Another great review. I bought this camera (from TCS) a few weeks ago. I’m blown away with the autofocus. I think it’s every bit as good as the R3, and, in some ways better. So far I’ve used it for BIF (Snowy Owls and Great Grey Owl) and have not had any problem with rolling shutter or missed focus.
you will love it. I sold my R6 to get it. I haven't picked up my R5 in 2 weeks as I get used to the dial changes. My muscle memory to the two older cameras had me turning on video mode instead of turning off the camera
Another fine review, thank you. Despite living in the Okanagan of BC, I use The Camera Store for Nikon Z lens purchases. We have very limited access to gear here in Kelowna, and I have found your store's service to be exceptional.
I picked up the MkII as a second body. What a camera. I wasn’t a fan of the on/off switch move, but it does help me identify between them. The small HDMI port doesn’t bother me as I have the Smallrig accessory to stabilize the connection. I do wish and fervently hope that Canon will upgrade the MkI’s firmware to incorporate some of the newer camera’s upgraded features.
Great review you two! I've been researching this camera, and it is screaming for me to pick it up, but the full-frame, RF world isn't for me *YET* and I only say that due to funds. The mirrorless world is a fascinating realm that is a considerable game changer in photography, but I'm still in the stage of transitioning from DSLR to mirrorless. IE, until the R6 mkii and other RF lenses come down a lot more in price, I'll still be on my Canon M50 with my EF and EFM lenses. I don't think I can get rid of my 7D mkii though. There's something about still hanging on to the DSLR world that I just really don't want to leave behind.
I bought this camera 3 weeks ago and went on my first shoot. The AF is a game changer. Out of over 5000 action shots in badminton, I only had less than 3 dozens of OOF pictures. Every picture is tack sharp and the only downside is I have to cull a lot of pictures. But those money shots that had been difficult to shoot, I get it every time now - shuttle hitting the racquet.
Do you have portrait photos with default wb & skin tone? I need the skin tone color out of camera. For event photos the good skin tone matters, where jpeg is more preferable and no time to adjust skin tone for fast photo delivery. Thanks
The on/off switch is something that didn't need to be relocated, it was perfect where it was, just like the horrible relocated dial on the R7. Always liked Canon dial/button locations and overall ergonomics but these changes lately are simply ridiculous and not needed or desired.
Hi and many thanks for your thoughts on the MKII. My niche is wildlife and I have an R10 and 100 to 500 for obvious reasons, but I also want a 2nd camera and lens for closer up shooting and I'm questioning either another R10 or R6 MKII with a 24 to 105 f/4. Would you suggest the R10 or R6 MKII. I'm thinking the full frame to give me more light for for theses dull days with long months we have here in the UK. I also want 3 x C modes rather than 2, weather sealing, IBIS, but I'm going round in circles as I have heart failure and can't carry to much weight around and the R10 is lighter, but not sure if the difference would make that much of an issue for my health, so hopefully you can see why I'm scratching my head a lot on this question. I also want the dual card slots, because although I have 3 x 128GB cards, I also want that double card copying protection, just incase one card fails at some time and WHEN it does, guaranteed it will have my best shots ever on it. Many thanks in advance for your thoughts and much appreciated.
Hi and thanks for watching. You have a great lens in the RF100-500 so if you are ok with giving up the extra reach that the 1.6x crop gives in exchange for the improved low light, better viewfinder, bigger battery, etc. then I would say yes get the R6 II. I don't think that the extra size and weight are going to make much of a difference especially attached to that lens. Let me know what you end up doing and stay healthy my friend. Cheers
@@DaveTCSTV Many thanks for taking the time to reply and you’ve convinced me to get the R6 MKII. I actually believe that now you’ve convinced me, that I did actually want to buy it, but I just needed someone to give me that extra help to decide as I’ve been going back and forth, but I’ll pick one up on Thursday. Thanks ever so much Dave Paul, I really do appreciate your help 😊
I just added a used OM-D E-M1x to my collection. It's got that preburst, it has GPS, it has 5 stops of simulated ND, 50 megapixels hand-held, dual SDXC card slots, live composite, focus bracketing/stacking. GPS is pretty important to me.
I might end up getting this to complement my R7, but I'd really like an R mk2 (R8?) that is basically a full frame R7 closer to the R price than this camera. The R7 with the 24mm 1.8 has been pretty good for the video work I've done though.
