  • I was surprised to see how this actually works! I've always been curious as to how these worked. I bought a pallet of items at an auction and this was on it, so I figured this would be a good way to find out.

      the4armedmonk it isn't confetti ik it's a joke but I thought it was behind the prongs and I think it's only on the u.s. police models I might be wrong

    • @emptyangel

      all models have the confetti... it's so that if a criminal uses it to rob a store there'll be evidence of the discharge. each piece of confetti has the taser's serial number on it.
      The blast door colours are based on the range of the cartridge.

    That metal cylinder is pressurized CO2. The big silver wedge tube thing punctures through the front and lets the gas through it, shooting out the barbs.Lucky you didn't blow a finger off cutting through it.

      Hold down the skin around the barb and very quickly and forceully pull at a 90 degree angle trying to minimize the amount of time you pull on the skin.

    • @anyshitt
      @anyshitt 4 роки тому

      you get in your car quickly and close the door between you and the person you zapped. and then you drive away in a rapid but cautious fashion. the gsv might drag across the ground for a foot or two< but if the vic weigh's more than 90 Lb's, the barbs should have no problem just pulling out of the soft flesh,

    • @MikeTrieu
      @MikeTrieu Рік тому +1

      I'd imagine if you were trying to cause the least amount of damage to the flesh, you would try to put perpendicular pressure on the barb, away from hook at the end, so it clears the wound track and then gently pull it out so it doesn't catch. Or, you could do looks what most cops do and just rip it out YOLO-style.

    So the battery within the gun "taps" the canister and the compression within the canister propels the needle/barbs. So you didn't show how the electrocution charge is inflicted on the criminal. In other words the taser battery has to connect and stay connected to the bars somehow. After all it is from the Taser's battery that the "juice" is delivered to the criminal.

    They always said that they were little disks in there with a serial number that would come flying out to the police could identify whoever used the taser. Did you not see any of those?

    I don't think that perforated brass disc is a filter. It's more likely a gas flow restrictor to prevent over-pressurization of the cartridge and having it just blow up in your hand the moment the puncturing pin breaches the gas cylinder seal. They probably wanted a relatively controlled, sustained release of the propellant and that was a cheap method of doing so. You can think of it like the flow restrictors in a lot of shower heads these days. The water pressure in many houses are high enough to be somewhat dangerous, so flow restrictors can bring that pressure down to a reasonable level.

    • @exMuteKid
      @exMuteKid 11 місяців тому

      Wow you are really just pulling stuff outta nowhere huh. It’s a liquid nitrogen or CO2 cartridge meaning the pressure is dependent on ambient temperature and elevation. deltaT and deltaP. Just like in an airgun. Also a flow restrictor is literally just small gas port hole in most cases, the filter he was referring to was the black fabric and the perforated disc is the support for the filter so it doesn’t get damaged and works reliably when exposed to high pressure discharge. I’m not a taser expert but it seems like there most likely wouldn’t be a need for a flow restrictor since they design both the gas canister and the cartridge, so they most likely fill the canister with enough gas plus a little extra to prolong shelf life, and then they’d just put a little extra strength in the taser gun itself so that it doesn’t explode. Many BB guns are made of plastic that use CO2 cartridges and they don’t explode…
      If they can dose the amount of propellant to be just enough for a single shot when punctured then there’s no reason why the frame can’t be made of plastic with steel reinforcement when the gas port is just like those cheap CO2 BB guns do. Except the BB guns need a flow regulator because the entire cartridge isn’t meant to be dumped all at once like the taser is.

    Man, I thought you were going to touch on what I was wanting to understand!
    Ok, so that angled sharp pin obviously punctures the nitrogen canister. BUT HOW DOES IT DO THIS? How does it travel TOWARDS the canister, to puncture it?
    I heard that at the front of the plastic box, where the gate doors are, that little pin u see is a little primer that is activated by the same electrical "lightning" that travels through the wires, darts, and into the target person. Supposedly there will be an arc that travels between the tips of the two darts, and THAT ARC will hit or short or Im not sure if Im using the right word, but the PRIMER gets "shocked", ACTIVATED, and the energy shoots the sharp angled puncture thingie rearward and that in turn releases the nitrogen propellant for the darts to fly forward!
    CAN YOU PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS AND LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK?
    Best video by far, discussing how these things work!
    Thankyou

      My Pulse cartridge is constructed very similar to this one. My understanding after dissecting mine is that the small primer embedded in the cartridge explodes with sufficient force to drive that small spike into the gas cylinder where the expanding gas (nitrogen?) quickly floods the two barrels that house the barbs and foam rubber gas seals as well as a couple other channels that blow the plastic doors off the cartridge and spray that ID confetti everywhere.

      All the internal components are so minute and fiddly that I doubt even if you could 3D print your own that it would be much of a cost savings. You'd have to source your own NO2 micro gas cylinder, Litz wire, conductive barbs, various rubber gas seals, pressure regulator plate, etc. Still, it might be an interesting endeavor to power the cartridge with something like a .38 blank rather than NO2 to get more penetration power through thicker clothing.

      Stainless steel barb and a regular steel weight. I'm sure Axon carefully choose the specifications for those weights, the length of the barbs, and the force of the gas cylinder after much testing. For instance, I'm sure they could have gone with a more powerful propellant, but that might risk over-penetration of the barbs, causing them to be instantly lethal. Plus, I heard they originally went that route, but had to redesign it because otherwise it would have to be classed as a firearm and they wanted to stay as far away from that public perception as possible.
