Honestly, I'm almost 29 years old, and I'm a teacher at high school. I'm always feeling a little bit embarrassed for enjoying things out of "teenage culture", like Olivia Rodrigo, Harry Styles, or teenage books/films, etc. These things tend to be mocked by my peers. However, when I realize that a well-read, intelligent young man like Jack enjoys those things too and that he doesn't feel like these are trivial forms of art, I just feel much better and so much more understood. People tend to think that everything that comes from the younger generation is more superficial or just not as "high-class". I believe my students appreciate that I see artistic value in those things, and I can connect to them so much more by caring for their interests.
Honestly, I've felt the same way. Though I'm not in my 20s yet, I AM about to go start college in a few months. Literally all my peers have "mature" tastes now, and they don't follow teen-culture like we all did just a couple years ago. Sometimes I get pretty insecure about the fact that I still hadn't grown out of liking stereotypical teen stuff (like Cartoons and Kpop), not to mention that I'm a guy too so most people tend to be more judgemental towards me for liking childish things :/ I'm literally the only senior in my school who's a fan of Olivia Rodrigo, and when I found out about it I just felt so old like damn most of them didn't even know who she was💀 But lately I'm trying to look at it in a more mature/logical perspective. If I still won't grow out of liking teen stuff like the rest of my peers, then so what? I enjoy what I enjoy, and there's nothing I need to be ashamed of. And you shouldn't be ashamed either. It's not trivial, and if it makes us happy then why should we be concerned about what our peers like anyways, right? Art, no matter what form, is for *all* ages (unless it's explicit/inappropriate but you get what I mean)
You are in your twenties, you are SO young, enjoy what you like, enjoy your life!!!! I would say that you can like whatever it is that you like at any age, but in your case it's also completely understandable, I honestly think that the "mainstream" nowadays is targeted not only to teenagers but also to young adults in their 20s, and it's all over social media, it's inevitable to see the content of these type of artists and eventually look them up and enjoy them. It's so normal. You do you!
The Marvel’s spine looks like that because Brian’s other two books also have half of a face on them. So when they are on a book shelf together its very striking. I highly recommend reading The Invention of Hugo Cabaret and Wonder Struck if you loved The Marvels.
hi, as an autistic person, i just wanted to comment on 'the curious incident of the dog in the night time'- you do mention that the experience in that book is not true of every autistic person, however, i'd say that the group of people it would apply to would be very, very limited. the author himself basically admitted to having done no reserach in a blog post of his (which i can link, if you'd like to read.), to which i would add that the author didn't write the main character with any specific neurodivergency in mind. doesn't even like the main character being referred to as autistic. and so i wouldn't call the book good representation in the slightest. it's not about autism. as for my personal opinion, i didn't like it at all either, it was almost insulting at times. im glad you could find something in the book you enjoyed, though! id just recommend not thinking it's anything near good autistic representation

Your words Jack Edwards that you spoke as "Metaphors can be used to capture your feelings and sentiments without opening the wounds all over again" got me thinking " Does Jack ever realise how sometimes, in the middle or corner of his utterance somewhere, one that he perhaps, barely considers noticing, let alone a reflection on it, he makes me realise that beauty can still be there even when you're not having anything so grand as such to look at?"
The thing with Curious Incident is that it only represents one experience of autism, which also happens to be one of the only experiences of autism that is present across all media. I read the book a few years ago and really enjoyed it as I related to aspects of Christopher's character, but in retrospect it doesn't really encompass the majority of autistic people's experience. This is no hate to anyone who enjoyed the book as it can be very difficult to find fiction books about autism. M is For Autism is a great example tho!

the curious incident only represents a tiny minority of autistic people. Christopher is a very stereotypical depiction of a white autistic boy which is vastly different to the experience of BIPOC autistic people, and autistic people who aren’t assigned male at birth. it’s a great introduction to the experience of autistic people, but i would encourage anyone who has read the curious incident to expand their horizons a little and learn about a wider range of autistic experiences. (this is coming from a trans POC autistic)
I actually did relate a tiny bit to Christopher despite being poc and afab, (and also having adhd, not autism) -it’s just that they made everyone around him so callous and unlikeable, and acted like it was somehow his fault. like they pushed him to the extreme of running away cause they didn’t listen to him, or try to understand his perspective or offer him even the amount of respect infants get, and then the author acts like it’s because he doesn’t understand people or whatever. Like no, these people are being irresponsible parental figures.
Rudy Francisco's spoken word poetry is available on UA-cam and is ABSOLUTELY incredible. He has been one of my favorite poets for years and I love seeing him receive so much praise that he absolutely deserves!!

