    a300 also has greater functionality (2 RCA inputs, sub output with high pass crossover, tone controls, remote, bluetooth, dac) but really importantly: it has an internal power supply. I just got a v3 too and am really impressed.
    Great review, as always!

    Glad to see you back here. You are my favorite audio reviewer! It is very difficult to describe the esoteric qualities of audio. You excel in providing relatable impressions in a clear and sensible manner.
    I bought the V3 a couple of months ago not expecting much but I am pleasantly surprised by the clarity and neutral sound of this tiny box. I listen almost exclusively to jazz and classical, especially classical piano. I have been using it with a Schiit Modi DAC and paired it with a bunch of speakers (I have lots) but I really like it with a pair of DCM CX-17s (old but really nice). I can't believe the value of this little guy. You can't go wrong with an amp that sounds this good for the money. I spend more money on a single transformer or tube for some of my home built amps and quite frankly the Fosi V3 put some of my efforts to shame. Time to start opamp rolling. I bought a second one so I can do a 1:1 comparison to the stock opamps.
    Keep up the good work!

    Thank you for your honest and detailed review! I also subscribed! Even though I didn't need it I just purchased the Fosi Audio V3 with the 48v power supply and the orange knob. Fosi Audio had a 20% off sale so it was a great value at $95.99 USD with free shipping. Best Wishes!

    It would be nice / interesting if you could test Aiyima's new A07 Max amplifier. It is a direct competitor to Fosi V3, but it has "bridge mode" and you can use two (2) units as Monoblock amplifiers. It would be very interesting to know your opinion about this little Class D Monoblocks, and how much difference does it make in the music's Dynamic Range VS a single Fosi V3

    Glad to see you back! Totally agree with you about the 48v power supply. Very noticeable difference in sound quality. I didn't need the extra power but it just adds better sonics. I got the 32v and ordered the 48v after the fact for around $50. I was able to do a direct comparison. Shocked how good this little amp sounds! Even the $140 I ended up spending for it with the added power supply I would have gladly paid double or more. I think it sounds that good. Very warm and punchy and full bass mids and treble in all the right places. I'm driving Mirage OM9 large tower omnidirectional speakers with it in my living room. No need for a subwoofer. I'm very pleased! Bargain is accurate!!!

Watched this at my PC in my little study, with the audio from the Fosi V3, SU-1, and a pair of Dali Oberon 1 (excellent small bookshelf speakers, which have been criticized for being a little bright). Your conclusion was absolutely spot on, thanks for the review!

    You asked about Blu-Ray. I have flatscreen in a small TV room (under 2000 cu.ft.) that I occasionally watch a movie, but more often audio/video concert footage. Since I am wrapped up in stereo in other parts of the house, I bought a nice Yamaha HDMI surround sound bar with a subwoofer out and added a subwoofer. Long story short, I got it set up and sounding good; I had an old DVD player connected to the analog input on the TV, but then it died and I needed a player, so I bought a $75 LG Blu-ray player on Amazon that plays DVDs, or any CD in that size disc. I’ve been using that and it’s working great hooked into one of the HDMI inputs on the TV and plays through soundbar/sub system nicely. Even came with an HDMI cable. My super budget HT system, lol, of which can still be purchased for around $400 to $500 (not including the TV). I was lucky I got it all in for under $300 delivered through Amazon, and I didn’t buy everything at the same time, waiting for the right deal. Things seem to have changed in the last few years.
    It seems like getting great deals on subs is hard to come by these days.

    Hi Srbo!
    Great seeing you at work again 💪💪💪
    Nice little amp, I would say, lots of hype about it on YT. It does seem very limited in options (like a lot of similar Chinese products), but almost all YT reviewers agree on it's unusually good sound for the money.
    Nice to have heard your suggestion for the system, since I actually lack only the V3 to complete it 😂😂😂😂.
    Anyways, very nice and balanced review, as usual. Looking forward to seeing your next reviews.

    Great video, I purchased the SMSL A300 based on one of you reviews and it's indeed a great amp bettering my trusted Mission Cyrus 1. I also purchased tha SMSL A0200 mk2 but found it was plagued with a faint high pitched noise in the background, this wasn't acceptable with my sensitive speakers, really annoying. I returned this unit and a replacement was sent but it too suffered from this issue. I returned the replacement and bought another SMSL A300 and at some point I will bridge them. I whish I held back for this review as I would have been tempted to by the fosi.

