sets, I think to myself -
Why does the sequel exist?
For money. Money money money, always the answer
Money
**in a mr krabs voice**
hello, i like money :D
Glad to see we’re all on the same page that “they should have killed someone in this movie” is just Heathers
im going as regina george for halloween (also my 14th birthday is halloween) and my dad said "natalie ur supposed to be something SCARY this year..." and i looked at him and i said "dad if you dont believe that a mean popular teenage girl is one of the most terrifying creatures on the planet then you need to reevaluate your idea of fear"
Happy birthday mate :D (it’s Halloween now) and I also know a Natalie, which is cool :)
Say it louder sis!!!!
Happy birthday! Also I love ur pfp- a yuri kinnie

Everything in this movie can be quotable, like i would be going to graduation and would say the ending dialogues about acception and everyone would think i ate.
4:20 fun fact, I actually recited this for a monologue assignment in 8th grade performing arts
I mean, Gretchen has a point so I don't blame you
one thing I like to endlessly remind my family is that two iconic, groundbreaking, amazing things came out in 2004, one being Mean Girls and the other being me (from the womb)

Also ATLA
WOWWWWWWWW self confidence joke congratulations
Same
This is the most iconic teen movie and no one can convince me otherwise
119 likes and no replies? I shall be the first. Also you are correct.
for the 2000s it is. before that was Heathers which was the same thing just with murder. so i guess we calmed down alot in a decade.
One word Heather's.
The movie Mean Girls was based off of
People who say that have obvi never seen Clueless.
No hate, I still love Mean Girls but Clueless holds a special place in my heart
@@kidkrowtaylor.ৎ I've seen both, I like Clueless too but I personally prefer Mean Girls.
Are we not going to talk about how karen smith is played by someone known for playing either smart or nerdy characters, talk about range
I love that "Mean Gorls" made me also laugh until real tears leaked from my eyes.
Exiting to say the review about Mean Girls 2 where the wifi was going out absolutely caused me to spit my coffee all over my phone, dress, own face, and kitchen countertop. I think some got in my eye. Im crying again.
the fact that my younger sister discovered Mean Girls recently and has relentlessly been trying to make "fetch" a thing 💀
I actually did learn the jingle bell rock dance with a friend cuz we were bored and kept quoting mean girls to each other 😅
Fun fact about Glenn coco : he auditioned for mean girls and got rejected then he came back the next day for food and they gave him a part hence why they do not show his face
4:20 as someone who is doing a degree in classics and has a background in ancient history, this is a surprisingly accurate description of what actually happened
“Wait, if you’re from Africa, then why are you white?”
Karen Smith 2005
I don’t know what’s sadder, the math joke, or the fact I understood the math joke
Both. Both are sad.
_”SHE DOESNT EVEN GO HERE”_ my high school yearbook quote
My calculus teacher has mentioned this movie several times, such as when talking about mathletes “we have competitions, yes like in mean girls” and, of course, limits “remember that scene in mean girls when the answer is that the limit does not exist?”
Also, there’s a mean girls 2??
I first watched the movie Mean girls in 2020, because I was only 3 years old (and I didn’t speak any English) in 2004. I actually tried watching both Mean girls movies back to back, it didn’t really work and I stopped watching the second movie after like 10 minutes or something.
wait what.
@@jc_1451 They were 3 in 2004
I thought you meant you were 3 years old in 2020 💀
@@sporkzzz same 💀💀
Why did they say it like that👀
'mean girls 2: 2 fetch 2 furious" took me outttttt
I just rewatched Mean Girls bc two friends and I are dressing up as the plastics this year for Halloween. I'm Karen and I can't wait to do the weather report
Ayy my coworkers and I are dressing up as the plastics and I'm Karen too!
I'm gonna be real and say...regina was the best girl throughout the first movie. Stan Regina for clear skin
“I only know the girl getting hit by a bus scene and thought this was a murder apocalypse movie” They might’ve been thinking about Final Destination. There’s an abrupt bus hit scene that’s kinda framed similarly. Idk lol.
I used to have this "All about you" book in elementary/middle school and it had shit like writing prompts, spaces to draw, personality quizzes, etc.
Anyway I remembered that one of the quizzes had a question that was like "What are you doing for a sleepover with your best friends?" and one of the options was make popcorn and rent a copy of Mean Girls 2
Why would I want to submit me and my best friends to that type of garbage?
Yep. Do the OG, but I feel like Mean Girls 2 is a little bit more G rated than the original, and I can watch both around my fam.
@@kidkrowtaylor.ৎ oh 100%
karen is just one of those characters i look at and go "i'm gonna steal ur gender"
As my only experience with Mean Girls was playing the crappy Episode version of it, I'm sure this video will be very educational. I need to watch these movie soon.
Edit: Ok, so what I've learned is that the sequel is garbage, but I still want to watch it so I have the knowledge it was bad.
Absolutely not! There's more to life than this shitty sequel!
The sequel is like if a child sat on an antique vase, then tried to glue it back together and threw some glitter at it. You are missing out on nothing.
how did ya like the sequel?
teenage girls are the toughest humans on the planet tho. the shit they go through in those few years while still having the energy to care about literally anything else kinda blows me away.
Wow, you’re pretty cool for saying that
9:16 Why did she throw her dog in the trash though ??? 😭😭😭
4:46 I don't remember the character's name, but she was definitely channeling the spirit of Caseus that day
Gretchen Wiener