I like how he thought of the premiere timing with other countries in mind too.
the absence of the classic jack edwards intro is hard but the quality of these videos never fails to disappoint - my compliments to the chef 😌
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE
Rudy Francisco's spoken word poetry is available on UA-cam and is ABSOLUTELY incredible. He has been one of my favorite poets for years and I love seeing him receive so much praise that he absolutely deserves!!
You should try reading the books Miley Cyrus recommends! I am genuinely curious about one of them that she constantly mentions (The untethered soul by Michael Alan Singer).
I love Rudy’s poetry, his spoken word is amazing as well!
i'm pretty much obsessed with her atm and i'm afraid that this video is gonna make me even more obsessed oops
Rudy Francisco is an amazing poet! I’ve always loved his slam poetry, can’t wait to buy his book now!
The amount of Olivia Rodrigo song references in this video is astronomical
jack pls make a video reading only brazilian books for a week!! brazilian literature is amazing and very rich i swear you're gonna love it 🥺🥺
If Jack likes her taste in books I'm buying all of them
i literally just gasped at the gross contrast of that Marvels book cover and spine omg ??? and i had just been imagining it'd be a nice blue addition to your rainbow bookshelf :(
I just had my fourth exam 😭 and now I have to wait 11 hours until I can watch this... GOD ITS BRUTAL OUT HERE
Jack, you are so wholesome. I love all your puns and references and your videos are such a source of comfort for me. Lots of love to you
not an Olivia stan but since it's JACK, I'm gonna go ahead and watch it.
Hey I would love to see him reading Rory Gilmore’s books because I’ve always looked up to her throughout the show & admired her love for reading! 🥰
So you’re saying graphic novels are not necessarily something you…graphitate towards?
Rudy Francisco is my favourite poet!! His other poetry collection called I’ll fly away is just as good! Revolves around similar concepts this one does, and just as many metaphors
ofc she has immaculate taste, she's perfect ✋🏻😩
Omg I ABSOLUTELY love his references to the celebrity every time. That gives him some sort of a charm that I can't even explain.
Day five tryna get jack to read these books
Book recommendations(favorites since childhood):
Caging skies by Christine Leunens
Number the stars by Lois Lowry
Frankenstein in Baghdad
Sophias war by Avi
Stepping on the cracks by Mary downing Hahn
Loving vs. Virginia
Would love if you read them Jack
Jack really makes people discuss their povs in the comment section which is so amazing and rare. It feels like this isnt just a youtube channel but its a community of readers. I feel like I belong on this channel!
i love olivia so much I can't wait to read the stuff she's recommended
she’s also recommended the perks of being a wallflower!!
Jack is RODRIGO-ing to be a stan.
And I'm here for it.
Thanks for using my post Jack! Super enjoyed this video, you’re as wonderful as always 💛
I got so excited I didn’t even know it was a premiere
can we appreciate jack connecting the songs of sour with the video? because i love it
Olivia rodriguo is queen and Jack making a video on her book recommendation.. Just obsessed.. What you need more 😚
Helium is so good! Rudy's live readings of his poems are incredible and worth a watch. Olivia has good taste, I started listening to her music after this video lol.
I’ve been searching for a comment that mentioned Rudy!! His my favourite poet :) I love watching is live readings! if you haven’t already, you should check out his other poetry collection “I’ll fly away”
i’m not a huge fan of olivia rodrigo’s music but honestly i’ll watch the video just for jack edwards
Retweet!!!
@Vijetha YC not everyone has the same music taste x
Same!!!
@Vijetha YC she has an amazing personality and seems super sweet but her music overall isn’t my taste. i do enjoy her song deja vu though ☺️
@@happyjellycatsquid fucking chill bro. it’s ok that you dont like it. it’s not a stupid question to ask someone why they dont like a particular sound in music. you dont have to mock the artist who is massive even if you like it or not, plus she’s only starting out and her album is the only album in history to have its all tracks in hot 100 for three weeks now. clearly there are people who like it.
omg thank you so much for linking my video on the description!!! It truly means a lot!! 💗💗
This is gonna be amazingg, can't wait!!
I literally just read Night Sky With Exit Wounds bc of your last video and now imma get Helium for sure as well. I’m just incredibly grateful for these videos ‘cause they open up my perspective about life
You should try Anya Taylor Joy book recommendations, she has a whole story highlight ab books
I've been watching Jack for a while now and that I'm in love with his pronunciation and voice, and the way he talks 😍
I really wanna see a look into Jack’s wardrobe to know where he gets all his shirts
i completely agree with the curious incident of the dog in the night-time being one of the best books of all time. it is absolutely INCREDIBLE and completely changes what you think the novel is gonna be like. incredible!!
The books that “The Rock” recommends!
LITERALLY. need her beats for my heart to function. *chef kiss*🤌🤌 PERIODT
Just realized Jack's birthday is one day after mine
Holy crap that means my birthday then vijetha's birthday the erika duarte's and the jack's birthday
Anyone here after getting obsessed with her album - SOUR
Me it's literally so good
No
Also no
Ehhhh i like a few-brutual, jealousy, deja vu. Its not my favorite and I don't listen all the time but there's some good songs
I wouldn't say obsessed. But I liked it, overall. I thought it was a good debut and I see a lot of potential. The first half was great, The second half gets a bit boring and runs out of ideas a bit, but still, I liked it.
