Hey Nils, I think I got the press you ordered. I got one from Jens in Denmark about the start of covid that he said was a cancelled order. It's a nice little press for the money but yours looks a lot more powerful. Mine wouldn't be good for heavy duty work like you plan I think. Small dies, limited power, though he said it was 20 T. I'm doing small stuff like Damascus for knives. Very much learning. Thinking of trying an axe like yours though. Thanks for the videos
My log splitter is just to flimsy, so, I'm going to spend some time and money, buy a shorter cylinder, hoses, control valve, quick disconnects and steel, buil a bench top press, use the quick disconnects for changing pump and engine back and forth between the press and splitter.
Curious why did you place the press on the back side so that you have to reach over the tank and motor ?! And is there a name of this machine can't locate one on incompetent Google here in the US so far .

I am not a professional welder, but I will give advice (maybe you know this): if you need a strong beautiful weld, then clean the surface. You don’t have to take so long and hard to burning a welding electrode and the seam will turn out more beautiful. So yes, you make a 20 ton press, maybe you should grind the seams and weld them again? 20 tons isn't joke
1 year is passed and probably you have improved a lot to weld, but I still would like to tell you a few tips about stick welding. The stick you can use: 6013 is the most common, you can strike the arc easily and the weld is good at looking but not really really strong (you put the stick on negative pole) 7018 is less common if you are not a professional welder, really difficult to strike the arc even if the machine is set up correctly, quite ugly weld but really strong! (You put the stick on positive pole) In this video probably you used the 7018 stick or maybe if it was the 6013 you put it on positive pole Another tip: rise a little the amperage! It was too low
First off, I like that you repurposed an old piece of equipment... but I have to give you a welding tip... it's a moral imperative. To strike a consistent ark, drag the tip of the rod across the work piece like a match... and always drag your weld puddle. And not to worry on how your forge press will last, a good friend of mine is still using the one he converted over from an old Log Splitter about 20 years ago. As long as you keep it clean and topped off it will last 2 years longer than stone
Little welding tip - for 3/32” rod size start your amps at 75 and go up in 10 amp increments up to 90 amps. 1/8” rod size start at 90 amps. Again go up in 10 amp increments. If ur sticking ur rod every time u touch ur work, ur to cold. If ur throwing a lot of BB’s ur to hot. Don’t be afraid of the heat, the hotter u can run the better ur weld will be.
No worries, I would love to build stuff like what u made. I just lack the mechanical skills for it. Lol however I have been a pile welder in the U.S. for nearly 20 years, Welding is the one thing I’m good at.
@ No need to tap the stick on the metal, just smoothly slide on it, with preferably a "clean" stick (you can file the tip a little), and add more current. It should slide >>> weld in an instant.
Looks like it worked great! Nice job.
This is my next project once I complete my power hammer. Nice job!
what is the specification of the power pack?

How do I get in contact with Jens in Denmark? I would like to see his press

Nice video! You should do a video on forging axe drifts for new axe makers

Nice job, looks good. I hope it works well for you. Thank you
damn that thing has POWER. very nice! gz!!

And that's why it's called a stick-welder
Maybe increase the current on your welder, could be too low.
Mark Smallman maybe he’s using low hydrogen rods and has no HF starter.

Nice forge, did you ever weld before this job?
Great score!!!!
Do you mind telling the name of the Danish person who you said made them. I'm a Young blacksmith Dane myself, and looking for a press
Jens lorenzen ithink is his name!
Sweet!

Hmmm, now it is even easier to make Damascus
Kult!
Who's the danish person?

@ thanks, I'm in touch with him now!
would you happen to know a place to shop a belt grinder 2x72?

Stick welders give me nightmares
I hate them... and i suck at it so much.

@ Verkar vara svårtända ok 48.00.
I counted 43
Sweet !!
