I got to know Thomas this year because I live quite close to him and he is still obsessed with playing the guitar 18years later and guitar and amp tone. Seems like a really nice guy.
Guys, i've been a lover of the guitar in all its forms for over 25 years. Blues, Jazz, metal, Rock, Folk and just about all the legends that you would associate with the above genres. I'VE ONLY JUST FOUND THIS GUY! HOLY SHIT! What vibe. What style. What thechnique. Ice cool.
I stumbled across Thomas and his music a few years ago while guitar amp shopping. I was looking at the H & K amps and Thomas represents them. I have since purchased most of his CD's. He is truly one of the world's top guitar players, but because of the genre he plays and his location, he is truly a hidden gem.
I stumbled across him through his brilliant Hughes & Kettner demos too, but I wouldn't say I was amp shopping - more like *fantasy* amp shopping! Such a complete player. Such dynamic range and texture in his playing!
indeed. that was when I'm just 16yr old boy :), I saw him live at Surabaya, Indonesia for H&K promotional event.. I learn from him how to be brave with only a built-in amp overdrive + delay + whammy bar. what a nice experience!
I listen to this song and it reminds me of my mate whom I discovered guitar together, we'd listen to Thomas Blug all day trying to play what he played. He died in 2000. R.I.P. This song brings back memories...
I haven't heard Thijs Van Leer since the Focus albums (which I still own and listen to) but his playing is still recognizably him after all these years. Beautiful song. beautiful players.
At the beginning it makes me almost wanna sail to Philadelphia along with Mark... ;) I love Thomas playing and also a very likeable guy. Saw him twice on the Musikmesse. :)
Yeah, I guess he is the best guitar player in the world. I saw him on my dads birthday party, with his other band, dreist. It was like this - just amazing!
@BostonWidowers No, it is a Fender! His signature Vintage guitar is the cheap one. He plays the original, a Fender Strat from 1961. He made several modifications on this one and the Vintage is the copy of it. But when Thomas plays live, he uses his original.
I love how inaccurate the introduction is: there is nothing unpolished in Thomas playing :-) the dynamics are phenomenal, the technic is spot on, the guitar sound is perfect (he helps developing this Hughes and Kettners amps he plays).
Naja, is´wie immer einfach Geschmacksache. ;o)
Isn't this from his hit album "I Got Bad Blug Balls". And isn't that the Skipper from Gilligan's Island (in his later years) playing the B3? Friggen awesome playin'
Thomas, is the strat king, love your music, and my new Blue amp1, can’t say enough about this amp, sold my Marshall head and use the 412 angled cab for speaker, all my friends love the sound to. It is basically the same tone at moderate volume as it is loud, try that with other amps🎸🎸
WHY don't camera operators LEARN to fully feature the actual player playing the solo...e.g lovely keyboard solo but the camera soon fades to the bass man OR the guitarists chords even the drummer while he's doing his stuff...? Just an opinion!
yeah but see they all started playing at a reaaaaally early age.... this guy started playing with 14-15 years and had like 10 jazz guitar lessons in his whole life...

