Both of Codys AJ matches were amazing idk how people can just ignore that. I feel like fans would rather have a really over gimmick with mediocre or even boring matches vs a regular more traditional gimmick and excellent matches
The only problem Cody Rhodes has is that the IWC keeps predicting that fans will turn on him when he's still selling tickets, selling merch, making every town, putting up great matches and having the loudest crowd reactions. We've not seen a successful pure top babyface this century, and instead of us to enjoy the ride we're creating problems that don't exist. You can truly call this a problem when he starts getting booed at live event, until then, IT'S NOT.

Earlier this year it was : "We Want Cody" now it's "We Want Roman". The fans don't know what they want, that's the problem because they've been BEGGING and PLEADING for Roman to lose his WWE title for the past 3 and 1/2 years. Now that it's happened, they don't like Cody even though these were the same people who were booing The Rock, which forced him to turn heel, because Cody was who they wanted to beat Roman, now they don't want him anymore ? This is ridiculous, the fans need to make up their minds.

I’m starting to see why Vince had a “F you” attitude towards the IWC fans. They spend weeks, months, years complaining about a talent being misused. Yet the second they actually succeed and become world champion, they automatically turn on them in an instant. They did it with Daniel Bryan over a decade ago at WrestleMania 30, they did it with Punk in 2012 before he turned heel again. And now they’re doing it with Cody. It’s fans like this that can never be satisfied and enjoy the ride 🤦🏽♂️
Yeah I agree, some of the fans just need to calm down sometimes and let it play out, they can have opinions but it's unreasonable to say "Ooh the title reign is not good, Cody sucks" if it just started over a few months ago. I'm really enjoying this title reign with Cody and I don't care if the story is predictable, I just wanna have fun and watch.

The only problem the WWE has with Cody Rhodes is...other than maybe not having strong feuds at the moment, because it's still early and a lot of stars are still out on injury?...not a damn thing. That man is selling merch like crazy, the crowds are getting LOUDER (if you haven't noticed since Backlash), and he's a fighting champion who actually shows up, never backs down AND can cut a hellafied promo (especially when angered since those moments lean into his natural anti-hero/heel-like energy). I keep hearing half of the internet calling him boring, yet Cody is out here absolutely killing it in babyface mode. They say he's too emotional, but that's the absolute most endearing and relatable thing about him! Guys respect him because he has an old school wrestling style. Women love him because he's a literal dream man. The children love him because he's kindhearted and unselfish. He's brought a lot of us back to wrestling in these past two years. Sounds like one of the best problems to have, in my opinion!
1. We've been saying for MONTHS that the title will get stale because there's No real threat to the title run other than Reigns or Rock. We all know that Rhodes is facing Rock at WrestleMania 41 next year. 2. There's NO WAY he loses his title before facing the Rock. 3. They already set up Rock vs Rhodes for mania 41, the night after Mania 40. He ain't losing the title anytime soon. So all the feuds and matches don't really mean much because there's no risk .

The marks on the IWC need to quit this Cody Rhodes witch hunt. The chase is always more interesting than the title reign itself, that's how it happens, that's why every time a fan favorite wrestler wins a belt, people cheer. He's doing an excellent job! The matches are great, the fans react to his promos, he's got charisma, he's constantly on WWE TV. And let's all be honest for a second, this whole "Cody is a flop" speech was instigated by AEW fanboys who simply can't accept that WWE is booking him better. Cody as a character is in fact well written. The problem was that his story is applicable to any pro wrestler who dreams of becoming the WWE champ at some point, and the story from where Cody came from in getting the title. Outside of Reigns, WWE has not made any overly credible challenger to make Cody's reign a bit more exciting. While Roman's run left us questioning how would the baby face overcome Roman and the bloodline, with Cody right now, we all know that he'd win at the end no matter how great his challenger is at wrestling.
The problem isn’t Cody or WWE… the problem is these keyboard warriors on social media who probably watch 1 x 60s clip of something that happened on the recent RAW/Smackdown then go into the comments & beat down every single part of it… I can’t tell you how close I’ve been on so many occasions to simply unfollowing wrestling accounts just because I cannot believe nor be bothered with the crap some people come out with 🙄

