Diane Wolkstein: The Master Thief (1994)

On a pleasant September evening in 1994, Diane Wolkstein and Shlomo Carlebach shared Hasidic stories with a receptive audience at the American Museum of Natural History, in a program called "Celebrating Our Mistakes." From that evening, and with Diane's permission, we offer you the story of "The Master Thief" (also known as "The Seer of Lublin's Shirt"). It is one of my personal favorites, especially when 'the story within the story' takes over.
