I just comb 🪮 my locs after having for 20 months I normally brush but I comb the loose roots and it helped as I am semi freeforming my locs

I have thinning ends, would you recommend adding hair and then using the hook to combine hair?

No....don't add hair. This might result to excessive weight. Just crotchet the ends with the hook to stop the locs from disentangling
