Hi, to disengage the needle while winding turn the riffled wheel on the main axes counterclockwise. It will loose a bit so that the flywheel moves back and forth. If the needle is still engaged remove the hand crankcase. You will find a kind of clutch. Clean an oil! Now needle will not move while winding up bobbin thread 😊
I have a Model K and I can't find a Shuttle and Bobbins does anyone here know where to find one...mines in a table no bonnet cover, no handcrank , no drawer ...and yeah no bobbins or shuttle I've had it going on 3 years just collecting dust 😔
The bobbins and shuttles are hard to find. Mine came with a pfaff shuttle and a different brand of shuttle. Not quite sure what type it was suppose to go with but the bobbins I have work in both and both of my shuttles work with my machine. Good rule of thumb is to use only the bobbins that go with the shuttle. You may be able to buy a shuttle and bobbins for a Singer that was made close to the same time frame as your model. There tend to be more Singer shuttles and bobbins at more reasonable prices than that of pfaff's.
@@TheGardeningArtist Help From Australia, I speak Spanish and also have the same machine. lorena Vincentela says: Hello, I just received this same machine and I don't know how to use it yet. I followed all the steps to thread the machine but your instructions about the shuttle are not very clear to me and seems as I am doing something wrong. Do you have an email address to send you pictures and see if you can help me? ( I am from Argentina).
There is this big silver plated knob in the middle of the hand wheel. Just hold the hand wheel and turn the silver knob towards you and the needle bar would be disengaged. :-)
Also, there's two notches on the lever under the winder, if you pull it up and up again, you shouldn't need to hold the lever and it will automatically disengage.
Nikolay Vanev I will have to test it with upholstery thread and check the different lengths. I can tell you though I’m in love with this machine. I use it all the time now.
I bought this machine yesterday and looks identical to yours. I would love to see more about how you use yours but have already learnt so much from your video. I can’t thank you enough!
Jim Halpert yes their is a lever right in the front it’s moves up and down. And there are marks on that long gray metal piece that is rounded at the top that you can use as a guide to find the length you like. It’s the area just above the bobbin winder.
@@TheGardeningArtist Thank you so much! I just purchased an 11 from 1920 but it didn't come with any instructions so your video is very helpful. What size needles does it take?
Jim Halpert I’ve been using the types of needles from the store. I believe the needle goes in sided to side so the thread goes in from left to right rather than front to back.
I did find the area for disengaging the needle bar. It’s a area right next to the hand crank. I had a viewer let me know. I was so thankful. I love this machine so much.

Thanks for the tip! I'll be trying that out for sure! 😊
Thank you for making this video. Very helpful. I tried to find other videos you mentioned, but couldn't find them.
It’s been so long since I made this video. I will re watch it and see if I can find the links and post them in the description area.
I searched for the video I’d mentioned but it looks like it’s no longer up. I will be making some new videos that will be shorter and to the point.
@@TheGardeningArtist that would be fabulous! I just acquired a Pfaff K from around 1892, I believe. I hope to eventually get it in working order.
I just got one for free😅. I live in germany and Germans put out their trash. This was in the trash. Comes with the oak cabinet and beautiful door

Hi, just wondering if you know how to adjust the bobbin tension on this machine? Thanks
There's a screw on the bobbin case itself
Dayna answered this below. How did it go? 😊

Rodrigo Allegro I found it not to long after my video lol. I’ve been enjoying this machine so much.

You can turn the stainlrss steel cylinder next to the wheel, that decouples the wheel
Yes, and thank you for the tip.

Thank you for your kind message.
Can you tell me what's the longest stitch and can it handle thicker threads?

I was just thinking about this. I’d love to create more videos using this machine. I wish I had more bobbins for it.
Thank you so much! I was clueless how to thread my Gritzner, but I remembered it was taken over by Pfaff and it's the same machine model!
You are so welcome!😊
disengage the Clutch in the Balance Wheel ,if it doest not desengage is because is stuck or need to be grease i just repair mine PfaFF R 1800??
😊
Is there a way to change the stitch length on the machine?

Jim Halpert I found a manual for this type of machine if you message me at my Etsy store I could message you the manual. Etsy: Lilladolce
Do you know how to find out when your machine was made? I got a model K from my grandmother, thanks to your video I'll be able to use it now :)
There's a serial number list on the ismacs site. My great grandmothers machine is from late 1903
That is so awesome. I am so glad my video was able to help you. I am guessing mine is from 1890's to early 1900's.
Thanks so much for showing this machine.
You bet!