Also do yu plan in swapping in the sparkos or any different op amps? I've got opa 1622 in mine at the moment. deffo a step u from stock. others to try are opa2604, opa 1656 to mention a couple!

  • @NeilBlanchard
    @NeilBlanchard Рік тому +6

    I *think* that the Sparkos SS3602 discrete op-amps fit in the V3, and I am fairly certain that it will take its sound quality up a notch or three. They obviously will add to the cost.

    • @Douglas_Blake_579
      @Douglas_Blake_579 Рік тому

      The two op-amps in the V3 are working as unity gain phase splitters for the TPA3255's balanced inputs. With unity gain, you can't expect much change or improvement by swapping op-amps. Fosi has promised "no fakes" for the NE5532 chips, so you should be good to go.
      I've tried my trusty old RC4558s and TL072s in the V3 (and A07). I can't confirm by testing since the difference is very slight, but they do seem to bring out the lower bass a bit more... and at less than $1.00 each, it's a pretty safe thing to try.

    • @MiguelAngelVelazquez
      @MiguelAngelVelazquez 11 місяців тому

      @@Douglas_Blake_579sorry to disagree but if you look at the TPA3255 datasheets you will find that the chip has a gain of 21.5dB, and measurements on the V3 have shown it has 26.5 dB. So the opamps provide 5dB extra gain. This is the reason why this amplifier uses 2 dual Opamps, otherwise they could get away with 1 dual opamps if its function were to create an inverted signal for Left and Right channels
      Now, would I spend $160 on those 2 Sparkos?. There are other good candidates for a fraction of that price:OPA1656 or OPA1612 on DIP8 adapters.
      On other amplifiers like Aiyima A07, A07 Pro or Max the total gain is even higher, 29dB. This means the opamps provide 7.5dB of extra gain. Therefore the opamp Rolling has a greater effect on those amplifiers.

    • @FrancoisLeopold
      @FrancoisLeopold 11 місяців тому +3

      Eventually I will try the Sparkos in mine. I’m convinced it can turn the V3 into a serious audiophile contender. Who cares if one op-amp costs as much as the amp if you end up with a wonderful sounding amp for 300$? It’s still ultra cheap by audiophile standards.
      I’ve decided to go first for the Oracle 02 op-amps. And I will see from there.

    I love your channel, and have turned a lot of people on to it. I am wondering if you would pop a couple Sparkos in that V3 amp and the Topping E50 and give us an update? I bought a few V3’s the other day to use with a miniDSP active system. I was in the industry for 21 years and have had really high end gear, but am pretty amazed at what one can get for such low dollars. I got the Topping E50 and the SU9 based on your recommendations, but have this low cost gear buying affliction (Ha!), so now have 3 V3’s. I own 1976 Cornwalls that I will mod to “Cornscalas,” and they are extremely unforgiving to sources, but all the gear I’ve mentioned works great with them. Buying these inexpensive Chifi gear and loving it is like finding an excellent wine for $15 bucks. I’m going to start my journey of tube rolling soon. I’ll get some Burr Browns: Opa2134s, Op1656s, Opa1612, and then the Sparkos a little later for the grand finale. Thank you for what you do! Peace!

      The lrs needs a lot of current !!. a used adcom 555-ll is perfect for the lrs, forget about the fosi. The adcom can put out 800 watts in 2 ohms, they don’t make amps like that anymore

    • @geevee1045
      @geevee1045 9 місяців тому

      Agreed. The budget friendly class AB amps from years ago are true power houses with heavy current output and ability to drive low impedance loads. Amps like the Adcom you mentioned, Threshold, Mondial, Gas Ampzilla, McCormack, Aragon, etc. They all had huge power supply sections with 2000VA transformers, which are very expensive to produce today. The cheap amps today regardless of Class type can't compete.@@cbayardelle

      This could be for a couple of reasons ...
      First what is the impedance of that bookshelf speaker ... if it dips under about 3.5 ohms the TPA3255 could be running into it's internal current limiting.
      Second there is the issue of speaker placement. You might accidentally have the bookshelf speakers in a bad spot for bass during your tests.

