another alternative to fabric softener is vinegar! the smell evaporates and it thoroughly cleans the clothes, I recommend

The designs on the dryer balls aren't glued on. It's a needle punch design. The colored wool is punched into the wool balls with a special needle so they won't come "unglued" in the dryer.
But...she had 2 butterflies fall off the last set and literally felt the glue on the backs...