Many people have been saying this for a while, once he finishes the story. What’s going to be special about his reign? He’s not losing the title until after his match against The Rock at Wrestlemania 41, so pretty much every feud he gets in won’t mean anything knowing what the obvious outcome will be
Cody Rhodes is totally deserving of being the WWE Champion. That said, WWE has made Cody one of the worst characters to be a champion. He’s often made to look weak and stupid and he smiles regularly while being insulted never really responding. Triple H is not the genius he’s made out to be and Cody’s run as champion so far is proof of this. Cody needs to develop a mean streak even as a babyface to look stronger. It’s also very clear that WWE had no long term booking plans for Cody as they did with Roman. Cody deserves better and so do us the fans.

His in ring stuff isn’t the main part I was referring to, I was mostly referring to his promos. Cody is a great talker but he is way too nice in his promos to the point where heels insult him regularly and no reply is made. WWE has never had a top babyface get outright insulted and the heels got away with it before Cody. And I’m guessing there won’t be many like that after him. It just isn’t a good look for that to happen on a regular basis.
Current problems with Cody's reign so far (imo): 1) Moving him from Raw (where all of his stories have taken place) to SmackDown 2) Clear lack of long-term plans post-Mania 3) Lack of credible heel challengers on SmackDown 4) Babyface chase is better than being the babyface champion. 5) Following up Roman 6) Character has not really evolved (that much) after his battles with Roman I'm one of the people who kinda expected all of this and I do have my concerns, but I'm gonna wait and see how this all plays out. However, I'm not sure that having Cody hold the title until next year's Mania is the right move or even really necessary.
The Bloodline story injected life into the careers of ppl who feuded with them. Enough of this nonsense about Roman getting built up at everybody else's expense. The only person who didn't benefit from feuding with Roman over the course of that title run was Cesaro, and it was his own fault for not being interesting.
Honestly, I think alot of is it just the normal, post Mania lul. His had a good fued with AJ but its been a bit disjointed. His got the story with the Rock and to a certain extent Roman will hanging there and thats meant they haven't really built a proper fued since Mania, because they can't set up a 3rd long term story for him. So instead, we had a couple weeks of AJ and him, then a couple week of him and Logan, then oh lets go back to AJ for a bit but it isn't cohesive, week to week stuff. Mostly though, its just people doing the usual and pushing against whats popular. There a core of haters to the Cody reign pushing a narrative of its stale, its got boring etc etc. Its not even been 3 months. Its not even close to a long title reign yet. Its very much a case of coming out of Mania, what do we do with Cody. We know we want to do the Roman and Bloodline thing when Roman comes back ,we got the Rock thing we can do when he comes back... but shit neither are actually here right now... so we need to do something quick in the meantime and its been thrown together short-term.

Here’s how they should do it. Cody holds the title till survivor series where he loses to randy orton. He then beats orton at next year’s royal rumble. Then that same night Finn balor wins the royal rumble and challenges Cody for the title at Mania because he to has a story to finish then he brings out his demon persona and beats Cody at Mania to finish his story. There we can get the main event between rock and roman
I don't know why people are complaining..if I didn't like something in wrestling I took a break. If Vince was still there we would never get half the booking we are getting now. I fully came back once I started seeing things heating up with the Bloodline with Jey and Sami etc and it kept me back. I'm not complaining and loving the stories being told. I don't want fast food wrestling like we use to get...I'll wait for the payoff. I'm a fan Roman from day 1 when he was getting booed...I love Cody and he's doing good work and I'm enjoying it

Gunther had multiple great moments throughout his title reign. 2. The biggest Cody Rhodes problem is that he was the only wrestler in the history of wwe who made it to the top 10 highest merch sellers list on Fanatics, competing with likes of Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and LeBron James, etc. He is getting the loudest reactions out of all the wrestlers. Yeah, that's problematic.
Cody is not that guy… simple. Now to be fair he is trying to follow up one of the best title reigns since Cena and Punk over a decade ago and it is harder to be a babyface champion than a heel one. Apparently, Rock is fully committed to helping Rhodes. To the point that he pushed his match against Reigns back another 2 years to WrestleMania 42. 👍 Rock wants to give Rhodes ANOTHER WrestleMania moment at Mania 41 with a match.
I just see his reign as something too cliche and I find him boring. His matches are predictable, (and you need more than 'good' matches, to have a 'good' reign) so you don't really have to watch the match(es) to know the outcome. His promos don't have any substance, which doesn't give me the urge to watch Smackdown anymore.

