    I am a Nebraska Fan, no matter what, what I saw about Tennessee was Class act the entire game. NOT LIKE FLORIDA SCHOOLS. BTW, Where were the Penalties, I DIDN'T SEE ANY. After the Game Tom Osborne let everyone know, "don't look at the score, this game was close". Who won the next year's national championship, "that's right TN". TN SHOWED RESPECT JUST LIKE NE. It's called SPORTSMANSHIP. I am glad NE won that year and where they were not in the contest. WE NEBRASKA FANS WERE ROOTING FOR TENNESSE. Trust me, WE WERE.

    Good lord, Nebraska was a physical juggernaut during this era. Won titles outright in 1994 and 1995. Shared the 1997 title after they won this game. Should have won it all in 1996, except for a lack of focus aberration against Arizona State early in the season. They beat Tennessee like a drum in this game, and two years previous, they annihilated a loaded Florida team like they were a high school team. This game actually, in a shamed dog sort of way, motivated Tennessee to get more physical, especially on defense, and probably put the fire in their gut to go on and win the title in 1998.

      ***** One game can make a difference. Nebraska was not supposed to take out the Florida Gators. We all know how that turned out. There is no way in Hell I would compare Touchdown Tommy with Frost. I still think Michigan had the edge in defense with Woodson. I really did not want to say one way or the other, but after viewing Michigan and Nebraska, I think Michigan was balls to the wall. Their defense would have been problems for the offense.

    • @Huskerliving
      @Huskerliving 8 років тому +2

      ***** Nebraska was not supposed to even be able to stay with Florida in that particular bowl game and they did a 180 on them. That is what I meant. So one game can change things drastically for a team. In that game it was Florida's misfortune.

      Michigan was the true and ONLY Champion for 1997. First of all, Michigan was ranked #1 in BOTH polls going into their bowl game. They won, and beat a highly ranked WSU team handedly. Therefore, never in the history of college football has a team went into a bowl game being ranked, then won, and dropped in ranking? Look at little bitch boy Neb qb Frost, whining and crying to the coaches to vote them ahead of Michigan, since it was Osbournes last game.....You see, the coaches poll that year was tainted, and not only that, but the AP is a higher ranked poll, and has more meaning. Oh, I guess you Nebraska fans forgot about that little game you had in Missouri, in which you LOST (if not for cheating, and kicking the ball in the endzone). But, you would like to forget that little hiccup, hey sparky? Michigan dominated every game they played, beat more ranked teams, had the Heisman Trophy winner (Woodson), and none of their games were close....Nebraska on the other hand, it took a miracle and LUCK for you to "beat" Missouri, and then you played a highly overrated Tennessee team which had chokemeister Manning at the helm...(Yes, Manning always choked in big college games, just ask him about Florida....lol)

Its a little ridiculous that you call that arizona state loss a lack of focus!!! Considering jake plummer and arizona state was a really good team! I think scott frost and the rest of that 96 team did exceptioally well for his first year at quarter back trying to fill tommies shoes in a very sophisticated triple option offensive scheme thats all about timing and making the right reads thats very effective and exicution is a must!!!

    • @DamonNomad82
      @DamonNomad82 2 роки тому

      The main reason for the split, at least during the mid 90s after most of the bowl games actually tried to cooperate and get 1 vs 2 matchups, was the Rose Bowl, or as we called them at the time, the "Troub-Bowl". The Rose Bowl was hell-bent on keeping its Big 10 champ vs Pac-10 champ format and refused to participated in the Bowl Alliance. That screwed up both the 1994 and 1997 national title pictures because one of the top 2 teams was Big 10 champs: Penn St. in 1994 and Michigan in 1997. Fortunately, in 1994, Penn St., the #2 team, played a much softer schedule than Nebraska, with all of their opponents losing at least 4 games that year, so Nebraska easily won the vote in both polls by beating #3 Miami. In 1997, however, the strength of schedule was much more even, as both Nebraska and Michigan had quality wins over high-level opponents and close calls against mid-level teams. Michigan had big wins over Penn St. and Ohio St., while Nebraska had big wins over Washington, Kansas St., and Tennessee. Michigan had a bad scare against Iowa, and beat them 28-24 at home, while Nebraska nearly got stunned at Missouri, completing a desperation pass for a touchdown on the last play of regulation to tie the game, then winning in overtime, 45-38. That said, Michigan would have been in serious trouble if they had played Nebraska head-to-head, as the Wolverines had the nation's best defense but a terrible offense, while the Cornhuskers had a top 10 defense and a powerful offense.

If Bill McCartney was the "holy man" he claimed to be he would have forfeited that horseshit win. To top it off, they needed a phantom clipping call on Notre Dame to win their bowl game.
