    My mother grew up in Alton Il back in the 50 and 60’s and spoke fluent hill talk and learned us kids this talk. Thanks Mom.

    Makes me so homesick! I grew up in Hagerstown, MD, and although we didn't say all of these things, we say most of them! The cooking too is stuff my grandma and great-grandmother made. :)

    A heap is a lot ... I get that.
    My grandmother would say "some." "If you don't march, you're gonna be in some trouble."
    I believed her.

    My grandmother used to use this expression all the time. She was born in Scotland and raised in Canada. An interesting fact about my grandparents, they met performing in vaudeville in the twenties. I wish I had of got to know my grandmother better, there is so much I would of loved to learn from her.😊🇨🇦

    We use this one in Australia. Usually you say there's "heaps" of something if there's a lot of it

      @@elmerbefuddled2156 I have never been able to find out who Joe Hayes really was, if he's anybody at all. Maybe a bowdlerization of JeHosephat? My family was the third bunch of Europeans to arrive in our county. The only people to swear by Joe Hayes that I knew of were us and one of the other families.