More than just those crazy people made We Want Cody trend. You really think WWE would change their plans over death threats? They have gotten death threats before and still gone through with stuff. Even with his flaws in booking, Cody is still very popular. Maybe not with hardcore wrestling fans on the internet, but with casuals and kids, he is very popular. Which is why he is in the position he is in. Also considering the original plan was Rock vs Roman with either Roman's title reign being extended, or Rock beating him and immediately relinquishing the title, I think this was the best option. Granted, they need to do some things to make his title run more interesting. And Solo vs Cody at Summerslam ain't it.
The issue Cody currently has is he has no issues. Cody shines brightest when he’s fighting against insurmountable odds. He is the quintessential underdog but now he has no big bad unbeatable boss to beat so as great as he is there’s a lack of “man vs god” aura. Now he’s like super Cena except the fans aren’t as divided. Also they’ve kind of booked themselves into a corner cause he needs to hold the title for a significant amount of time to put him on the Roman level but that would mean feeding him other stars who’ll lose stock by losing to Cody. The only 2 booking options now I see working is a long slow burning story with Randy where he gets really close to Cody and maybe reforms legacy to take on the growing bloodline only to double cross Cody after they’ve dealt with the bloodline and giving us a more vicious version of 2009 Randy. The other option is just continue on with the bloodline and have Solo beat him but Solo just isn’t that guy yet
To me as a viewer my biggest annoyance till cody rhodes reign was the fact that the wwe title not being defended as much as before, I was on the time where cena had the title for a year, but at least he was defending it, if the wwe championship keeps the current trajectory I dont have anything against it, cody rhodes defends and at one point there a pay off, as in every major storyline in the past, in the Roman reigns formula to me had some flaws, first was the fact that before his reign he was getting shoved down our throats in a different way that cena was(in my opinion) and more importantly... the biggest prize in all of wwe was gatekeeped by a non defending champion, which to me it just makes it worse... That was one of the reasons I was so happy with codys win, we would have a fighting champion again... Even if he keeps it for a bit... and thats fine by me
It all depends on if championships are all you care about. Drew v CM Punk and the Wyatts are both storylines that have no titles involved right now yet are the most talked about. Obviously, championships only changing hands at special events isn't a good thing, but titles changing hands isn't the only reason people watch WWE
Every long title reign is the problem, I remember a time when belts switched every few weeks/months and it made all the storylines and rivalries more exciting to a certain point
Too soon to judge, he has had great matches thus far, and seems to be more of an active title holder than Roman was. Both a big plus. Overexposure might be a potential problem at some point, but not yet.
The problem is that they caved and gave his fans what they wanted, and now they think they can just cry and get their way all the time. They're already saying that it needs to be Rock vs Cody at Mania next year, when we all know it needs to be Rock vs Roman.
TripleH is defensive in Cody's case as he doesn't want to lose the momentum of other young talents, if cody gets in rivalry with bron breaker, gunther, Braun strowman, it won't ruin their momentum bcz they will be defeated by a guy who beat roman, paul needs to put these guys in rivalry with cody as he is a future of company and biggest baby face, rivalry with randy for 3 paper views and stipulation can catapult this. Punk, rock and uncle howdy can be in pipeline in future
This is not a Cody Rhodes problem but you are right the big predictable WrestleMania moments are amazing but it's also better to have some we didn't see that coming moment too... specially when WWE can do both...
Reintroduce the concept of shorter title reigns. In the old days a champion could have the belt 3 years, 3 months, 3 weeks, hell 3days or even 3 minutes. You never knew. I believe this notion of extended championships is just getting ridiculous. When Bruno Samartino had the record for longest title reign it had never been done before. Than punk did 400 days and that was epic. Now Roman did 4 years. Come on. Ease up on the reigns. I'm not saying make all of them short, but don't make them seemingly endless too. Also Roman wasn't a fighting champion and neither was Brock. They need someone like Rhodes to be a fighting champion, but it has to be special. Give him credible booking. Make it look like he COULD lose. Keep the title itself fresh. Have it go back and forth sometimes. Add drama to the shows again and build towards PPVs. Don't just be nonchalant and than have key moments happen EXCLUSIVELY at PPVs. It's ok for a champion to lose on RAW or SMACKDOWN every once and awhile. Do like Punk and Drew and get personal so the title doesn't even matter for that type of fued. Also put Cody in MORE interesting match types. Maybe a cage match. Maybe a special guest referee. A strap match. Ladder match with belt above the ring. SOMETHING to keep his defense interesting and fresh and NOT make him feel like a place holder champion until the Rock gets back.
What's happening with Cody right now is exactly what many people, myself included said was going to happen. Once you "finish the story" then the story's over, there's nothing more to see here. There was no long term plan for what happens after Cody has his big moment. He can have all the five-star matches he wants with the likes of AJ Styles, Logan Paul etc but if the storytelling isn't there, if there's no reason for me as a fan to be invested in this feud, then who GAF about how good/great the match is? Now, to be fair to Cody, trying to follow one of the greatest title reigns in wrestling history was always going to be an uphill battle. But issue is that even with the championship, Cody still doesn’t feel like he's "the guy". He just feels like a placeholder who's there to keep us distracted until the real stars like Roman & Rock make their returns. Hell, the crowds are chanting "We want Roman" now after they begged,.pleaded & cried for him to drop the title & go away. He's constantly being overshadowed by other feuds/storylines whether its the continuiing Bloodline saga, Punk vs Drew, Liv & Dom/Judgement Day, Chad Gable/Alpha Academy or now the Wyatt Sicks. When Roman was champion, there was no doubt who the top dog was. He had an aura that felt like he was above everyone else. Cody just doesn’t have that same aura & he never will. Idc how much he's cheered or how loudly the crowd sings his theme song. He may the guy for right now, but he's not THE guy.
Professional wrestling is cool again and all the people complaining on the internet can chill out. So many storylines at the moment, great development, hell even NXT is getting enough heat to do more views than AEWs main show. This is the best the products been in a while

