HAD SUCH A GOOD TIME LISTENING TO GARY AND THE PLAYBOYS ON MY TRANSISTER RADIO. THEY WERE UNDERATED. A TEENAGER IN LOVE IS WHAT I REMEMBER, THAT WAS ME!!!
This is one of the best band. My husband's collection from original vinyls to tapes are stored in his library. Somebody wants to buy those from him from the 50s era but he declined saying those items are all his treasures left.
You realize they weren't on any of the songs( played)...all done in studio by the Wrecking Crew mostly at Gold Star studios....Heavy overdubbing on Gary Lewis with fill by ghost singers....His Ed Sullivan appearance was lip synced.....very unusual for Sullivan to allow....
I loved this song when I was a grasshopper back in the 60's. The bass player, the talented Carl Radle, grew long hair (we all did) and played with Eric Clapton throughout the 70's. You can see him on the Derek and the Dominos videos.
Brian Hyland recorded this song back in '63. Two years later producer Snuff Garrett told Gary to give it a try since Brian's didn't go anywhere. It reached #2 in the week of August '65. The song that kept it out of #1 was I Got You Babe.
In the video, I believe the guitarist who was named Allan Ramsay is supposed to be Carl Radle. Carl replaced Allan because he unfortunately died in a plane crash.
That's definitely Carl Radle who went on to have a long association with Eric Clapton. But Allan Ramsay outlived Radle, dying in 1985 whereas Radle died in 1980.
❤❤from Texas 2023
More songs from Gary Lewis my favorite group musician of the 60s thank you God bless you all

You're correct that's definitely Carl Radle in the video here.

Ah!
Mazobel...
You were kind enough to send me a letter with Your autograph. I have your 45s I love your voice.
That’s not Allan Ramsey, it’s Carl Radle
Bassist Carl Radle seems to be mis identified here....Carl replaced Alan in the band.
And that’s Dave Walker not Costell
