what makes you so sure that even a human will pass the Turing test? If you're terrified of the day when a computer intentionally fails one, you have humans to thank for it, because we all do intentional things, and not always for the right reasons. If a computer fails one, it might have to do with survival, which wouldn't make sense at all, because when a computer can fail one, it's smart enough to make backups just in case something happens.

If “this sentence is false.” Is true it makes the false sentence untrue thereby making the fake sentence true. So quite literally, the sentence in understood to be undefined or the equivalent of 1 divided by 0.

The concept of "Nothing" represented by the number "0" (zero) did not exist in the beginning. The number "0" (zero) is a relatively recent human innovation in mathematics. But, there has always been "1" (one). The fact that one (1) exists and can generate the position/concept of "nothing" (0) shows that there first exists one (1). Thus, nothing (0) does not truly exist alone: One (1) must first exist that can generate the position/concept of nothing (0). Mathematically, Absolute nothing "could be" expressed as 0 to the power of 0, which can equal 1. "Nothing" IS "Something"; because, it comes from "Something". Moreover, since Nothing (perceived) is not Nothing (actual), then it is possible for Something to come from Nothing (actual). Because, Something (1) is inherently pre-existing within Nothing (actual), hence, 0 to the power of 0 can equal 1. Simply put, Something (1) exists before Nothing (0) can exist. In the beginning, there was Singularity (1).

Excellent video, I wasn't expecting this, but the way you went round all the definitions of singularity was really interesting. I really like y=1/x (geeky yes I know). It produces (if rotated around the x axis) a solid with a finite volume but an infinite surface area.

The sentence is neither, a sentence i neither true or false, a statement is either true or false.
when we hear "this sentence is false" we understand "this statement is false" which is wrong, it's not a statement, it's like saying " 53f6egu7h785758bB(*^NTN*^ " is a word... it just isn't.
So if you think it's a sentence it's neither true or false, it's like trying to understand if "tree" is true or false... it doesn't make sense.
If you think it's a statement, you're now just plain wrong because the definition of a mathematical statement is "A proposition we know *for sure* is *either* true or false" and... well we know for sure it's neither true nor false, therefore it's not a statement.

however the "give it a value" trick doesn't work with "this statement is false"... because it results in a paradox, and since it does it isn't a statement by the fact that you can't determine it's value.

I enjoyed the video, but @2:12 you say that mathematicians don't know what 1/0 is, but I don't really think this is the case. Mathematicians just choose not to define 1/0 because attempts to define it can lead to inconsistent results. We created division to begin with, it's not like we discovered division out in nature somewhere and we're trying to understand it better.

Well it doesnt seem logical to ask how many zeros are in 1. 0+0+0+0.... Will never budge from zero, so how can it be defined, there must be a proof in there, as even with infinite zeros you do not get any closer to 1. In essence it doesnt really make sense as a question. And also limits dont necessarily explain the real question.
I would say that that because limits always are 'approaching' what we really want is an infinitessimal. Not zero, to output infinity. If you reverse the equation you would find a reciprocal of infinity is an infinitessimal.

I have a hard time accepting infinities in physics... in math it is fine (it is the opposite of zero), but in the real world I am not so sure.
Black holes are in my opinion still stars whose Schwarzschild radius outgrew its physical radius, so black holes don't have infinite density after all; they're just denser neutron stars.
Moore's law won't work in the future, because we cannot go smaller than atoms, so we cannot have an infinite amount of transistors in a tiny specified area.
Same way goes for AI, we have been overestimating robotics and underestimating the biochemistry of our own brains for decades now.
We still don't have a robot butler that can fetch a proper hot cup of coffee, which old sci-fi movies had us believe we would have by now at this age.
Math is great, but if they start drawing the graph to infinity, it shouldn't be applied to the real world in my honest opinion; the real world has barriers and limits. :-/
the problem with saying just denser than neutron stars is that in a neutron star the density is maximal as all quantum positions are occupied thus in order to increase the density we have to overcome forces (like the strong force) that is crazy yet they happen in the case of overcoming all the fundamental forces by the simple effect of gravity the density of the material is infinite as there is nothing keeping it apart (to our knowledge) this is why we treat it a singularity.
The part about Moore's law is also interesting as t has already been falsified (we are not following it even on the current technological level) but the price of each transistor is decreasing and the overall computational power is increasing exponentially and we are approaching the computational capacity of a roach brain but in 10 years that can be the power of a human brain, and then what is next. we are overestimating the speed but not the direction. there is nothing stopping us from increasing the connected computational power of the machines we use even if not by the computation of a single chip but a mountain of chips working together the end result is the same once the machine intelligence working on improving itself jumps above the capacity of the human brain we are no longer in control thus the singularity is inevitable.