Earlier this year it was : "We Want Cody" now it's "We Want Roman". The fans don't know what they want, that's the problem because they've been BEGGING and PLEADING for Roman to lose his WWE title for the past 3 and 1/2 years. The only problem the WWE has with Cody Rhodes is...other than maybe not having strong feuds at the moment, because it's still early and a lot of stars are still out on injury?...not a damn thing.
That man is selling merch like crazy, the crowds are getting LOUDER (if you haven't noticed since Backlash), and he's a fighting champion who actually shows up, never backs down AND can cut a hellafied promo (especially when angered since those moments lean into his natural anti-hero/heel-like energy). I keep hearing half of the internet calling him boring, yet Cody is out here absolutely killing it in babyface mode. They say he's too emotional, but that's the absolute most endearing and relatable thing about him! Guys respect him because he has an old school wrestling style. Women love him because he's a literal dream man. The children love him because he's kindhearted and unselfish. He's brought a lot of us back to wrestling in these past two years.

1. We've been saying for MONTHS that the title will get stale because there's No real threat to the title run other than Reigns or Rock. We all know that Rhodes is facing Rock at WrestleMania 41 next year.

3. They already set up Rock vs Rhodes for mania 41, the night after Mania 40. He ain't losing the title anytime soon. So all the feuds and matches don't really mean much because there's no risk .

The chase is always more interesting than the title reign itself, that's how it happens, that's why every time a fan favorite wrestler wins a belt, people cheer. He's doing an excellent job! The matches are great, the fans react to his promos, he's got charisma, he's constantly on WWE TV.

