Now, why people say that it's dangerous... I don't know. It's an extremely bizarre online trend to badmouth BART. I think it's just a weird meme or people trying to dunk on SF while mistakenly thinking that BART is "SF's subway" (which of course is actually Muni Metro in the real world).

Airport surcharge. That's what funded the SFO extension in the first place. The same system was used to fund the OAK airport extension and it has a similar surcharge over the regular BART ticket.
