Im autistic and train Shotokan Karate for fun. I find these videos very helpful, especially with the harder katas like this one. Thankyou so much for these videos, theyre a huge help.
I watch loads of karate videos online but for the best most well explained and demonstrated techniques, your videos are the best there is on youtube. Thank you Sensei!
After moving home thus switching from Shito-Ryu to Shotokan there are similarities but this last part has eluded me (trying to stay ahead of the curve). Nicely explaind and very helpful, thank you
I have browsed through dozens of videos, and I can confidently say that you’re presenting the most valuable educational material. I’ll never be thankful enough. Thank you very much Sensei. Best regards from Algeria.
At 2:07 the way I learned it was that the right hand comes through the middle more, in sync with the knee, and is more of a straight uppercut that where both the knee and the right hand strike are focusing your momentum and therefore increasing your power.
Thank you very much. My school (Do Jo) closed a number of years ago, and I recently decided to renew my studies and practice. Your videos and commentaries are priceless!!!!!
Im having a test to brown belt in a few weeks, and this and all of your videos helping me so much at a period when my sensei cant teach katad through zoom
the fine footwork and intimate details are important but what is more important is treating this kata as a self contained self defence system, a series of techniques stored in a KATA so that they can be practiced and remembered. I explain the Bunkai as I show the movements, e.g the move where one turns away and strikes up to an upper cut.. a shoulder throw. and the jump would be landing on them and placing them in a lock/pin. I then take them aside and get them to do a shoulder throw and a pin on a partner.. they can then practice the imaginary movements at home and that can only be good!!
@Sephirothj666: I agree with the other poster. Your remarks are disrespectful. Also you are incorrect. In the SKIF system your front leg is supposed to move to the side when you switch from zenkutsu dachi to kokutsu dachi. It's stated clearly in the official syllabus.
I have found your tutorials very useful over the years, I am currently attempting to learn the Heian Kata Ura; I think myself and others would find it useful too if you could go through Heian Yondan and Godan Ura.
As a 1st kyu, it pains me how much I have forgotten with these katas! I stopped training over 3 years ago, and am preparing to go back within the next couple of weeks!!
kata vary so much between styles, but that's what makes it so awesome :) I do shukokai karate, and godan has a few different stances and movements, etc. I'm going to have to switch styles when I go to university, so it's going to be confusing, but very fun!
Whenever I need to learn a kata I come to you. You have some great videos, but in the future please try and move the camera as you do it so we can see all the moves.
Sensei is an excellent tutor. Hs explanations are crystal clear. Though I am doing Shorin Ryu I try to practice all his kata demos back at home. Meantime it would be interesting to know his name and his nationality. Does any one know ? Please Reply.
+João Gabriel thanks I have this for my grading tommorow I can't sleep have to memorize and my sensie says I'm not as good as she wanted ANY TIPES PLEASE
thanks joao but I sould have listended to your advice before I graded because I'm writing this juist hours after my grading I passed alright but my scores were terrible my kata and basics got a C which sucked though I got a B in kumita ill take your advice for the next grading I have which is before chritmas
This channel is great! There's another one where he just does it too fast for me and with a really bad camera so this one is 10000000000000000000000000000% better
Football Bloggers well yea this video was made in 2010 and that was made in 2006. Also the other one shows it slowly as well, I honestly prefer both channels.
Killian Gibbons I prefer chocolate and ice cream. And I won't be able to choose one if u asked me too. I use the older version just to help me remember the kata and this one to help me actually learn it.
Couple yrs still use this video, one of best commentaries out there, Thanks again Sensei.