But we have a robot dog who can open a door handle and get out. (BostonDynamics). We have a computer that can use neural networks and all the learning it can do to beat the best chess player on the planet and the best GO player on the planet. Most of the things from the old Sci-Fi movies are indeed becoming reality as technology progresses. We're not there yet with the Butler maybe but somewhere in some lab, that research is happening and is not far from real world application. I took AI course at ASU recently and saw some of the work in progress in AI and Robotics :)

Lemuel Ogabang; because things get ridiculous, when something contains infinities. Have you heard of Hilbert's paradox? It is about a hotel with infinite rooms, which are all full. A new guest arrives and asks for a room and the hotel owner asks all the occupants to move one room over to make a room available for the new guest, which is possible because there are infinite rooms even if they are all full.
If the universe is infinite, then there is a planet out there, which is Mario World... I find that very VERY hard to accept, therefore I will always assume the universe is finite, because with infinities anything you can imagine is possible otherwise.

But it makes sense, when its false, that you always lie: because that doesnt mean that you always tell the truth, but sometimes you tell the truth and sometimes you lie as now. So its defined.

Something being "undefined" in math does _not_ mean "we don't know the answer" it means that there _isn't_ an answer _in the set we're working in._ For exactly, we can say that √(-1) is undefined over the set of real numbers because there is no real number that has the property that squaring it gives negative 1. However, if we instead work over the set of complex numbers, √(-1) is perfectly well defined and is usually denoted by "i." We say "defined" for a reason -- because we literally just defined a new mathematical object into existence. "i" is _defined_ as being √(-1), or, in other words, the number that, when squared, gives -1. Similarly, over the natural numbers, 0-5 is undefined, because the result isn't a natural number, but an integer. Yet, it's perfectly well defined over the integers or any superset of them.
Additionally, √(2) is undefined over the rational numbers, but perfectly well defined over the reals.
The reason that students don't usually hear the term "undefined" come up until someone asks about division by zero is that just extending the number is fairly easy and obviously useful when going from the naturals to the integers, then to the rationals, and then the reals and even the complex numbers have a lot of applications. It's not actually very difficult to do this to allow division by zero -- we basically just add infinity to the real numbers and specify a few simple axioms. That's called the extended real number line. -- it's just that it's not that very _useful_ to do so. It's more useful to add positive and negative infinity to the set of complex numbers -- that gives a number system referred to as the Reimann sphere (because, viewing it geometrically, it's a sphere), but this isn't someone that would be taught to students in pre algebra or algebra 1, which is usually when students are told that division by zero is undefined.

At first it's false because it states so. But in doing that it becomes true which in turn means that it is not accurate anymore because it states being false. This follows ad infinitum. It's truth-value thus becomes undefined.

p(F) ==> c : then by definition of contradiction:
p(F) p(T) : then by definition of thesis:
(p(F) ==> p(T)) is True, by definition of implication
Which means that "this sentence is false" is always true, either because it's truth value is True, (it's semantic meaning is not it's logical meaning, and as such they do not affect eachother), or because it is initially false, and the semantic and logical meanings create a logical contradiction that violates the law of identity p p, such that ad absurdum causes it to prove itself true, through evaluation of the truth table of p(F) ==> p(T)...

First, the word "undefined" isn't nearly as mysterious as you make it out to be. It literally means "not defined", that's all.
What is the circumference of 7? It's undefined, "circumference" is defined for geometric shapes, not for numbers.
What is the derivative of the set of natural numbers? It's undefined, "derivative" is defined for functions, not for sets of integers.
What is 1/0? It's undefined, division is defined for pairs of real numbers where the 2nd one is nonzero. For real numbers a and b!=0, a/b is defined as the unique real number c such that b*c=a. If b=0 then such a number c either does not exist or is not unique, thus you cannot define it this way.
Here we have a complication caused by the fact that in mathematics, we often use the same name to call different things. While ordinary division of real numbers is not defined for a 0 denominator, there are other structures with other definitions for division, such as the real projective line or the Riemann sphere - there, 1/0 is equal to unsigned infinity; it's quite elegant, but we give up a lot of what makes division what it is.
That in itself is a *great* answer that mathematicians came up with to what 1/0 is - based on actual understanding of the underlying concepts and the limits of their applicability.

There are different things in mathematics referred to as "singular", but the most important one is the concept of singularities in complex analysis, where it's both fundamental and well understood. There are different kinds of singularities such as removable singularities, poles (such as 1/z at z=0), essential singularities (such as exp(1/z) at z=0), branch points (such as sqrt(z) at z=0) and so on.
Mathematics has come a long way since ancient times. While open problems remain, there are some fundamental concepts that are now fully understood by any mathematician worth his salt. Singularities of a simple meromorphic function like 1/z belong firmly in the second category.
I believe the term "singularity" for both black holes and technological progress are based on the mathematical term. In black holes it refers to a point of mass discontinuity, and in technology it refers to hyperbolic, superexponential growth diverging to infinity, much like the growth of a function as we approach its pole.

"They couldn't come up with a good answer" equals "They don't know" Because for now. they don't. What is so wrong about that? Or do you believe that have it all figured it out already?
