First of all, thank you Ed for rebuilding his PC! I've met some physically challenged people and they are the best kind of people for spending time with. Forgetting their situation, they try to keep others happy which is really heartwarming. This video made me realize that there are those who are blessed with everything yet complain about tiny matters. Look around you, talk to people, be happy, spend time with those who aren't blessed with everything. You'll know yourself better.

I have a great grandpa, who is blind, paralyzed from the neck down, has 2 failed livers (he has to go to the hospital 2 times a week to get his urine taken out of his bloodstream, which is a pretty painful process) he is in the process of losing his hearing, and has a disease as well (idk which one, I was never told). I really like how this guy appreciates how truly lucky he is. He deserved this setup 100%. Thanks for doing something different, Ed.

As a full time wheelchair user myself, it's awesome to see content like this as personally for me installing a 280mm radiator in the top of my pc was a challenge and is extremely hard but I was lucky my gf helped out. It's awesome to see you helping people less fortunate not just financially but physical issues as well and showing people in this state still try to game like everyone else. Keep up great work!

C5-C6 injuries are aweful, i was in a csr accident last year in june and broke my neck in the same spot, i got off lucky tho and only deal with nerve pain and the muscle pain that comes with it. Luckily no paralysis. So i feel for him about it

Oh for the most part all is well, actualy just the day before yesterday i went to the spine center to see what i can do with the pain, he put me on muscle relaxers. Currently deciding if surgery would help. But all is well. I live my life like i would.

I don't know there's something about this guy that makes me feel very emotional and I've never truly sat down and thought about how lucky I was to have all my limbs functional and able to play games, like that scene showing him moving adeptly in WOW made me tear a little. Keep being strong, man, you're loved by everyone who watched/watches this vid. I idolise your strength.

I can't like this episode enough. This is one of those experiences in which even though you're the one giving stuff away, you're receiving soooo much more in return. Life is a quirky and interesting thing, and experience, both good and bad, can be humbling and insightful. I appreciate your sharing of this experience and Heath's amazing outlook on life. I also appreciate Heath sharing how he plays WoW. I know there are some devices out there to aid individuals with physical limitations regarding PC use, but they're generally expensive and designed for specific use cases like full paralysis. I wonder if there might be other programmable input devices out there that could make his gaming experiences even more seamless and awesome! Sounds like a possible follow up episode to me ;)
I use NaturalPoint's TrackIR for head tracking in games I play that support it like Arma 3. I bet you might be able to even adapt something like that or Tobii's Eye tracking sensor bar to help with mouse/cursor movement. Perhaps he could use voice command software to type in chat or set up macros on boards like Elgato's Stream Deck? I bet there are a number of things out there he could play around with.

He has had devices (in the beginning) that were very expensive to help him with his hand use but they were never really useful. That's why he came up with putting the pencil in his splint. It's a while lot more easier for him to use. Most of those devices are to big and bucky, which in turn makes it more of a hindrance. Now, I really don't know about now because that was 25 years ago. Technology has changed but why change what works for him? Plus, it would be so much more expensive.

I'm the son of a 35+ year social worker who spent most of her career as an employment coordinator helping people with intellectual disabilities (mostly) find more independence in their lives. Helped them acquire employment and housing, assist families with financial issues, stuff like that. So, I was pretty fortunate to have had a lot of awesome experiences with some pretty great people growing up, which always kept me thinking about ways we could make things more accessible in general for everyone.
The tech industry has exploded with all kinds of devices throughout the past decade especially. I'm fairly certain that Windows 10 might actually have built-in voice commands for the operating system. But yeah, even something like a programmable keyboard or macro board like the Stream Deck could be very useful. If there are common phrases he types out often like "LEEEEROOOY JEEEENKINS!!" (obviously, I haven't played WoW in awhile, lol), he could set that phrase as a macro to single button press. TrackIR and TobiiEye Tracking are a little expensive. I think the TrackIR 5 model is like $170 or something, but I know of at least one other person who doesn't have the use of his arms who uses his body and head movement to control characters in Overwatch, which is a pretty fast paced game. He has a UA-cam channel actually, so I'll link his video about it here in a bit when I get back to my computer (on phone currently).

Hey Ed, I'm 20 and I've been diagnosed with an extremely rare genetic condition called "muscular dystrophy" and I know even though I can walk and do stuff now but as my muscles are dying, I'll be in the same state as Heath someday, Thank you for making this video and giving me hope.

@@isafe4107 Dont feel sorry for someone just because of a disability.. it enabled me beyond those that give up. Ill give you a few examples.. I am a published poet in 36 languages with the International Poets Society, Ive published music through an Indy label, I carry 2 degrees and 13 Certifications in the IT field. Im a son, brother, father, and an Uncle. But on the opposite side, it got me away from people who turned out NOT to be my friends. They all disappeared the minute I got hurt. So do not feel sorry for me.. But use me as an example of what you can do against the odds that most people give someone in my position. Maybe even congratulate me on the things ive accomplished. But please dont feel sorry for me. Life didnt stop me when I became disabled, but it did enable me to become more, strive to educate myself. And last but not least, become someone who has more because of my own ability to learn.. and LIVE! :)

he has such a positive attitude and looks at life in the good way. I've met people who have severe depression because of their injuries and they are not fun to be around but this guy this man is a true inspiration so dont take life for granted and live it to the fullest

I understand your feelings, and empathy towards him. And while I agree about the positive attitude, and am very happy he's happy. He did dive into a shallow pool, I'm not sure if he knew it was shallow but it wasn't the brightest idea, and wouldn't give him all the money in the world. But that's just me. Merry Christmas anyways. Also I am currently going through some tough shit too, but know you're not the only one man! Therapy/counciling helps.

The fact that he had what looked like a very successful life ahead of him until he had his accident is terrible about what happened. However he uses gaming as a way of still pursuing his life in any way and he doesn’t use his disability as an excuse. He perseveres and doesn’t let his body hold him back from having fun and pushing through. He himself is so inspirational as he uses what he has to the best of the ability and doesn’t sit back and just let life do his thing to him and not doing anything to change it.
Honestly his setup to begin with wasn’t to bad lol. Wish I had atleast that. But being 20 years old with 3 kids in these days you don’t get the privilege to buy computers and stuff. You are an inspiration man. Keep it up 👍

I feel bad, but this experience of yours gave me any idea. Someone should invent a mouse and keyboard for the disabled. It would be amazing for people like him to be able to game at a much different level.
I know a few company's already do that type of stuff for controllers, not too sure about mouses though, but he could order a custom controller and use it!! I'm not sure how they'd make one around his condition, tho.

there is one that is controlled by using your mouth. Its really cool.

EDIT: By the way Ed, if this guy cant use his fingers. Remember to add a VR Headset in there for some games you dont need to push buttons with and just need to move around some joystick things. That is of course if you are still in contact with this guy, I think he would appreciate that. IDK if you are back and just putting the vidoe together, or if you are still there working on everything
