What got them was how cautious they were. So many times they could have killed then but they turned tail to not die. Dreams knowledge of the game and ability to improvise also helped him win.
There were so many moments where I was just like "he's dead, that's it, there's no way.", and every manhunt video I think that at some point but I never truly believed it because he usually finds a way to bring it back. This time I actually believed it 100% on more than a few occasions. Never underestimate Dream.

In my opinion, the best was when he faked them out and made them think his fire resistance was strength/regen. They were about to kill him, and he made them turn right around and even managed to kill George
Samuel Frost he did do it on purpose, you literally said because he knew someone would follow him. That was the only block they could’ve jumped on to get him fast and his quick thinking probably told him to break it. I would’ve thought that he would’ve waited until someone jumps on the block and then hit them off, but what he did was even more smart.
when he revealed the second stronghold i was so nervous because he was getting overconfident again and i thought he was gonna fall into the same loop and there was only 3 minutes left... it would’ve been an indisputable win if he didn’t say anything but props to him i was sweating the whole time
If he hadn't said anything they might have delayed for 30 seconds before going through their own portal to stop him, so he might have planned that so that they're halfway between the portals for the longest grace period for a dragon kill. That might not have been intended but it's just some food for thought
Honestly, I was screaming, because he was wasting so much time gloating after he opened the portal instead of going straight in. he wasted valuable time, and had he not done that, he would have had a bit more time to kill the ender dragon, instead of clutching a victory being so close to death.

okokokk i just wanted to say that it was super close, n he mentioned in his extra scenes vid later too that it was easier than he thought n most likely doable.
He unfortunately threw at the end by running into the dragon's pink breath thing which made him unable to kill the dragon before death

there is a way to resurrect the dragon using end crystals so even if the hunters killed the dragon, dream would still have another chance to win if he crafted end crystals