Karen was my favourite mean girl. and when I was 10 I tried to learn the jingle bell rock dance. this movie is a 200's legend
My favorite is Gretchen, she's iconic
I didn't know that the movie was a remake of something from the 200s.
4:57 the usage of "that that" is killing me
I'm secretly scared that if I ever met Danny Devito I would before my brain could wake up yell "OH MY GOD Danny Devito I love your work!!!!"
The apology to Rachel Mcaddams on got me

Maybe legally blonde movies next?
YES!

Honestly what Regina always needed was for people to be aggressive back to her. And that's what she got out of lacrosse.
I love how Jo’s actor is also a “mean girl” in camp rock
2:00 I think she just wanted Regina to break out lol
3:52 STOP BECAUSE IM IN A HEATHERS PHASE AND I LEARNED HEATHER CHANDLERS CHOREOGRAPHY TO CANDY STORE AND I FORCED MY FRIEND TO LEARN MACNAMARA’S
I died at “2fetch 2furious”
I watched this in school music class because the teacher had nothing to do and it changed my life
There's so many levels of genius to this movie but one I never see people talk about is how Cady imagines all of the students as the animals in africa around the watering hole and the thesis of the psychology/parenting book about clique and bullying behavior of teenage girls that was the direct inspiration for mean girls basically boils down to it being a modern day human manifestation of like basic animal instincts involving mate selection and intrasexual competition
I'm slightly disappointed this did not include the musical
I love this movie but there's so much uncomfortable stuff about rewatching it. The racism, body shaming, and homophobia is just cringeworthy. That being said how does one choose their favorite plastic?
I like Karen. I like the dumb ones.
that cafeteria scene where regina said the r slur..
That’s kind of the point in my opinion. Mean girls is like a normal high school, just dramatized so it will be interesting for viewers. Mean Girls doesn’t sugarcoat high school and those things are very real in high schools and I think removing those things would be unrealistic in the opposite way the movie is meant to be.
@@aruzhanabilova Ikr, it wasn’t really considered a slur when it was made though
@@Lilahlove17 fr i love rewatching it cause it still holds up in the present
I never knew there was a sequel, and I wish I hadn’t
Karen was always my favorite- I thought she was really pretty and doll-like when I first watched it 😳
For halloween i dressed up as damian in his iconic blue hoodie and sunglasses and told anyone who asked what i was that i was "to gay to function" and so i basically came out to everyone in my southern neighborhood
1:19 nearly choked on my drink as I heard this being read.
I audibly said "What what?" out loud when Mean Girls 2 came up
24FramesOfNick just casually on there lmao
As funny as it is to to see him there, 24FramesOfNick is garbage and his videos disgusts me.
1:34 24 FRAMES OF NICK YASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LITERALLY MY FAV CONTENT CREATOR😭
I watched the film and it was great. The film really showed how some girls are very popular and are capable of starting drama. No one needs drama in their lives.
7:03 really gagged me , amazing video.
In an interview, Jo’s actress says that the movie was shot in less than a month (20 days if I recall correctly) and at least it explains a tiny bit on why this movie sucked, but a majority of it was just because the writing was terrible, the acting was cringe, and it completely ignored the point of the first Mean Girls film. Mean girls showcased how teenage girls use psychological warfare to get what they want and to be popular, which they compare to the animal kingdom and how ruthless it is. Mean Girls 2 ended up being a bad Disney Channel movie. The new plastics are supposed to be the most fashionable girls in school but they just look like 5 year old girls going to an Easter Sunday church service. There’s no subtlety to how they’re mean to people. It’s not smart. It’s just very cliche Wattpad bully energy or how Raquelle was in that Barbie Diaries movie. The main character Jo is the complete opposite of what Cady was. Cady was an innocent teen girl introduced to the hierarchy and functions of high school and fell into the wrong crowd which made her addicted to popularity which in turn made her realize how similar the animal kingdom is to high school. Jo may as well have just worn a sign that said “I’m not like other girls.” instead of random characters audibly trying to convince the audience that Jo is quirky and unique and badass. Smh, Tess Tyler should have kept her shenanigans at Camp Rock.
The four split phone call made me think of Bratz so much
I just realized I am the enby version of Damian and that makes me happy