Cody as a character is in fact well written. The problem was that his story is applicable to any pro wrestler who dreams of becoming the WWE champ at some point, and the story from where Cody came from in getting the title. Outside of Reigns, WWE has not made any overly credible challenger to make Cody's reign a bit more exciting. While Roman's run left us questioning how would the baby face overcome Roman and the bloodline, with Cody right now, we all know that he'd win at the end no matter how great his challenger is at wrestling.
If the weekly numbers were to drop off now I'd blame the move to peacock before I'd blame Cody

Cody Rhodes is totally deserving of being the WWE Champion. That said, WWE has made Cody one of the worst characters to be a champion. He’s often made to look weak and stupid and he smiles regularly while being insulted never really responding. Triple H is not the genius he’s made out to be and Cody’s run as champion so far is proof of this. Cody needs to develop a mean streak even as a babyface to look stronger. It’s also very clear that WWE had no long term booking plans for Cody as they did with Roman. Cody deserves better and so do us the fans.

His in ring stuff isn’t the main part I was referring to, I was mostly referring to his promos. Cody is a great talker but he is way too nice in his promos to the point where heels insult him regularly and no reply is made. WWE has never had a top babyface get outright insulted and the heels got away with it before Cody. And I’m guessing there won’t be many like that after him. It just isn’t a good look for that to happen on a regular basis.
Current problems with Cody's reign so far (imo):
1) Moving him from Raw (where all of his stories have taken place) to SmackDown
2) Clear lack of long-term plans post-Mania
3) Lack of credible heel challengers on SmackDown
4) Babyface chase is better than being the babyface champion.
5) Following up Roman
6) Character has not really evolved (that much) after his battles with Roman
I'm one of the people who kinda expected all of this and I do have my concerns, but I'm gonna wait and see how this all plays out. However, I'm not sure that having Cody hold the title until next year's Mania is the right move or even really necessary.

The Bloodline story injected life into the careers of ppl who feuded with them. Enough of this nonsense about Roman getting built up at everybody else's expense. The only person who didn't benefit from feuding with Roman over the course of that title run was Cesaro, and it was his own fault for not being interesting.
Honestly, I think alot of is it just the normal, post Mania lul. His had a good fued with AJ but its been a bit disjointed. His got the story with the Rock and to a certain extent Roman will hanging there and thats meant they haven't really built a proper fued since Mania, because they can't set up a 3rd long term story for him. So instead, we had a couple weeks of AJ and him, then a couple week of him and Logan, then oh lets go back to AJ for a bit but it isn't cohesive, week to week stuff.
Mostly though, its just people doing the usual and pushing against whats popular. There a core of haters to the Cody reign pushing a narrative of its stale, its got boring etc etc. Its not even been 3 months. Its not even close to a long title reign yet. Its very much a case of coming out of Mania, what do we do with Cody. We know we want to do the Roman and Bloodline thing when Roman comes back ,we got the Rock thing we can do when he comes back... but shit neither are actually here right now... so we need to do something quick in the meantime and its been thrown together short-term.

Then that same night Finn balor wins the royal rumble and challenges Cody for the title at Mania because he to has a story to finish then he brings out his demon persona and beats Cody at Mania to finish his story. There we can get the main event between rock and roman

The issue Cody currently has is he has no issues. Cody shines brightest when he’s fighting against insurmountable odds. He is the quintessential underdog but now he has no big bad unbeatable boss to beat so as great as he is there’s a lack of “man vs god” aura. Now he’s like super Cena except the fans aren’t as divided. Also they’ve kind of booked themselves into a corner cause he needs to hold the title for a significant amount of time to put him on the Roman level but that would mean feeding him other stars who’ll lose stock by losing to Cody. The only 2 booking options now I see working is a long slow burning story with Randy where he gets really close to Cody and maybe reforms legacy to take on the growing bloodline only to double cross Cody after they’ve dealt with the bloodline and giving us a more vicious version of 2009 Randy. The other option is just continue on with the bloodline and have Solo beat him but Solo just isn’t that guy yet