    Yesterday my M-Audio AV40s died after 14 years and I enjoyed the way they sounded, no complaints. It was good enough for me. I ended up buying the Fosi V3 and the Elac Debut 5.2 which fit within my budget. I haven't got them yet but you made me get real excited, I can't wait to hear them. I don't have a DAC yet, so I might order the one you recommended at some point. Since I'm using them for my PC, my motherboard has a somewhat decent and shielded DAC built in so I'm hoping they'll sound good enough for what I need. But i'm also curious to see how the S.M.S.L SU-1 would sound as well. Not really sure what to do there. Its only $67 on amazon might be worth the investment.

    I've been listening to this amp with the 48v for two months and I'm very, very surprised. Silence, once connected, is absolute. At first I couldn't believe that sound could fill my 40-square-meter music room. I have, thanks to Srboljub, an Rpi2aes light and a SMSL D0 200 MK II DAC that acts also as a preamp to manage the volume and the V3 at its maximum volume. I still use my old REGA ELA MKIII speakers, awaiting replacement for the Falcon Q7 kit...
    I read and read about the possibility of swapping out op amps, and eventually decided to swap out the original op-amps in favor of the humble-priced Opa1622. To hear is to believe. In a few days, the sound became more transparent, more timbral, softer and easier to hear and over all, the soundstage is now more wide and precise.
    I must say that the original op-amps are really clung like a bird of prey to the base and have been deformed when removed. My clumsiness, but have read other people have had the same problem. Given how it sounds now, I don't regret it much.
    Now, Fosi is about to launch his First Dual-Mode Balanced Amplifier ZA3... I'd like to try them in a pair of monoblocks, but I don't like to much the way they are placing switches, etc. I was expecting a pair of nice monoblocks as simple as the V3 but without knobs...

    By Measurement ...
    32 volt supply ... 50w rms per channel on 8 ohms, 95 w/ch on 4 ohms with less than 0.1% distortion. 1.2v input for clipping
    48 volt supply ... 100w rms per channel on 8 ohms, 180 w/ch on 4 ohms with less than 0.3% distortion. 2.2v input for clipping
    The gain is fixed, so switching power supplies won't make it louder, but it will give you more headroom before clipping starts.
    If you want to know what the TPA3255 chip can do, cut it loose on a pair of "workhorse" speakers like the Heresy or L-100 ... it's a real treat. Drives most towers to surprising volume.

    That’s a great review. I have two Fosi V3s on the way, and I’m going to try them in my main system which is DIY horn speakers (think Klipsch LaScala on steroids, 105dB average sensitivity) bi-amped with active crossover.
    I’m genuinely interested in trying these little cheap marvels in more upmarket / demanding system rather than the usual « 79$ DAC, 200$ speakers ».
    I’m a strong believer that with a little care (and a change of op amps, really in a revealing system such as mine NE5532 sound like crap especially the cheap versions used by Chinese companies) and in the right system (one that doesn’t put any strain on the amplifier) well designed tiny amps like this one can be extremely satisfying.
    I have four Oracle 02 OM-amps on the way to replace the NE5532.

    What would you suggest as a good step up from the V3 for better bass control and clarity? It sounds better than my BT20Apro, but lacks the kick. While it does have more low end than the AO200, it just sounds a little muddy to me. The V3 48v5a is currently paired with an SMSL D-6 and SVS Ultra Bookshelf.

      Hi - I bought V3 with additional opamps - and whilst taking the originals out was not fun - I was happy with the alteration in sound - and the opamps I put in came via FOSI - and I believe they are OPA2604. I have tube preamps - and recently, I have gone toward budget near-field setups - as my main stuff is back in Europe. I settled on a preamp with Mullards as tubes and rectifier with the V3. Speakers are extremely sensitive single drivers ( Maybe not the best with such a meaty little amp.). I was delighted with the sound of this setup. I like some tube colouration, I think - and the FOSI is maybe surgically neutral (ergo, perhaps too good - for me!). Certainly, a dynamic set-up - and I feel more naturalistic, more 'rounded' than before - for me it became way more engaging to listen to. I put the preamp volume high - meaning the FOSI must be low - maybe I am doing that wrong ... I Apologise if this is all word salad - as it is hard to describe hifi - but it changed, and I liked the new sound! Take care. @@computeraudiophile9590
