They really are!! Brass locomotives has incredible details! Steam locomotive are pieces of art to me hahaha! Soon we will do a collection locomotive highlight video. Most likely in our next house! Happy Railroading!!!
Will, The steam locomotives are definitely works of art. My hobby is saltwater reef tanks but I love trains. I am planning my new hobby - steam locomotive’s. The plan is ho gauge of a collection of cool locomotives and tenders with some specific passenger, chemical and freight cars but as display’s only on sections of track like you have. I have an old 1950’s Lionel set inherited from my dad with the cool Lionel ZW O gauge transformer. I can sell my wife with this proposal but a running layout is not feasible due to space. The workmanship, designs, craftsmanship, engineering make these locomotives of the past true art. Take care
Very good video review of this brass Challenger. I appreciate both of your comments and expressions during the filming. So cute how it startled your wife at startup..I would have jumped out of my skin! Ha Ha
Thank you!! This locomotive is absolutely incredible!! Hahahah! Kathryn's (Lady Lionel) reaction was genuine and very funny!!! The slow mo idea came from her!!! This locomotive is very very LOUD!!! Happy Railroading!!!
AHHHH!! That's it!!! I couldn't put my ear on that! I'll be honest I don't have that VL locomotive. The only NYC locomotive we have is the VL 5344. Great ear!! Happy Railroading!!!
@@will2926 you're very welcome! That engine is definitely on the hit list for me. I'm eagerly awaiting Lionel to re-release it. Those aftermarket prices are nuts! Hahaha
If you can find it, I would get it! These challengers are absolutely fantastic!🚂 Call the Lionel Retail Store in Concord, NC I think they still have one!🦁🚂
Hey Will and Catherine (Katherine?). Great video and review of the Challenger. It was awesome how you went through all of the features front to back, and the sound set (bells, whistles, crew and tower talk). That looks like an amazing locomotive and I'm looking forward to seeing it run when you have it on your layout. Thanks again and keep up the great work!!
Thank you!! Kathryn (Lady Lionel) and I really can't wait for our next house!! We are already thinking on how we are going to build our layout! This locomotive was full of great features! Lionel did amazing work with the details and feature on this locomotive. Minus 1 feature this could have been a VL locomotive! Happy Railroading!!
I would like first to commend your wife for being a fan and supportive! I personally would not purchase the Locomotive I like the 3985 much more. However it is a beautiful engine like all of them are to me.
Absolutely!! She is the best and my one true firewoman!! So I would highly recommend this locomotive!! It's very different from the other challengers and is a very unique locomotive!! Steam locomotives are absolutely BEAUTIFUL!! Happy Railroading!!
Excellent review. I like that you review this as a couple. Always good to get two viewpoints. I appreciate the detail from unpacking to the start-up. The 3985, of course, represented the evolution from the earlier challenger featured in your review so not quite a like comparison. Anyway, keep it coming......
Thank you! This locomotive is absolutely incredible! I am very impressed with all of the details and sounds! The 3985 comparison was very interesting to see the differences in time. From a Lionel perspective you can see the different paint sprays and extra level Lionel is doing. Happy Railroading!!
Se we did, however, we recently just moved and had to take it down. In the future I'm going to post a video highlighting the move. Happy Railroading!!!!
We are still building our current layout in CO. I haven't been able to put out a layout update video. I have a few videos in the que and I'm trying to get as much on the layout done prior to filming. I'm also thinking on doing a "will2926 update" live video, what do you think!?
Its a lovely model, but really don't like this centre rail pick up system, its like going back to the post war old Hornby Double o 3 rail and should be 2 rail, in my view...also the wheel flanges are huge, really toy like, commentary is cheese, just keep it to the loco functions....
Whistle #3 is my personal favorite on these magnificent IronHorses from Lionel.
The Brass Hybrids were a triumph for Lionel. So happy they made this Challenger! Happy Railroading 🚂!
@@will2926 thank you.
Some locomotives and tenders are like a piece of art. Happy for you two on your growing collection.

Its and awesome model!! The level of detail Lionel put into this locomotive is so great!! Top 5 for sure!! Happy Railroading!!!!
To me this just shows how union pacific changed the look of the challengers during the steam era
Don't you have a layout?