To me as a viewer my biggest annoyance till cody rhodes reign was the fact that the wwe title not being defended as much as before, I was on the time where cena had the title for a year, but at least he was defending it, if the wwe championship keeps the current trajectory I dont have anything against it, cody rhodes defends and at one point there a pay off, as in every major storyline in the past, in the Roman reigns formula to me had some flaws, first was the fact that before his reign he was getting shoved down our throats in a different way that cena was(in my opinion) and more importantly... the biggest prize in all of wwe was gatekeeped by a non defending champion, which to me it just makes it worse... That was one of the reasons I was so happy with codys win, we would have a fighting champion again... Even if he keeps it for a bit... and thats fine by me

Obviously, championships only changing hands at special events isn't a good thing, but titles changing hands isn't the only reason people watch WWE

Every long title reign is the problem, I remember a time when belts switched every few weeks/months and it made all the storylines and rivalries more exciting to a certain point
Cody is more boring than Roman.
Too soon to judge, he has had great matches thus far, and seems to be more of an active title holder than Roman was. Both a big plus. Overexposure might be a potential problem at some point, but not yet.

The problem is that they caved and gave his fans what they wanted, and now they think they can just cry and get their way all the time. They're already saying that it needs to be Rock vs Cody at Mania next year, when we all know it needs to be Rock vs Roman.

TripleH is defensive in Cody's case as he doesn't want to lose the momentum of other young talents, if cody gets in rivalry with bron breaker, gunther, Braun strowman, it won't ruin their momentum bcz they will be defeated by a guy who beat roman, paul needs to put these guys in rivalry with cody as he is a future of company and biggest baby face, rivalry with randy for 3 paper views and stipulation can catapult this. Punk, rock and uncle howdy can be in pipeline in future

Reintroduce the concept of shorter title reigns. In the old days a champion could have the belt 3 years, 3 months, 3 weeks, hell 3days or even 3 minutes. You never knew. I believe this notion of extended championships is just getting ridiculous. When Bruno Samartino had the record for longest title reign it had never been done before. Than punk did 400 days and that was epic. Now Roman did 4 years. Come on. Ease up on the reigns. I'm not saying make all of them short, but don't make them seemingly endless too. Also Roman wasn't a fighting champion and neither was Brock. They need someone like Rhodes to be a fighting champion, but it has to be special. Give him credible booking. Make it look like he COULD lose. Keep the title itself fresh. Have it go back and forth sometimes. Add drama to the shows again and build towards PPVs. Don't just be nonchalant and than have key moments happen EXCLUSIVELY at PPVs. It's ok for a champion to lose on RAW or SMACKDOWN every once and awhile. Do like Punk and Drew and get personal so the title doesn't even matter for that type of fued. Also put Cody in MORE interesting match types. Maybe a cage match. Maybe a special guest referee. A strap match. Ladder match with belt above the ring. SOMETHING to keep his defense interesting and fresh and NOT make him feel like a place holder champion until the Rock gets back.

What's happening with Cody right now is exactly what many people, myself included said was going to happen. Once you "finish the story" then the story's over, there's nothing more to see here. There was no long term plan for what happens after Cody has his big moment. He can have all the five-star matches he wants with the likes of AJ Styles, Logan Paul etc but if the storytelling isn't there, if there's no reason for me as a fan to be invested in this feud, then who GAF about how good/great the match is? Now, to be fair to Cody, trying to follow one of the greatest title reigns in wrestling history was always going to be an uphill battle. But issue is that even with the championship, Cody still doesn’t feel like he's "the guy". He just feels like a placeholder who's there to keep us distracted until the real stars like Roman & Rock make their returns. Hell, the crowds are chanting "We want Roman" now after they begged,.pleaded & cried for him to drop the title & go away. He's constantly being overshadowed by other feuds/storylines whether its the continuiing Bloodline saga, Punk vs Drew, Liv & Dom/Judgement Day, Chad Gable/Alpha Academy or now the Wyatt Sicks. When Roman was champion, there was no doubt who the top dog was. He had an aura that felt like he was above everyone else. Cody just doesn’t have that same aura & he never will. Idc how much he's cheered or how loudly the crowd sings his theme song. He may the guy for right now, but he's not THE guy.
