  • Rowland Ricketts is a contemporary fiber artist who creates immersive site-specific installations using handwoven and hand-dyed cloth and yarn. His approach follows the long history of art’s engagement with the natural world through an unconventional and highly personal perspective, emphasizing the relationship between nature, culture, the passage of time, and everyday life. For the past two decades, indigo has been Ricketts’s primary medium and subject matter. Techniques learned during his apprenticeships in Japan drive his woven objects and installations. Ricketts uses natural dyes and historical Japanese processes to create contemporary artworks that engage visitors in multi-sensory experiences and embraces indigo’s depth of meaning.
Project Atrium is a bold series of site-specific and site-sensitive art installations created by emerging and mid-career artists and commissioned by MOCA Jacksonville. Learn more about Project Atrium