@@bngr_bngr It is just a warning to those using HDMI. Micro HDMI port breaks easily. R6ii and R5 are excellent cameras, still Canon make some strange decision sometimes.
@@TVe200 I've been using my r5 and r6 from the release combined with ninja v constantly, I never ever did any damage to the port. It is ok if you use a cage and solutions like clamps or similar that small rig produces to make the connection more secure. The bigger problem is the connection which could easier loose the signal if recording, then the possibility of braking it.
@@tanmengazmil Absolutely not! If you don't do a lot of video or if you don't shoot a lot of 4k60, then don't upgrade. The Mark 2 is just perfect for me because I do everything from photography to 4k30 & 4k60 and I have no worries that the camera is going to overheat on me.
I’d buy it if it had a regular tilting screen. Canon should offer two versions of their cameras. One version with a tilting screen and another version with a flip-screen for youtubers who wants to see themselves on the screen.
but a tilt flip screen allows also taking photos and video while in vertical I think it is good, I guess new sony design is the best solution. They just need to bring that.
The flipscreen can be set to any angle and thus is also great for shooting vertically from the ground, or vertical, when held up high above your head. Also good for selfies. The tilt screen cannot do this.
I am an events and nightlife photographer, I bought this on release and had to return it. The camera is fantastic but has one major flaw which makes it unusable. It freezes up while being used. This happened within the first 30mins at a club event. The same thing happened to me with my original r6. When it freezes it can only start working once you take out the battery. Just annoying as there is non fix. I have tried everything . Have used ef and rf lens. All lens Canon original. All Canon batteries. Used 2 different lens adapters, all Canon original. Turned off all GPS, just everything that the forums suggest. So upset as the camera focusing system is amazing
Have you tried with another unit? My R6 had a similar problem, R5 has it also but is really not that often. With R6 it happened usually if I switched from photo to video, with the last firmware update it stoped happening.
I have one set of cards that will not allow the camera menu to come up on the viewfinder and adjust controls for about 1-2 seconds upon startup. But never on my other sets. After formatting the cards, it mostly goes away but slowly comes back as I fill it. But, again, only on one set.
the r6ii is absolutely and definitively sh1te in low light focusing. Did an dancing event and could not hit the mark most of the time, which is embarrassing for a paid gig. Had to revert to the 5diii I had luckily brought along and THAT worked better. And yes, I tried different AF modes etc and was on case 2.
Thanks a lot for your review. The Canon R6 ii seems like a very good body but you didn't mention the problem with lenses : no third-party RF lenses and I really don't want to pay 2500+€ for a 24-70mm. Also, I know you can use the adapter EF to RF and put a Sigma on for instance but it pains me to not being able to mount natively third-party lenses. Sony A7iv seems like the way to go if you're on a budget for lenses but this R6ii is way sexier, at least to my eyes !
Photography is an expensive hobby. Using EF mount lens with an adapter is a very good alternative. I didn’t like the larger R lenses so I just used the EF lenses I already have. The use of the ER to R is seem less. There is no need to remove the adapter from the camera if just using EF lenses.
@@bngr_bngr Thanks for your reply. Which lens are you using with the EF-RF adapter ? Is the AF still working fine ? If I buy the R6ii I will want to buy an Sigma 24-70 2.8 EF mount but I wonder if it will still performs well !

Yeah that switch location for photo/video is driving me nuts because I also regularly shoot on an R5. My fingers are so confused. 😮
same goes for me, did a 1/4 of a video about that 😅
Love you *canon*
can i suggest you talk about the rf 800 and rf 600 being given a bigger focus box on the r6 II
Hi, please make video R5 vs R6 mark II v/s Eos R. Which one is best & why.
What about dynamic range? I don’t think I heard you mention it. How many stops are we looking at?
Gerald did a video mentioning 12,5 I would say that is correct, from my current experience with the files I would say on par with the R5.
@@TomislavMoze that’s the reduced dynamic range during video cause of ten bit. It’s gonna be higher than 12.5 for sure.

Hey Guys, what lens is that you're both using at the zoo?
what you mean its production copy???
It means that it's finalized and the same hardware and firmware as a unit you'd buy in-store.
Canon, give us 4K 120 on this camera please. If it can shoot 6k 60 externally, it should be able to shoot 4K 120… even if it is only externally
Wish they used CFexpress type B cards as the memory standards.
I think this is a hardware limitation of the card and the buffer...
