- I visited an amazing orchid garden while visiting Kauai. It is located at Kiahuna Plantation Resort in Kōloa on Kauai’s South Shore. It was started in the late 90’s by a man named Ben who worked there. Here’s a link to that video I found on UA-cam

@@soniajohnson543 Aloha Sonia! I was amazed at how healthy the buds were! All of the buds were developed and nothing seemed to have any type of damage from pest. The orchids are definitely happy there 😊 Mahalo for watching 🤙🏽
Oh Kelly, couldn’t believe my eyes on how many orchids there were. Lava rocks packed around them and they looked GREAT. Have to wonder like u said do they spray for thripes and fertilizer, bc that garden is amazing. 😂 I’m a rock girl, so when I saw all those rocks ❤️❤️. Thank you for that must see place🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻❤️❤️❤️
@@lindagrabner4186 Aloha Linda! I also like growing my orchids in rock so this garden was a joy to visit. And I am curious to know if anyone is spraying insecticide or fertilizing because they were very healthy. Glad you enjoyed the video 😊

Kauai was one of the islands I went to for my birthday last year. Turtles can be seen on the beach during sunset from Poipu Beach and there were some monk seals resting.
There was a garden that I went to but couldn't get in because a reservation was needed.
I'm not surprised as to why Kiahuna Plantation has so many dendrobiums since they're used for leis. I know some species of Dendrobium can be terrestrial, but I thought they were mostly epiphytic.
I've been missing the coffee I got from Kauai Coffee Co recently. 😩

Kauai Coffee is a must stop whenever I’m on Kauai because my parents have to have their coffee!
The dendrobiums in the garden were grown on piles of rocks on the ground so they weren’t growing directly in the dirt. I included a link for the video of the guy who started this garden in the description box. The video is over ten years old so I was glad to learn that the garden was still around for people to enjoy 💚

Beautiful garden! I’ll be visiting the big island in February with my husband. Do you have any suggestions on nurseries or orchid gardens that we might visit?
@@LizE2654 Aloha Liz! Unfortunately most of the nurseries are closed to the public. The only nursery that I know of that you could visit is Akatsuka Orchid Garden Showroom. They are only open on Monday and Wednesday. I also heard that there are a lot of mounted orchids throughout Panaewa Rainforest Zoo and Gardens. I haven’t been there myself but it’s on my list of places to visit the next time I’m in Hilo.
