You're spot on about the Diawa sealine and Saltist reels. You know exactly what you're talking about, not just giving out misinformation. The sealine has 3 ball bearing, composite reel housing, lighter spool and a 6:1 gear ratio... The Saltist however has 6 ball bearing, full aluminium housing, 4.9:1 gear ratio, heavier spool and has more torque. Thanks for giving out 'reel' information!
If you lay the leader line on the shaft of the hook in a big loop(opposite directions) and wrap one end over the other you can pull the other end thru to form the snell. Different uses, snelling a hook, egg loop, steelhead and salmon fishermen use that a lot. You don't need the straw. Thanks for another informative and entertaining video.
Hi Dave - This is Drew from the video. Thanks for being super friendly and letting me hang out. I have learned a ton from your videos and appreciate it.
Thanks for the great video. And thanks for putting the fish back. The information that you pass along is always helpfull and I enjoy watching and learning from you. I know you are busy with other things in your life, but keep these videos coming. We all enjoy them. Thank you for sharing and taking us along on your fishing adventures.
A few weeks ago I had some live and cut sunfish out in the Des Moines river and was one rod holder short so I had a small piece of cut bait on a Catfish Dave rod holder (a rock) and when the line started peeling off told my friend "watch this" and did the Catfish Dave Hookset for the first time ever (only sideways because there was brush right behind me) and it turned out to be my biggest flathead so far (45" long x 26.5" around)... Thanks for the tips, sir. I love your videos and I've learned a lot from them.
Love your videos, so do my kids. They love to catfish, but they mainly fiah with livers. Bait is horribly elusive.....desperate need of skipjack....only half a skipjack tail left in freezer. Any suggestions?
@@catfishdave8192 Thanks, thats usually the case. Got 1 skipjack saturday evening, which got my 8 yr old her biggest flathead 15.3lbs! Love the videos and hopefully run into you, i fish alot of the same public parks. Thanks for commenting back!
i havent tried real hard but got maybe 4 or 5 skipjacks all summer..been relying on frozen..if we dont get anymore 90s skips should start getting more active by the weekend..you didn't hear this from me but I usually get skips first in melton hill lake until things heat up in ft loudoun in the later fall..check carbide park, hickory creek and also by the dam on the lake side..there is always a couple below ft loudoun dam this time of year but again getting skips is way harder than it used to be
@@catfishdave8192 Found Them!!!!! Bottom bouncing foley spoons very deep in current. They r on large size though, gotta cut em in half to get in gallon freezer bags. Gonna stock up this weekend!
Hey Dave, how do you feel about the ugly stik surf rods? I'm looking at getting into using surf rods and conventional reels for catfish. I'm looking at getting a cheaper rod that still has some back bone, just to get started and see if it's for me. I've also got my eye on getting either a Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 6500c3 or the 7000c3, if you could give some insight on reel choice it would be much appreciated! Tight lines Catfish Dave!
Some good fish! Great Video, keep up the good work. This reminds me, I need to get back out and wet my lines. Been busy myself and haven't been able to go for about 2 weeks.
Nice going Dave! Love them Big Cat circles! Haven't lost a fish since I started using them. I'm checking out some another hooks that look interesting from Hooks Terminal Tackle. They're a family owned outfit from up your way in Mosheim Tenn. The Mad Catter duel action hybrid circles and the Reaper circle both in 10/0. Check them out sometime when you got nothing else to do. Best of luck to ya Dave!
What ya doing with your bank rods?? Are ya going ta bank fish anymore?? I've been catching for a long time but say I cought any fish your sizes. I still In Joy Love your videos I've watched all several times. Had ta sell my boat lost both legs below knees and wife said its got ta go. So what shes says most times we husbands do. Enough from me. Keep videos coming. 🇺🇸🦅
Hey Dave. I know I'm doubling up in the comments. But I have a question. Have you tried Daiichi circle hooks? If not, I would like send you a pack if you have a PO box. I love them! They slam right through Gar Jaws. They say "The world's sharpest hooks". I have to agree! 95% hook set ratio for me on multiple species. They are great! I drove over an hour just to get more at Bass pro shop.
it really depends on the size and species of cats you are getting..right now in fall I'm using gamakatsu big cat cat cirlcles..I wouldn't be the right one to recomend hooks for gar
If that is where I think it is, thats a pretty shallow and rocky area you're casting into, lots of rocks and logs and other snags in like 10 feet of water in a little cove kinda near the boat ramp. Pulled up a nice flathead on live bluegill not far from where you are, around the same time you filmed this...lost him as I was pulling him in. Then he bit my crappie rod with 4lb fluoro on it...LOST HIM AGAIN. Keep up the great videos!
I usually can't park close to where I fish I've found a Head lamp very handy presently using a GEAR OZ : Captor X light from Amazon so far so good best I've used so far
probably may and november are my favorite months..blue cats will bite with ice on the water..never seen it too cold for them. flatheads will shut down if it gets cold enough
Bout time for the big blues to start turning on and the Flatheads too, they’ll start gorging probably next month before the water temps drop below 55 degrees, after that the Flatheads will hole up! That’s alright though them blues ( and big blues too) will bite all fall and winter, right?? Good stuff Dave!!
I would love too see your thumb ! And if you got too thumb your reel when casting don't you cheat yourself of the distance you trying too achieve ????? Why invite Backlash ????

Why do you run back to set hook?
getting all the bow and slack out of the line when I've got 80 yards out
Great catch .the invitation still stands to come and fish with me at Pickwick dam in Hardin county.
Would you go through you gear for me please. Im just now getting into big fishing..
Please don’t use a palomer knot on braid lol. Use a double uni knot with 10-15 twists.
