Scandal formed in 2006, the girls were 15-17 and they learned their instruments together. Within months they were playing on the street. In 2008 they signed a to an indie label and had their first US tour. By late 2008 they signed to Epic Records. The video you watched was in 2010. By 1013 they were selling out stadiums, they now have their own label.
I love older SCANDAL songs, but you might want to check out one of the newer tracks like 'Masterpiece' or A.M.D.J.K.. They've come a long way. BTW, that was the bassist Tomomi that came in with the second vocals. All of the members sing, but Haruna, the rhythm guitarist, is the main lead. Mami is on lead guitar and Rina is on drums. That started in 2006, while they were still in High School.
Scandal is the model of "organic band". Just a group of friends who got together, learn to play and that´s all. As a fact, Scandal have a curious origin. Some of them were in a singing school, and one of the teachers asken them to learn some instrument and... well... they got together, buy instruments, learn and some time after this they perform in parks for anybody who want to ear them. Sony Japan has a lot strange rules about usage, and Scandal have had their videos taken down several times by their own company, so the number of views for a lot of videos are skewed. All four members sing, though Haruna, the rhythm guitarist, is the primary lead vocalist. They did start as punk-pop/pop rock, but have expanded to becoming one of the most diverse bands, incorporating many genres into their sound. Thanks for doing this one! I've been a fan of Scandal for about 6 years (exactly 1 day after I discovered Band-Maid). They don't get enough attention from reactors/reviewers. Great vocals, and great harmonies. Glad you dug Tomomi's extraordinary chipmunk voice. If no one's mentioned yet: They sound better live than in the studio - check out some of their official live concert tracks on YT. I've had the pleasure of seeing them a few times and I can tell you they not only sound amazing but their performances are just about flawless.
Nice reaction...Scandal was my first Japanese band that I discovered back in 2013! Haruna' lead vocals is wonderful, Mami's lead guitar is amazing, the drummer Rina is the youngest member but very creative...my bias member is the bassist Tomomi with her very squirrely hi- pitched vocals....I finally saw them life (my first time after 2 1/2 years of waiting due to covid delays) in Toronto, Canada ....it was a wonderful concert! The adults at Sony preferred Haruna on vocals and Mami on lead guitar. As a result, the two also served as MCs for most of their live performances. As a result, their authority became stronger. Before her debut and at her first live performance, it was drummer Lina who actively expressed her opinion. Lina, the drummer, is originally capable of playing instruments such as piano, keyboard, guitar, and cajon. At the age of 15, she was a complete beginner at playing the drums. She was the first member to write and compose the lyrics. In 2012, the song "Bitter Chocolate" was composed by Lina on drums. Tomomi on bass was in charge of the lyrics. Bassist Tomomi originally played the guitar. Also, Lina was the only one who was thinking about leaving the group.
Scandal (same 4 women) will celebrate their 17th anniversary in August 2023. Shunkan Sentimental(2009) is off their 2nd album (they were teenagers)---they have 10 albums now. They write, arrange and record(on their own record label "her") all their songs now. You would probably enjoy their 9th album "Kiss from the Darkness (2020)." It's great rock. They have always been busy with live performances and I estimate they have exceeded 700 concerts over the years. The newest single "Line of Sight"/"Vision" was just released in May 2023.
Do live performances less likely to be blocked. Their newer music from 2019 is fine do their music video. I would do Scandal Baby (live performance), Image (live performance), A.M.D.K.J. (Music video ), or Shoujo S (live performance). All four members sing. And each one has sang main vocals on different songs. Most of the time Haruna does most of the lead vocals. If you want to hear all four members take turns singing on a song check out the songs Playboy or Scandal in the House. Do their live performances for both songs. The band has performed the theme songs for several anime series, including "Shōjo S" and "Harukaze" for Bleach, "Shunkan Sentimental" for Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, "Pride" for "Star Driver" and "A.M.D.K.J." for "GeGeGe no Kitarō". Rina was also the first member to write and compose the song. It was around the time when they had just made their debut. Haruna, Tomomi, and Mami, who originally attended a dance school, dreamed of joining a dance group and took lessons. In the early days, most girls could not play musical instruments. Lina was the youngest, so she barely went to school. In the early days, SCANDAL was more rock-oriented, and drums were very important. Rina was also the most popular member in Japan. In 2013, at the request of the oldest leaders, Haruna and Mami, they produced their own music, and the direction of the song changed when Mami took over as the conductor. There are few claims of drumming. Rina also changed her hair color and appearance to suit everyone. There are almost no female drummers in Japan. So, Rina wanted to pass it on to the next generation, so she had long hair and did her own makeup from the time of her debut. But it is gone. She deleted all of her Twitter and blogs. There is a video site immediately after SCANDAL's debut and the first live performance. Take a look sometime.
