- Hello guys, on youtube there are many beautiful creations of neopixel leds matrix, generally 16x16 or at most 32x32.
In this video I wanted to make something bigger, huge and I decided to buy 9 neopixel 16x16 matrices for a total of 2304 neopixel led all controlled by a ESP32-WRROM-32 microcontroller.

Great project and very unique for a neopixel matrix project.
I have set up my WLED build with some buttons that change the LED color to a color specified in WLED presets. Do you know of any way that I could configure WLED presets so that a specific pixelart picture is displayed when I press a button?

I ask as the main issue I've had is saving images as presets at 48*48 resolution and being able to recall them reliably.

Probably because the guy needs to invest in a decent microphone. His matrices are not glued nice and square, the gaps are not even, and there are glitches in the animations. Also there is dead pixel on one of the matrices. All these things bring down the quality of the video. Other than those, it's ok.

I see from your videos that you appear to use LED strips to illuminate your background and provide practical lighting. (This look very good, BTW!) I am trying to do a similar thing, but I find that the colors (particularly Blues and Purples) tend to be over-saturated.
Could you do a video where you show your lighting setup and explain how you manage to get such good color balance? (Failing that, explain it here! 😀)

edit : my theory is that each square are not isolated enough so light from agencent LED blend together
Hello, It's a video shooting problem. to get a good view I had to move the camera closer and therefore the area in focus is very small.
This answers a big question I've been wondering about for a project I want to do about if multiple matrices can be wired together. Though I gotta ask, why is the LED panel in the links so dirt cheap compared to others I've seen in videos? I wanna make a pixel wall to put over a large window to play scenes I'll make so I'm concerned about buying the right gear such as controllers, power sources, and ofcourse LEDs.
there are two kind of matrices that should not be confused. the wled matrices like the one in the video and then there are the rgb led matrices which have their own controller and a much narrower pitch between the pixels. The quality result is really different

Excuse me then for asking as I've yet to hear/see this distinction mentioned in videos I've seen but what do you refer to in regards to quality(brightness, power distribution, etc.)? Cause I'm tempted to buy 20+ of these panels you linked in the description and wire them up to a controller and call it a day so I can focus on making animations(not GIFs, I wanna showcase a few ballet performance animations I'll make from scratch that'll run for 3-5 minutes each).
Great video and I love the 3D printed grid. One question since I'm a novice at 3D printing. How do you stop printing to change colors from the white base to the black grid?
Hello Ray, I use prusa slicer or Cura, in both software there is a function to pause the printer after x layers… when the printer is in pause, I change the filament and then I restart the printer..

hi david, you can find the .stl file of the grid in the description. you must print the first layer in white and the crime in black. you need to put a pause command at the end of the first layer in your slicer. if you look at the comments, another user invented a system to get better diffusion by setting the slicer.

I have been able to send a single image to WLED using a converter to get the JSON code. Is there a simple line or two of code I can put in after that to have that image display for x amount of time and then go to a different one to create an animation? I could make a preset of each image, but you are limited to cycling between presets at .2 second intervals so only 5 frames per second.

@@boomytech7504 I used the pixel art converter. It only does one image at a time, and you have to make the presets yourself. I have seen another tool that will work with GIFS and make a preset for each frame and puts them all in a playlist. This would speed up the process for animations but it is still 1 preset per frame so it will eat up your presets fast, and you are limited to 5 frames per second.
@boomytech7504 I did some experimenting with this and got some cool results. I originally printed the matrix with white filament for the diffuser layers, and black for the matrix, which of course had the same result as yours and worked great, so thank you for your work on it.
However, then I printed a couple more times with clear filament for the diffuser layers and experimented with different layer settings and bed surfaces.
The best (and my favorite) was when I printed the diffuser layers with clear filament on a textured PEI build plate. Using an ALIGNED RECTILINEAR layer pattern, which in Cura settings is called lines under Top and Bottom Pattern with 1 selected as the number of lines. This made the diffuser act like a sort of lens for each pixel.
By using the textured build plate, the diffuser was translucent instead of clear, but the rectilinear line pattern still acted like sort of a lens that really brightened the pixels, especially when looking at it straight on. Printing on a smooth build plate kind of worked also, but it didn't look anywhere near as good to me.
The rest of the matrix was printed in black, so there is still the pixel separation and big square pixels, but they are much more vibrant and brighter, almost sparkling. In fact, I had to turn the brightness down quite a bit. Each pixel also has a cool lens warp effect.
I am very happy that you completed this project with satisfaction. It's fantastic that you had the idea of using translucent material and it's certainly a suggestion for everyone who decides to carry out this project. Thank you very much for sharing this beautiful idea of yours.
What do you mean 1 selected as number of lines?
@ In Cura for the layer pattern I chose ALIGNED RECTILINEAR layer pattern and selected number of lines to 1. When I tried with 2 or more for the number of lines, the pattern was kind of crisscross and diagonal which also works but looks different. in experimenting, by selecting 1 it made the pattern even rows of parallel lines. The result with the clear filament was almost like a lens that still diffused the light, but sort of amplified it in the center of each square. It was pretty cool, and even looked brighter when looking at it head-on versus from an angle because of the lens effect.

Hi again, I just take a look of my fusion project... the single matrix is 160x160.. I understand that two at once is too big for your printer bed, but I suggest you to print one by one...each print takes time and is safer one at a time
