    You can do this effect in 1 step in Inkscape. Just trace the bear silhouette, upscale the mountain image (I use topaz), put the silhouette on top of the mountain where you want it, select both and use clip > set clip. Comes out much cleaner and you don't have to do all the extra manipulation.

    Good tutorial Philip... one tip though.. at 08:30 you explain how to add the graphic. Better option is to keep the graphic on top,
    make the graphic a clipping mask, that masked into the Bear Sillhouette... This way is less destructive ;)

    Hi Philip, another amazing tutorial! Just curious, why did you vectorize the images if you were working in Photoshop? Is vectorizing better than using upscaling software when you want to enlarge a Mid Journey graphic?

    • @PhilipAnders
      @PhilipAnders  11 місяців тому +1

      vectorizing has a different aesthetic to upscaling. And for these sorts of graphics I prefer to vectorize. But either option works

      Maxing out at 2G free made me have to work and delete a few times because I'd had a backlog I thought I should just do. i just sub'd. I have one question, why does vectorizing make a better printable image? other than trying to get rid of the background without tracing a mask or using ai to grab the main subject of a image. I've done this kind of stuff in the past but I feel like things have changed in the last couple of years. usually I edit with rawtherepee or photopea and export with 16 bit PNG to print on DTG printing. looks decent enough but if there's a more effective way i'd be more than interested to learn a better process.

    • @PhilipAnders
      @PhilipAnders  11 місяців тому

      Thank you for the sub! Midjourney images are 1000 pixels which doesn't print well on shirts. Vectorizing is the easiest way imo to increase print quality quickly and effectively

    • @PhilipAnders

  • @odinsfire1409

    Good vid but what's the point of vectorizing the images only to rasterize them in Photoshop? If it ends up as pixels anywaty as opposed to vectors why not just upscale the original images before composting in PS? Am I missing something?

    • @PhilipAnders
      @PhilipAnders  11 місяців тому

      I prefer vectorizing over upscaling when it comes to this sort of flat 2d digital art. The only point of vectorizing is increasing quality. You can of course use an upscaler instead as well

    Vectorizing, then rasterizing, then removing the "white glow" produced by rasterizing...
    I mean, even if you don't want to use AI or Inkscape, you can still just edit the SVG in a text editor, right?
    If you need a white silhouette on a black background to use as a mask, search and replace: #000000 with something random, #ffffff to #000000, then something random to #ffffff.
    If you want to remove the white background, replace "#ffffff" with "none", or "transparent", or nothing, or add "fill-opacity" = 0, whatever PS understands.

    • @PhilipAnders
      @PhilipAnders  11 місяців тому +1

      There's always various different ways to get to the same end result. The vector serves as a vessel to improve quality here as the original file is so small. That's the main point of the action. I personally use Illustrator a lot but some people also like seeing Photoshop tutorials
