- With #finalfantasy 16's second DLC wave being released last week, I thought it'd be fun to take a look at one of my all time favorite games from last year and cover every major boss fight in the game from worst to best!

Thanks so much for watching everyone! Which Eikon fight was your favourite?
My ranking would be from worst to beast:
- C Rank: Jill/Shiva.
- C+ Rank: Joshua/Pheonix.
- B- Rank: Benedicta/Garuda.
- B Rank: Barnabas/Odin.
- B+ Rank: Omega.
- A- Rank: Dion/Bahamut.
- A Rank: Typhon.
- S- Rank: Waljas/Leviathan.
Now these next ones thematically feels the best too me and can change any day if the week. But currently;
- S Rank: Ultima: Ultima is the exact opposite of Clive standing for himself. And the gods of his race. While Clive stands for his friends/family. The battle was epic and a clash of freedom vs servitude.
- S+ Rank: Hugo Kupka/Titan: Kupka made everything he did personal. Attacking Clives home. Destroying his father's chair/symbolism to his legacy. Imprisoning Jill and almost excuting her. Every interaction between the two. Felt very similar to Green Goblin and Tom Holland's Spiderman. It was so "personal" between the two & Clives reaction to why Kupka did everything he did, was priceless. "I did what he couldn't!" Like Yo Clive was a savage in those moments! "You will get no pity from me Kupka & no mercy!" Like the dynamic between these two characters was incredible & I loved every bit of their interactions with one another. And for that reason it is my number 1.
I can explain why I have the other fights so low on the list. But felt like they didn't warrant explanation. But I'm always willing to go into depth.
"This eikon is controlled by a literal infant."
Clive: "You might think he looks cute now, but did you see him just a moment ago?"
Had my dead Ngl 🤣
Fun Fact: Typhon is "failed" Ultima's vesel and it's a shame we didn't get more of creatures like him
I neeeeeed this game yesterday and I cannot wait for my chance to play it. These are easily the biggest spectacles I've seen in a game probably ever, the sheer size and ridiculous nature of these scratch an itch like no game has for me since Asura's Wrath, and that's already one of my favorite games. The fact that even the worst of these bosses is still well above average is Jaw dropping and I'm so hyped to play it.
Damn man u got to get this!!! Wish u woukdve seen it for yourself tho instead of here on UA-cam but itll still be badass either way!!
it really shows this game's insane quality that everyone has a different ranking.
One thing that could’ve made sense if they had more time for Odin would to have Ultima to manifest Odin himself, would’ve been a slightly greater showing of how the Eikon’s and especially barnabas were viewed as servants to him, even in death, especially since we don’t actually have any reason as to why Ultima can use Eikonic abilities other than the reasoning that he is their creator and that another reason would be bcs we know that the Eikon’s should exist somewhere as well, since even after Clive absorbs them, they still remain in their dominants
desperately waiting for the PC release of this masterpiece! Titan lost certainly was the eikon that snapped my attention to this game, but I do agree that ranking them is a real ordeal when they're alll such high quality
almost every fight could be someone's favorite, and in your incredible video style, you so perfectly capture why that is
I loved the video, always cool to see another fan of FFXVI, and I think the ranking is really quite solid. The Leviathan fight goes *Insanely hard*, a wonderful final Eikon battle for the game
Great video, you should do a ranking of all bosses including the smaller ones!
I think Typhon has one of the best boss fight themes in the game.
Leviathan is such a pain in the ass. Amazing music though.
The bossfights are godlike, both metaphorically and literally. First there's Clive kicking ass against the other Dominants and Big Bad Ultima, then we get to breathtaking kaiju fights between the Eikons. I agree with ya, we should've had an Ifrit-Odin 1v1, but it makes sense for the phase to be QTE-only(the emotional story and parallels of Clive and Barnabas). I'm still pissed we didn't get to play as Shiva dueling Titan; could do good as DLC alongside Jill being playable(including Joshua more often, and Cid, and Dion), which is a must. I'm not the only one who thinks so. Also, Titan Lost's theme slaps. We just get a DMC-esque track whilst fighting a fucking mountain(sure, Hugo did control a giant after all, but his lust for the Mothercrystal lead to this amount of corruption). These boss fights wouldn't be enough to blow us away without the Kingdom Hearts team anx Platinum Games' involvement during production. And we can thank them for giving Yoshi-P and his league of talent an extra boost so FFXVI could have some of the best boss fights in the entire series. They deserve the same credit.
