I remember I was asked last minute to review an alternative comedy night for a local magazine, there were various funny people on the bill but the "headliner" was this guy called Joz Norris trialling a new character called Mr Fruit Salad. At the time I honestly didn't know what to think as this overwhelming chaotic presence enveloped the crowd. I laughed so much my sides hurt as he just never stopped and I knew that this was something to pay attention to. This would eventually go on to form this show. I caught it in full at the Edinburgh Fringe that year and when it went on tour and I thought it was brilliant. Something about it really resonated with me; don't know if it was the subjects he covered; mental health, creativity, grief. Or that it was just random as heck and really funny, either way I think it's quite special. As he says this show isn't for everyone but it's most definitely for me. Thank you Joz for doing it and I'm glad I got to see it again.
Saw Mr. Fruit Salad years ago upstairs in the library at Crystal Palace. Wasn't sure if I'd hallucinated or dreamt it, but I hadn't laughed so much in ages. If it really happened. Then here he was again, an email from GFS, could it be true? So pleased to have been reunited Mr. F. S. in Hackney. Really excellent, really funny.
This is absolutely sensational. I remember seeing it at Edinburgh fringe a few years ago and it is still the most I've ever laughed at anything. Extremely moving too. So great to be able to watch it again! p.s. annoying that the fella in the front row was so disparaging about your (very sanitary) beard
Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm so glad you enjoyed the show, then and today. And yeah, I guess up close the beard must look more rank than I realised maybe.
What a co-incidence! The Chic song I had in mind was in fact Freak Out. Spooky
