26:34 I hear DVRKCLOUD - Desolation in the background there. What a tune! so underrated

Definitely, I put it there cause it’s lowkey background music for me, even though it’s a pretty intense song

Just saying Blackmill has some absolutely amazing chillstep songs that I'd say are better examples than his Ellie Goulding remix, check out Spirit Of Life or Let It Be for example.

They’re pretty good for 2011, it’s just not my style cause I have no nostalgia for it

@@TopBeatsEDM yeah that's understandable, those songs have helped me study for so many exams that they have a special place in my heart now lol

Hey guys, loved this video. I got into EDM in 2017 and could literally spend hours going into all the ins and outs of what songs shaped my tastes and where things are going. But just a few key thoughts:
Some of my ‘gateway’ songs into Melodic Dubstep were Underneath by Synchronice (ua-cam.com/video/rGJoeQ8SMLI/v-deo.html) and Tell Me by Take Five (ua-cam.com/video/Kx1QIlGmhPo/v-deo.html). Both these songs aren’t really strictly melodic dubstep, but they introduced me to elements of EDM that carry over into melodic dubstep. As a side note I think these songs hold up really well today (and AERYN is a massively underrated vocalist, I wish she could get exposure with bigger artists).
I also remember stumbling across Reverie by Illenium, which absolutely blew me away - I hadn’t heard anything like it, and still remains a favourite for me today. There was something so inventive and energising about those earlier Illenium tracks that sadly I don’t see in his current output.
I found Seven Lions through Spotify radio, which served me up Falling Away, which again I absolutely loved on first listen and still treasure to this day. The funny thing is that track gave me the expectation that Seven Lions was primarily a progressive house artist. Once I dug into his catalogue, I realised that wasn’t the case, but I do love how he can so easily blend and experiment with different genres.
Shoutout to Top Beats for mentioning Hold by Dabin, an absolute classic.
My hopes for the years to come:
    (1) We continue to see the genre move forward, expand, and grow rather than fizzle out.
    (2) This is just my personal take, but I hope we see a return to some of the more positive, happy & uplifting vibes we saw from Seven Lions and Illenium in 2016-2018. I’m all for ‘sad’ emotional tracks, but I do think they need to be balanced out uplifting / happy vibes too. For example, I feel Illenium struck this balance perfectly on Ashes and Awake (songs like Reverie, Its All On U, Only One, Feel Good and Where’d U Go), whereas for me Ascend is so sad and depressing through most of the album that I find myself rarely listening to it unfortunately.
This comment is already way too long, so I’ll finish by saying I’d happily listen to more long form conversations with you guys in the future 👍

I love talking about EDM in general and could definitely talk to someone interested, about my fav songs for hours.
I think it's pretty common that peoples gateway songs to melodic dubstep were future bass, I don't specifically remember the songs that helped me find melodic dubstep, but I remember listening to Tell Me in 2016 that song is such a banger.
Illenium has definitely lost his charm, and I agree reverie is honestly top 5 best illenium songs.
I honestly don't mind the sad tracks and I think there a lot of smaller artists making happy tracks, but I can understand how the more iconic songs have this same sad boi feel to it, because that's what's popular atm.
I love receiving long comments so this comment is great, and yeah we'll probably do more things like this as we already have a collab coming up

@@TopBeatsEDM Cheers man, thanks for the reply. Totally get you about the sadder songs being popular, for me it’s definitely a personal taste thing. Looking forward to more videos in the future 👍