I absolutely loved playing this game last year. I did 2 full playthroughs last year, and after I've finished rebirth, I fully intend to go back and play it again for a 3rd time, especially now that DLC is out, my top 3 bosses are
1. Bahamut
2. Titan
3. Ultima
I also loved how each eikon boss got more and more over the top with DBZ esqe fights
I still say Donald Duck taught Bahamut Zetaflare, change my mind.
This is canon now
I thought this vid would be a ranking of the Eikon skills. A boss list is good too. My favorite is Omega. The High Maneuver attack was a shock to my system, and the fact it teleports you to cyberspace is cool.
Really good ranking? My favorite will be bahamut for the epic setpiece or odin/barnabas for the increíble duel, that fight deserves More recognition alongside the others.( Also music in both is top tier)
Thanks for this nice video.
My list is:
1. Ultima (Clive's hero/friendship moment)
2. Typhon (First hype moment with Ifrit gameplay)
3. Ifrit (Emotional damage)
4. Bahamut (Fight together with Joshua)
5. Titan (Holy shit why i'm fighting a mountain)
6. Leviathan (Too hard so it was not so funny for me...)
7. Odin (Odin is my favorite Villan ever, my liege)
8. Omega (Great fight but I understand what you mean with we have no connection to this Eikon)
9. Garuda (Garuda has such a great design, bad ass Clive transformation moment)
10. Eikon of Fire (Great opening fight, I liked the Phoenix combat also in the Bahamut fight)
All the boss fights were amazing, without exception.
Do you have a Let´s play or stream of your FF16 playthrough?
I dont do lets plays but I did talk about the game in last years Game of the year list, which you can find in the same Countdowns and Rankings playlist as this video!
Eikon is pronounced the same as the word "icon"
I think she made the same mistake as I did by playing in subtitled japanese
so we never heard it pronounced in english
Ee-con would be a clever name for a square enix convention 😅
@@angeldoyle859 I opted to play ff16 in English since the voice acting was exceptional, and I found the setting of the game suited it better. Plus the game did not have lip syncing for the Japanese unlike past games for some reason. Cuz when I played 10, 15 and the 7R games I played them in Japanese as I preferred it for those
16 is 100% better in japanese IMO, I really dont like Clive and ESPECIALLY Joshua's english VAs. they do a good job but I vastly prefer the japanese voice actors
Out the entire video saying Ben Starr did a bad job is crazy@@AstralKat
Ultima would have to be my 2nd favourite final boss ever, my 1st place is still held by Chakravartin from Asura's Wrath
I think there was some recency bias involved in that statement when I said it in the video, he's definitely below The Universe from Everhood or Maruki from P5R for me personally, probably hanging around 3rd or 4th now that I've had more time to think on it
I would have put Typhon above Odin honestly based on the simple fact that Typhon offered to full out eikon battle. Odin was just disappointing all around.
Though Leviathan might have some recency bias here in this list, its definitely a great boss.
I would've put him in 4th or 3rd personally.
Bahamut for me is absolutely the best of all, closely followed by titan lost.
Regardless, good list!
Yea there prolly is some recency bias here given I recorded all the others back in like, January LOL, but I cant deny it still adds to that notion that FFXVI has the best boss roster of any game I've ever played
Honestly this made me believe that zettaflare is that powerful. An atleast bahamut did die after using it.
Game is AWSOME
Yeah, the Odin Eikon 'fight' was a big letdown. The 1v1 duels were cool, but I really wanted the Eikon fight. :c
Odin has to be my favourite Eikon since the get-go with the Bahamut vs Odin scene, so not getting a full eikon vs eikon fight was *meeeh*.
The DLC bosses seem to suffer a good bit of imput timing. I've noticed several times with Omega and Leviathan and some of the minibosses that dodges arn't counted (aka the hit lands right before the animation) or happen slightly after you hit the button. I'm not sure how they changed this or if this was a change done for the sake of making Levithan's eikonic shift a must-have for dodging.
Leviathan third phase is frustrating af which is why this fight kinda fell off
I'm gonna leave my own list before watching and come back to see how it compares.
1. Bahamut
2. Leviathan
3. Titan
4. Spoiler
5. Shiva
6. Odin
7. Ramuh
8. Phoenix
9. Garuda
Oh wait lmao I thought this was a tier list ranking there effectiveness in combat whoops.
you're right that bahamut and leviathan are the 2 best tho in terms of combat lmao
Finally a game has dethroned DMC5 as my favorite