Dude, there's a long long time that i dont see a refreshing guitar player like Thomas Blug.
Unfortenatly he is ... And he´s a wonderful Person ! ! ! !
I stumbled across him through his brilliant Hughes & Kettner demos too, but I wouldn't say I was amp shopping - more like *fantasy* amp shopping! Such a complete player. Such dynamic range and texture in his playing!
I found him the same way, watching amp reviews, etc. What a fantastic discovery.
indeed. that was when I'm just 16yr old boy :), I saw him live at Surabaya, Indonesia for H&K promotional event.. I learn from him how to be brave with only a built-in amp overdrive + delay + whammy bar. what a nice experience!
He's absolutely up there among the best..!!! Love he's feeling..!!
I listen to this song and it reminds me of my mate whom I discovered guitar together, we'd listen to Thomas Blug all day trying to play what he played. He died in 2000. R.I.P. This song brings back memories...
Sorry about your friend God bless you be with Jesus brother
I haven't heard Thijs Van Leer since the Focus albums (which I still own and listen to) but his playing is still recognizably him after all these years. Beautiful song. beautiful players.
maybe one of the best instrumental guitar songs ever!
nice to actually "hear" some great guitar playing...great tone..great lines...great feel...a new favorite guitar player...
Definitely, one of the greatest electric guitarist period.!!!
I just love how he sounded with the H&K tri amp. What a tone.
At the beginning it makes me almost wanna sail to Philadelphia along with Mark... ;) I love Thomas playing and also a very likeable guy. Saw him twice on the Musikmesse. :)
Never heard of this guy until now... What a great performance!!
Sweet mercy this is the best song.....Clubbing and this one are my favorites from this wonderful fretboard technician....
Absolutely gorgeous.. Really enjoyed that track !
Geil! Ich habe das damals auch live gesehen. Phänomenaler Sound!
Nicest vibrato I've ever heard. I swear I saw him walking about Edinburgh last year Xmas shopping and then later in a bar.
I had never heard of this guy.. Hes great.
I wish the No Way to Istanbul video were on youtube. It's on the dvd.
Absolutely wonderful !
Oh God, his Strat tone is as thick that he could wear it as a coat, I'm thrilled!
Oh my.... this is awesome
beautiful composition and performance !.. you rock, Thomas !... :)
absolutely incredible guitar player

Came for blug, stayed for van leer!
Very tasty music. Indeed he's playing a Fender strat in stead of the Vintage. Though, those Vintage strats also sound very good !
I love how inaccurate the introduction is: there is nothing unpolished in Thomas playing :-) the dynamics are phenomenal, the technic is spot on, the guitar sound is perfect (he helps developing this Hughes and Kettners amps he plays).
Beautiful!
He´s a great guitar player but man, what an awesome band!!!
+Jimi Hendrix Unbedingt live anschauen! Habe ihn neulich mit "Blug plays Hendrix" gesehen..... Unfassbar!
Exelente Thomas Blug.-
That organ run slaps 🔥 kinda like santanas organ players 👏

What I would give to be able to play like that...
Warum hört man von dir nicht mehr ?? Mal was Neues ?
Great guitarist !
sorry for your loss, man...
So verdammt sexy...... Music und Player ;)
Nice Thomas🙃
Isn't this from his hit album "I Got Bad Blug Balls". And isn't that the Skipper from Gilligan's Island (in his later years) playing the B3?

Genius
The guy in keyboards is THIS VAN LEER from Focus?
Yes
2:20 is he tuning his guitar WHILE PLAYING ???
Nice…….🎸
@BostonWidowers guess it's his original fender, definitely not the vintage sig. model (watch 4:38 headstock) and not a mex strat
He plays en original Fender 61
¿😲 Está con Tjis Van Leer en teclado...?
Plus, he knows how to use his vibrato properly.
Steve Vai's tone with a single coil Strat...OMG
is this This Van Leer on Hammond ?
Thomas, is the strat king, love your music, and my new Blue amp1, can’t say enough about this amp, sold my Marshall head and use the 412 angled cab for speaker, all my friends love the sound to. It is basically the same tone at moderate volume as it is loud, try that with other amps🎸🎸
Thjis Van Leer \o/
Tasty!❤

Don't think that would be the camera man's fault. More the person who's editing it!
Nice
only one problem with this guy... im gonna have one fuck of a time trying to get his music here in the states
Try Amazon
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Awe... he's all filled with Hocus Pocus
Thijs van Leer at the organ ???
Francis K
Yes
8:12 It remembers me Steve Vai
I'm watching this only because of Thijs Van Leer.
My amp is like his, half the lights is burnt out :P
yeah but see they all started playing at a reaaaaally early age.... this guy started playing with 14-15 years and had like 10 jazz guitar lessons in his whole life...
SEVEN BEIBER FANS!!
240p , haha...nice song!
looks like Andy Timmons look-alike in both the music and the person
WOWZER ! I guess I'm going to grow up.
;)
