    Priest Holmes probably has the best 3 year stretch of any running back ever but unfortunately had a short prime.

    As a long time Chiefs fan I can tell you Priest was great, epic for a 3-4 year stretch but not the best RB ever. He was undrafted out of college and started with the Baltimore Ravens then was replaced there and came to Kansas City where he went on his epic run. He was a classic one cut and go runner. As far as Chiefs RB's he is up there with Jamaal Charles and Marcus Allen as best to play for the team.

    Did not have a Priest Holmes reaction on my bingo card for today but as a Texas fan, I really enjoyed watching it. Priest is an even better human off the field, just a solid all-around dude. Both Priest Holmes and Jamaal Charles came out of Texas to star with the Chiefs. You guys should each consider picking a college team to get behind for the upcoming season. 🤘

    Marshall Faulk was one of the early backs that caught a significant number of passes in the NFL A duel threat. Priest Holmes is in that mold.
    Check out the other Cief's great RB Jamaal Charles. (There are a few more, but Charles was the one to watch, outside of Holmes).
    RBs today generally don't last past 30, and start declining around 27-ish.

      Priest Holmes Marshal Faulk and Warrick Dunn where in the mold of Barry Sanders Marshal Being the best of the three but i would say the most spectacular tape that shows the most insane runs would be Warrick Dunn I often wonder what his career would of been with better offensive Coordinator

    • @bookman7409
      @bookman7409 2 місяці тому

      This! I think a case could be made that he was on the Barry Sanders tier, though the whats that made Jamaal special were quite different. Often overlooked due to the state of the team he helped carry, where we always fell just short, because reasons. But during his time in KC, I bet he was the best RB in the league, sort of a Travis Kelce at his position, by just getting it done.
      Or was that too over-the-top? ;)

    Priest was a beast in HS at San Antonio Marshall HS. He got them to the state championship where they lost to Odessa Permian. He had injury issues at Texas but his last game was a memorable game against NC in the Sun Bowl. He started his career as a back up in Baltimore and came to KC when Dick Vermiel became the coach. His 4 year stretch was as good as I have seen.

    If you want to watch the best video on Priest Holmes that explains why he was so incredible, channel NFL Throwback - "The RB No One Wanted Who Dominated the League." Also have an incredible videon on Dante Hall - "That Time Dante Hall Dazzeled the NFL as the Human Joystick." One of the top 3 kick returners all time with, by far, the most exciting returns on film. Ring of Honor jersey numbers are retired by the team. It is a huge honor.

    Priest Holmes started his career on the Baltimore Ravens, but he was basically replaced by Jamal Lewis there. He moved onto the Chiefs where he had his breakout from 2001 to 2003. That KC offensive line with Willie Roaf and Brian Waters plus all-whatever fullback Tony Richardson was brilliant. Injuries started mounting in 2004 and 2005. Even when Priest was done, they replaced him with Larry "The Doberman" Johnson and he had a couple of very productive seasons.

    He actually started out with the Baltimore Ravens and was released and KC picked him up and that’s when his career took off (also at the time KC had the best Offensive line in the league all of them had been named all pro at least twice in their careers) He also had in my opinion the greatest Tight End in Tony Gonzalez blocking for him as well (check him out as well he only missed 2 games his entire 17 year career which is insane at that position)

  • @THEQuantumBacon
    @THEQuantumBacon 2 місяці тому +1

    Priest was insanely good, and even more impressive for being undrafted.
    However, he was also the beneficiary of one of the best offensive lines ever assembled and played on offenses that, though not as prolific as the current Mahomes era Chiefs, were the best in the NFL of their era (though they also had historically terrible defenses).
    Because of that, and the sheer explosiveness and versatility, Jamaal Charles is the best Chiefs running back ever to play, and well worth a watch. Sadly, Jamaal played on mostly terrible Chiefs teams where he was literally the only weapon - and he still could not be stopped.
    Sadly, Jamaal ended up in his last year with the hated Denver Broncos, but will go down as a Chiefs legend (as does Priest).
    Honestly, if Jamaal could have played with Mahomes and Kelce, they’d literally be unstoppable. I wish he could have been healthy a few more years and had a little crossover with this team!

    Priest got unlucky and had to play second fiddle to Ricky Williams at Texas. In the first Big XII championship game, Nebraska shut down Ricky but Priest had a MONSTER game. KC took a chance on him after the Ravens dropped him and he gave them 3-4 great seasons (rushing leader one of those and then the 27 touchdowns in a year).