I remember thinking about a comic series where the Heathers and Mean Girls met but out of i guess genuine pity-both trios took in the main character to make them better
Mean girls 2 gives the vibe of a 10 year old trying to be popular and vulgar and edgy but not understanding a thing.
Regina George invented the definition of mean girls back in the early 2000s. Heathers own the 1900s
I don't think even satan would want the sequel on his resume
Okay, I did NOT expect the Silent Hill siren
My PC literally crashed at 6:28 and i had to restart it... Mean Girls 2 broke my PC
That's how bad it is!
every one of your videos, i find a sequel i never knew about, even if i watched literally every other part of the series
THE SOUNDTRACK IN THE BACKGROUND STOPPPP
I never knew there was a sequel- apparently there is
i was watching mean girls when you posted this.
I have never seen this movie. I do not intend to see this movie. But nothing will top the moment when I learned my college professor father saw this in theaters when it came out and enjoyed it a lot.
I still have indiscernible emotions when I think about it.
In my opinion, mean girls 2 doesn't exist and i have choosen to ignore it's existence like how boots ignores the existence of that Spanish speaking toucan
I was tricked into confronting the existence of a movie i have physically refused to acknowledge exists, the treachery, im going to need a brain wipe./j
This made me remember a long lost memory about Dora The Explorer. Thank you, I will now watch it again for the funsies
I have chosen to believe it's nothing more than another low budget cheesy Disney movie. Which I also tend to ignore.
I still sometimes say "that's so fetch!" in my head and I can't do anything about it
Mean Girls could have come out a month ago and still be relevant to the times
6:12 they just want heathers honestly
Fr
You know what, I'm gonna subscribe. I've watched so many of these videos.
Never stop judging, you crazy kids.
Thanks for subscribing! :)
heathers totally feels like a parody of mean girls, it actually amazes me that it's older
1:39 yooo 24frames of Nick! I watch that guy
When you forget mean girls actually had a sequel... I'mma just repress that.
8:08 how grandparents say they went to school
I’ve literally only seen one part of this movie, and it’s Regina getting hit by the bus. Because my mom was just watching it on tv and I happened to be in the room for just enough time to see only that part.
The schoolbus is the first generation of the isekai bus
Person: they should have killed someone in this movie
Director of heather’s: your wish is my command
If you too think that it would have been better if they killed someone, I offer you heathers and jawbreaker
They deliver the mean girls with murder story we crave
thank you for the video!!!! i would love to see percy jackson movies reviews
me and my friend go around just saying “Glenn coco” in some weird accent at school sometimes.
I can’t get this notifications I did it get this review ahhh also you should do heathers
Hey, love your videos!
Thank you so much!
6:14 no, I watched this with friends and we all had a discussion at the end concluding that the other kids should have cast Regina George out socially for all she's done to those people. We knew several kids who were like abusive to other kids in their friendships always digging up dirt. When you stop paying attention to them, they stop being a problem. It's mean but what is it compared to the crimes of Regina?
I somehow forgot that the sequel existed and it was nce this way...
I considered myself lucky not to know of the sequel's existence until I got out of highschool
Mean girls really is such a holiday movie
All I'm gonna say is that everyone who says Regina is the most evil creature ever obviously hasn't seen Heather Chandler
5:40 I would watch Median, Mode, etc. girls.
I'd love to see you read movie reviews for the Bring It On franchise, especially since they just released a 7th one
I'll add it to my to-do list!
i just watched nine minutes and 32 seconds of a videos, i regret half of that video, i was foolishly charmed into watching a movie review of the beloved cinematic master peace knows as Mean Girls, i was expecting only the elegance from such a beautiful film, yet what happened next has me so distraught, after around the half way mark, they started the reviews for the film i have avoided for all my life, not to know its plot, its characters, who acts in it, i was shown the horror, that is Mean Girls 2, i cant believe this, who would trick unsuspecting viewers into learning of the existence of something that is a disgrace to cinematography.
all of this is over dramatized except my hatred for Mean Girls 2.
I am so sorry 😞 I will be jailing myself for these crimes I have committed
6:13 IS THAT A HEATHERS REFERENCE?!
“I feel like this movie would be better if they killed someone”
Oh boy,Do I have the movie/musical for you, DYL
